Well if you want to sing out, sing out

Well if you want to sing out, sing out

Mom giving Bear Cub some lovin.
Happy Satur-yay, blog! Today is Mumsie’s last day here. We’re going to miss her a whole lot.

Read "The Color Kittens" to M. this morning, a gift from Mom. It's one of her favorites.
She brought Baby M. two of her favorite children’s books–“Goodnight Moon” and “The Color Kittens”.

Grandma and her first grandchild. πŸ’•
Just as soon as she figured out how to soothe him, she has to go home again. BOOOOOO.

Joy over Monte Cristo breakfast casserole YUM (thanks @dubtrance for the inspiration).
Christopher had been taunting me with offering up his breakfast Monte Cristo casserole recipe for ages but NEVER DELIVERING (as with so many things) so we went over his head and Googled the recipe and made it. Delicious!

Too bad my mother picked the week M. is going through a growth spurt to visit...we are SO TIRED! 😭Nevertheless, a family dog walk felt good.
I’ve walked the dogs every single day that Mom has been here, and then in the afternoon I’ve been stuffing M. into the Moby and we’ve gone for another walk. It’s been wonderful.

Waiting for Maggie to drop the ball.
Today I’d like to go for a full family walk before Brenna’s 40th birthday party at 4…if it stops snowing, that is. Gross.

Hard to believe that today would have been Kurt Cobain's 50th birthday. I still love him as much as I did 20+ years ago. πŸ˜₯
Brenna’s birthday party theme is “Come as you are”. I tried on my Kurt jeans from high school (too small) and my overalls from high school (too small), so I don’t know what the hell I’m gonna stuff my post-pregnancy bod into tonight, but at least I can wear sparkly eyeshadow and a choker, yeah? This past February 20th Kurt would have been 50 years old.

Art marker/ink, 2011. I made this drawing into a T-shirt design back when I had a Zazzle store. Remember Zazzle?
Lately I’ve been posting all my fun drawings from 2011 on IG, and it’s paid off! My old blog friend Liz bought “Neon Amish” last week!

M & M. β€πŸ’šπŸŒŸ
First we do Tummy Time on the mat to strengthen his little neck and shoulder muscles, then I flip him over and let him gaze at all the fun toys dangling.

Hey fellow IG seamstresses, it will now cost the same to fix my 20-year-old Singer as to buy a new one, anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for a basic but heavy-duty machine.
Bob kindly fixed part of my broken sewing machine during their last visit with us, but unfortunately it broke again. Turns out it will probably cost less to buy a new Singer than repair my 20-year-old Singer, and my mother is offering to buy it for me, which is very kind of her. I just need to pick a machine.

Discovered two smile generators this week: tickling his chest and upper lip!
I’ve figured out how to make him smile and coo–by tickling his chest and upper lip. The cutest!

Advanced baby techniques: standing tall! πŸ’ͺ
Such a little man. Such stromph.

More adventures in babywearing: I loaded my big fat baby into the Moby and mom and I went for a quick walk. The sun even came out! 🌞
Babywearing in February involves zipping a jacket over the Moby and baby inside. Brrrr!

Clearly the boss around here these days. 🌈Vintage rainbow onesie thanks to my cousin Erika!
I couldn’t WAIT to get him into this vintage terrycloth rainbow onesie from Erika…and now it’s nearly too small!

More signs of spring. πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›
My mother reminded me this morning that spring doesn’t start until March 21st. “Ugh,” was my reply.

Ooo-ooh February sunshine, you make me feel so fine 🌞
Desperately Seeking Sunshine.

Today we met an adorable 8-month-old black Lab named Maynard.
We’ve been meeting new dogfriends on our daily dog walks. This excited little dude’s name is Maynard.

Today we frolicked with a yellow Lab named Larry. πŸ’›
Maynard’s brother, Larry. So cute!

Fun cloud formations today. ☁️
Fun cloud formations.

Mumsie and I have been binge-watching "Will & Grace". 🌈
Mom and I have watched a lot of “Will & Grace” while she’s been here–I own seasons 3-8.

“I could watch Will and Grace all day long and never get tired of it,” she sighed the other day, prompting me to text Christopher immediately. She also cried when she found out Donna Summer was dead (she died in 2012). Never change, Mumsie!

The mens. πŸ’š
Such a good daddy.

"You say it's time to go home? Quick! Into the nearest body of water!" πŸ’¦
They always gotta get in the water right as we’re leaving the dog park.

Tired of looking at my baby? I'm not! He has his own private IG @babyboyholcomb if you are interested in more baby pics.
Love this picture. Love his rolls!

He looooves to bounce on the stability ball.
Bouncing on the stability ball will diffuse baby cries most of the time.

Wearing his bear shirt today, which is meant for three month old?? Apparently baby clothing sizing is as screwed up as women's.
Yesterday he wore his adorable bear shirt, which is sized “0 to 6 months”. Baby sizing is as screwy as women’s sizing!

Art marker/Sharpie, 2011. πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨
Another drawing from 2011.

M. and Jen have a deep conversation.
Last night we had a visit from our old co-worker, Jen. She brought him baby books and had deep conversations with him.

Just as Mom cracks the baby code and figures out how to soothe him, she has to leave. 😭We're going to miss her a lot!
Mumsie soothing M. into a relaxed state while I scarf down an ice cream sandwich (important). Baby M. loves to fuss while I eat!

Snow’s gone, sun’s out and time to get these buns out! Ta ta, blog!

Oh yes it’s Ladies Night, and the feeling’s right!

Oh yes it’s Ladies Night, and the feeling’s right!

πŸ’™
Hola blog! Mumsie is cuddling with Baby M. while I type out my weekly blog entry…while simultaneously holding a hot compress on my left nipple. Motherhood has made me a master class multitasker.

I thought I was over shows about zombies, but along came "Santa Clarita Diet". It's adorable!
This week’s nighttime viewing (while cluster feeding) show: “The Santa Clarita Diet”. Cutest show about zombies you’ll ever see. I was resistant to watching it at first, but hooked by the end.

First signs of spring hit our backyard! 🌱
Spring is starting to hit our backyard.

Sunny family walkies. πŸ’š
I love our family walkies.

Tummy Time to Deee-Lite radio on Pandora (note the dogs in the background).
This particular Tummy Time session was to Deee-Lite radio.

First family outing to a dog park: complete! 🌲
Last weekend (Saturday? Sunday? Who can say) we had our first outing to a big dog park. The BOB stroller handled the roots wonderfully! And although there was an initial screamfest in the car that required a breastfeeding session (in the garage, before take-off), the baby was quiet during the entire trip to the park, and both car rides. Phewwwwww. I know they have to cry occasionally. But I don’t have to like it!

Put in contacts today for the first time in ??? It's easy to let self-care slide while taking care of a newborn. Maybe in two weeks I'll be able to paint my toenails!
Feeling like myself again, including wearing contacts for the first time in ???. I even painted my toe-nails this week!

Wow. What an incredibly gorgeous mama.
We didn’t watch the Grammy Awards, but I caught a pregnant-with-twins Beyonce on Youtube the next morning and was blown away by her look, performance and whole vibe. Gorgeous. Almost makes me want to be pregnant again (JUST KIDDING).

What a beautiful day! 🌞
I enlisted the help of my friendly neighbor to watch Baby M. while I take the dogs for a quick daily walk, and it’s been wonderfully therapeutic. Especially when the sun is shining.

Afternoon disco dance party to Donna Summer radio..."Ladies Night" by Kool and the Gang really made him bop around.
Afternoon dance parties in the sunny nursery to “Ladies Night” are also fantastic! Look at this little man.

I had been waiting to put these booties on him, and now they're almost too small! He has big feet like his mom. So proud! πŸ‘£
I waited to put this adorable booties on him, and now at nearly 6 weeks old guess what? They’re too small! He sure has his mother’s big feet.

Josh and I don't normally celebrate Valentine's Day, but what the hay, motherhood has made me sentimental. Happy Valentine's Day! @djmagicelf πŸ’šπŸ’™β€(homemade card circa 2008, the year we got married)
Mothering a newborn made it impossible to go out and get Joshy anything for Valentine’s Day (or even the day before Valentine’s Day, which is what we usually celebrate). He brought me home a card, some little presents, and a heart-shaped chocolate cake though. He’s so gooooood.

Adorable homemade card from my MIL to Baby M.. πŸ’–
Love the monster card Fleeta made for Baby M.. She’s always so thoughtful.

Josh bought me this fun decorative ball last night, which immediately began shedding gold glitter all over our son. Eh, he's five weeks old, time to start experiencing what this household is all about! ✨🌟✨
Josh bought me this fun decorative ball, which immediately began shedding all over the house and our son’s head. Sparkle, baby!

Nature Cub! 🌲
These dogs follow me around the house allll day long. I suppose they always did, but I thought maybe Bear Cub would distance herself from the baby. Wrong! She’s a protective Cub.

The bright-eyed and calm moments are wonderful. And the smiles! I've requested more smiles! πŸ’™
This week he’s been smiling more and just recently started cooing at me, which I love so much there is no way I’m going to break focus and take a picture! So he looks serious in all of his pictures.

Monday. πŸ’™
So much love.

I have been so lucky this week to have someone watch the baby long enough for me to take the dogs for a walk...and 3 out of 4 of those days were sunny! Take THAT, crappy forecast! 🌞
My photos haven’t changed all that much, there’s just a lot more…baby.

Special thanks to @algae13 today, who allowed me to walk the dogs and eat a meal (without breast-feeding at the same time), and who cuddled Baby M. into a nap and lent us some groovy baby carriers! Mwah! 😘
Thursday Josh’s old boss came over in the morning and let me walk the dogs, eat lunch (without breastfeeding at the same time), snuggled the baby AND lent me some fancy schmnancy baby carriers to wear! This purple one is one of them. It’s similar to the Moby. He fussed at first but I hypnotized him by bouncing on the stability ball and then he chilled out.

Come on, spring!
More spring in the backyard.

Just ducky. πŸ’™
Spotted on our dog walk yesterday.

My mother visiting meant TWO dog walks today! Woo hoo! And look who decided to go for a swim on the way home. Labs.
Maggie dog had to jump in the nearest body of water right as we were leaving the park, of course!

Grandma and Baby M.. πŸ’•
Mumsie flew into town Thursday night, and it’s been wonderful having her here. Yesterday I was able to take two dog walks, and we brought home Hawaiian food to eat for dinner last night, mmmmm.

Somebody's been a little fussbucket the last two nights...but he's still awfully cute.
He’s had two super fussy nights in a row, but who’s counting? I’m pretty happy if I can piece together 5 hours of sleep per night.

Drizzly walk today. πŸ’¦
Today’s walk…oh, I hear my baby crying! I can’t believe I made it through this entire blog entry. Catch you later!

Is it spring yet?

Is it spring yet?

Today I successfully stuffed my 9 pound 11 oz (😳) baby into the Moby wrap, put a jacket over the top, and slooowly walked one dog at a time around the block, no crying! You gotta celebrate the little victories.
Hey-o blog! This photo was taken a week ago, the first day I successfully managed to get Baby M. into the Moby wrap, cover it with a coat, and slowwwly walk one dog at a time around our neighborhood. He does well in the Moby wrap when he’s tired, thankfully. Unfortunately, my back does not!

I don't usually post inspirational messages, but this one spoke to me today. Also I really love the look of bright florals against black (thanks @ashleylongshoreart) πŸ’–
From the IG account of Ashley Longshore, a fun New Orleans artist I’ve followed ever since Christopher recommended her to me. I like the message, and I also like bright florals against black.

This morning's reading selections. πŸ“š
The goal is one book a day, and sometimes we make it, sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we read four books to make up!

Huh?
Ughhhh yeaaaaaahhhh OVER IT.

"What's it all about?"
Oh man, I love this picture. Look at that double chin (his, not mine). Delicious.

First baby sponge bath: a success. And I finally got an adequate amount of sleep for the first time in 3 days, so I feel like a new woman. 🌞
It’s safe to say that he likes to snuggle.

Got my dog walk in today (in the rain). 🌈
This was the first day that I got adequate sleep (a real smile!), followed by two or three nights of two hour sleep, after which I was just about at the end of my rope so I went to our new GP and successfully re-started 50 mg of Trazodone. I’m the sort of person that can’t handle sleep deprivation well, AT ALL, and Trazzie is minimally excreted into breast milk. Now I’m sleeping again, Josh is sleeping, the baby is sleeping, and all is well.

A little rain never bothers these PNW dogs.
I enlisted my neighbor to come over and watch the baby today so I could take the girls for a (windy rainy and coooold) dog walk. It was a welcome break! And she is happy to do it, besides. It’s great having neighbors that are willing to help you out.

Dinner with the great-grandparents. Shirley is a Baby Whisperer.
Sunday night, dinner at Grandma Shirley’s place. Look at how relaxed M. is here…she is the Baby Whisperer.

I would like to sleep this soundly. 😴
Such a little man.

Sunday rainy day walkies.
Walking before the Superbowl on Sunday, baby strapped on.

Snow day!
Monday morning…GROSS.

Father and son. πŸ’•
We took the baby for his check-up and he is already over 10 pounds!

Well, we got through one book today. πŸ‡
I think Peta gave us this book, and personally knows the author? My baby shower seems like it was a loooooong time ago.

This beautiful boy is one month old today. 🌟
On Tuesday Baby M. turned one month old. ALREADY ONE MONTH OLD. Soon he’s gonna be a surly teenager.

First successful outing with the Bob and dogs. We only lasted about ten minutes because of all the snow and slippery ice.
I was so desperate for a dogwalk on Tuesday that I loaded up the dogs and baby and Bob, drove to the park, and once there realized that the amount of snow and ice on the ground was way more than I had anticipated! We lasted about ten minutes. Still, that was our first solo outing to the park…you gotta celebrate the little victories.

M. and Maggie, ever protective.
Maggie and Bear Cub are really good with him.

Yesterday we wore stripes.
Tuesday was my most sleep-deprived day yet, and that was when I took this picture.

“You look about thirteen in that picture,” said my mother over the phone, “But so tired!” I was. But luckily things have straightened out.

Currently reading.
Currently reading.

I always liked the Brady Brunch movie from the 90s better than the original show.
I love RuPaul. Last night I typed in “RuPaul” to Youtube and just watched an hour straight of RuPaul interviews on various talk shows. So many great sound bytes!

Adventures in Babywearing: the rain washed away all the snow and ice today, so I was able to strap on my baby and take the girls for a quick nature walk. Although ohhh my back! He wasn't a ten pound baby when I was pregnant with him!
Voila! Good-bye snow! AND DON’T COME BACK.

Yesterday. Slouchy beanie (not so slouchy on my big head) by @corinne_spoja πŸ’–
The Broad made that slouchy beanie…which isn’t so slouchy on my big head.

This is a good one.
Last night I had a fierce craving for Mongolian Grill…and it did not disappoint. I liked my fortune, too.

"All we are saying," says Baby M., "Is give peace a chance." Today's cute little outfit thanks to @flynnpobrien and @curleyobrien 😘
This morning I dressed M. in a new little outfit sent by my cousin Flynn and his wife Molly. I realized later after looking at the picture that M. was flashing me the peace sign. So cute!

Threw Maggie a tennis ball this morning and she returned with this.
I threw a tennis ball to Maggie this morning, and she returned with this. Hmmm.

That’s it! My past week. Some lows (sleep deprivation), some highs (first bath, first successful solo babywearing/stroller outings). We’re all getting through this newborn stage, one day at a time. And in the meantime, he sure is cute to look at. So long blog, it’s time for my dinner.

My Broad and my boy. πŸ’™
Hey blog! Currently I am sleep deprived, but what better time to blog 2392014329 pictures of my newborn baby? Here is the Broad. She came over for a visit and snuggled with my boy.

Ohhhh this cutie.
Bright-eyed in this one, a state that he is not often in these days. Newborns sleep a lot! Which gives me little chunks of time throughout the day to accomplish tasks.

#tbt Kauai, 2014. Mmmmmmm...🌈
This must have been for Throwback Thursday last week–Kauai, 2014. Look at that water, droooool…

Christy came for a visit. πŸ’•
Christy also came for a visit. She is due any day now. In the past week, two out of the four pregnant ladies I know have had their baby boys. Christy is next!

Sweet boy.
He is sooooo sweeeeeet. I want to make my Flickr private for his sake, but then this blog would have to be private too, and then I really would just be blogging for myself. Hmmmm. Well…not ready to make that leap yet. Making my Instagram private was a big step for me.

Baby M. looking thoughtful. πŸ€”
Deep thoughts.

How come fat on baby thighs is so attractive?
Delicious baby thighs. He weighed in at the hospital this morning at 9 pounds, 11 ounces! What a little chunkeroo! MY FAVORITE.

Nice afternoon for it. πŸ’š
I really miss this aspect of paternity leave. It’s so much easier handling stroller + two dogs with two people. Yesterday I tried doing a walk with the stroller by myself, but Baby M. is currently in a carseat hating phase and screamed so hard after I loaded the dogs in the car that I ended up unloading them, going back into the house and popping him on the boob instead.

Successfully got the little guy into the Moby wrap this morning. At this size, I find it more comfortable than the Ergo.
Later on after Josh came home from work, I took the dogs for a quick walk, sans baby. I need the daily dog walk, especially when it’s sunny outside. It’s really important for my mental health. I thought I could take the baby in the Moby wrap (see above photo), but I must have tied it too loosely because his head wasn’t supported at all. Curses!

This little chunk is up to 9 pounds. Alriiiight, breast milk! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘Š
Today, however, I tied the Moby REAL tight, got the little squirt in there and then, taking one dog at a time, took a slooooow walk around the block. Today is the last day of sunshine for a while and I was determined to get my 15 minutes, dammit! Plus the dogs had been staring at me expectantly all day. There’s that dog guilt.

πŸ‘£
Obsessed.

Somebody was fussy alllll night long. It's hard to stay mad at this face though.
My mother tells me about her day at work over the phone and I realize breastfeeding this sweet baby every hour or two hours all day long ain’t so shabby.

Everyone wants my Ring Pop.
I still have a lot of red candy leftover from my birthday present.

β€πŸ’šπŸ’™
Cute factor aside, yuck, I think you have to be under the age of 10 to enjoy these things. Or under the influence of…something.

So far our first day alone together is off to a good start...we slept in until 8! πŸ’š
Oh little man. Love him in this long-sleeved wrap shirt.

πŸ’•
The orange leggings are from my mother, they match the Boppy cover, and of course I notice things like that!

Hot.
This is a good look.

Reading this book summoned the dogs this morning.
I’ll admit, I haven’t been reading much to him yet. I’ve read two books in three weeks! And we are readers in this family! I gotta step up my game.

Ka-POW! πŸ‘Š
Ka-POW! We haven’t yet had Tummy Time today. We’ve just had Booby Time and Fussy Time (ugh I’m so sorry I talk like this now, it really can’t be helped).

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. 🌈
One of my birthday gifts from Josh that I hung in his nursery window.

Quick dogwalk sans baby after Josh came home. I haven't yet mastered stroller + two dogs by myself...maybe tomorrow. 🌲
Apparently there will be 6 more weeks of winter? Hey, at least it isn’t snowing.

FINALLY some painting inspiration! Joan Crawford with grapes! Thanks @dubtrance, you know my taste so well πŸ˜˜πŸ‡πŸ‡πŸ‡
Christopher inspired me to paint Joan Crawford in this grapes costume, and I started the painting yesterday. It’s going to be on a little tiny 5 x 7 inch canvas, because that’s what I have on hand, but it will be a nice transitional painting for me. Transitioning back into portraits!

Rough night last night. Good thing he's so adorable today. πŸ˜…
Supposedly babies don’t really focus on objects at only 3 weeks, but I swear he was checking out this mobile yesterday.

More lactation cookies, this time with a mixture of dark chocolate and butterscotch chips, mmmmmm.
During one of my breastfeeding breaks I managed to bake a bunch of lactation cookies again, this time with dark chocolate AND butterscotch chips. Mmmmmm.

Finally the ground isn't covered with snow or ice or rain, and we uncovered three tennis balls we had "lost" at the park! πŸ˜‚
Finally able to explore hills (because I’m not waddling around with a pregnant body any more), we discovered three tennis balls at the park yesterday we thought we had “lost”! Woo hoo!

I finally caught his smile on camera. Made today's sleep deprivation totally worth it.
I was so tired last night, laying on the couch after a loooong breastfeeding session, waiting for Josh to come home so we could eat dinner. I had the little dude laying on me, and I used the reverse camera to look at his face and surprise! A smile! This was the first time I managed to capture one of those fleeting smiles on camera. It makes me really happy.

Six more weeks of winter, eh? Baby M doesn't mind.
And finally today, after (what else?) a breastfeeding session. He is so content when he’s milk drunk. Siiiiiigh. Oh man. Mommy needs a nap. See ya, blog.

* I’m working my way through “30 Rock”, a cute little show that requires no thought process from yours truly, which, these days, is niiiiice.

Baby this and baby that

Baby this and baby that

What a bunch of cuties.
Hey blerg, are you ready for 2432943294 pictures of my baby? Of course you are. We all knew that Glitter for All would become Babies for Some once I squeezed him out of my body.

Ronia meets her new cousin.
My sister-in-law has been over for two visits now to hang out with Baby M. Look at how cute Ronia and the baby are! Mawwwww.

New baby love.
Everyone loves a new baby.

A gift from Brenna for M. to grow into.
She even brought him a cool shirt to grow into.

Morning tummy time.
We’re already on Josh’s third, and final, week of paternity leave. Boooooo!

Recent resurgence of an old hobby.
While awaiting the Painting Muse, I have been spending my time in between breastfeeding sessions doing puzzles.

Milk drunk is the best drunk.
This dude likes to breastfeed. I’ve been using an app to keep track of feedings…I think we did about 14 yesterday.

Kate in orange (forgot who I stole this from, sorry)
You gotta throw a little glamour into the baby pic mix from time to time.

I knew having a baby would turn my IG into a baby stream...but I can't stooooop...😍
He’s sleeping pretty well most nights. Last night he had two three-hour chunks of sleep…that was nice.

Had a nice visit from @espedp today. She brought me flowers! πŸ’–
Espe, at about 39 weeks pregnant, came over for a visit and brought me these beautiful flowers.

Things I have accomplished today: most of a puzzle, many breastfeedings, and um, this. (thanks @gabriel_held)
There’s an obnoxious Japanese app called “Meitu” that gives your selfies this fun effect. I texted it to my mother, who texted it to my father, who wrote to tell me that motherhood had given me a “beautiful glow”. “That’s not motherhood, that’s Japanese photoshop,” I replied. Still sweet of him to say.

Played "Vogue" during tummy time this morning. "Listen up, son," I told him. "This is a very important song!"
We try to do Tummy Time every day. Mornings are generally best for that–he’s alert without being fussy.

These are special days.
You have to cherish these days, even the tough ones.

Inevitable. I like how they drew eyebrows on him. πŸ˜‚
Of course I did the Meitu app on him, too. Look at the little eyebrows!

Noooooo...😭
This puzzle was a colossal pain in the ass and when I finished, there were two pieces missing! Nooooo.

Morning dance party to Digable Planets' "Rebirth of Slick".
We often do Tummy Time to the Biz Markie station on Pandora, and sometimes the Tribe Called Quest station.

Hard to say no to this face.
Ever begging.

So proud of all the women I know who will be marching today. πŸ’ͺ
I was very proud of my sister-in-law and my Broad for joining the women’s march last Saturday. 50,000 people were expected to march in Seattle, and 175,000 did! Amazing!

Siiiiiiggghhhhh...😍
I marched in spirit. I’m just now, the last couple of days, starting to go for short walks outside again. Recovering from delivering an 8 pound baby (with a second degree tear) ain’t no fun.

Bear Cub keeping an eye on things.

First walkies session with son/dogs: complete! Although we did have to pull over on the way to the park for a breastfeeding session.
This was our first walk. He screamed and cried so hard on the way to the park I had to give him a breastfeeding session before we started the walk. Heigh ho!

"Dollars to donuts, a fat baby foot is going right in my mouth." - Janeane Garofalo. SAME.
Siiiiiiiiiigh.

Puzzling and breastfeeding. I'm gonna need a painting project real soon. πŸ˜…
Seriously though, I need a painting project.

Love this stupid app. Can I just look like this all the time, please? 🌟✨✨
Meitu again! Addictive!

I had been tossing around the idea of painting Gloria Swanson (we’re distantly related, after all), but I can’t find just the right picture.

Trying out the Ergo carrier with infant insert (and actual baby inside).
Trying out the Ergo, this time with actual baby inside.

Enjoying sunny walkies. 🌞
We’ve been taking the Bob stroller on walkies.

Last week of paternity leave with this dude already! 😭
The sunshine feels great.

What do babies think about?
What do babies think about?

My walking partner.
I’d say we’re holding up pretty darn well for the new parents of a two-week-old.

Ponytails.
We’re enjoying two new (for us) shows: “Orphan Black” and “Schitt’s Creek”, which is truly funny. You should check it out!

I had a baby!

I had a baby!

Last day of work outfit (for a while). My boss remarked that I had the face of someone about to go into labor. Well yeah!
Hi blog! I don’t look like this any more, because I had my baby! Yayyyyy! Betcha didn’t think I would be blogging again so soon. I know I didn’t. But here I am.

This week I upped the daily dog walk from one a day to two. Let's GO, labor! πŸ’ͺ
Last week/weekend we tried and tried to induce labor naturally–by extra walks, yoga, eating fresh pineapple, eating dates for weeks on end, sex…

Final night of the perv mustache: the John Waters.
…with a perv mustache! The joys!

Josh and I collaborated on this amazing eggplant Parmesan tonight. Apparently basil and oregano induce labor? If not, it certainly is delicious! 😍
Even collaborating in the kitchen on a giant pan of Eggplant Parmesan, which, although delicious, did not make my child want to leave the cozy confines of my womb any more. Harrumph.

Guess who's been glued to my side all day? Oh yeah. They know something's up.
My parents arrived into town last Sunday and spent the night with us. We feasted on Eggplant Parmesan and I got a whole lot more sleep than I expected to get the night before my induction.

Got to the park right before the rain started today. πŸ’¦
The induction wasn’t scheduled until 6:30 pm (women are more likely to go into labor at night), so Monday was all about keeping busily distracted.

One last dog walk with Mumsie. Today's the Big Day! πŸ‘Ά
For my Last Pregnant Meal I requested my mother’s macaroni and cheese, but the oven took too long to pre-heat so we all ended up having hamburgers and fries for dinner. Heigh ho!

COMING SOON. I'm making my IG private for a while. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™
Once we got to the hospital, my OB did a cervix check and pronounced that I was already 2.5 cm dilated and 70% effaced, which she was extremely pleased about. They had a pill for me to take every 4 hours to soften my cervix, and I was allowed to take it a maximum of 6 times.

Last night with Mumsie. Made it all the way to 9 cm before getting the epidural today...now just waiting for the final descent.
That night, walking the halls with Mumsie.

Waiting for induction and pleasantly distracted by "Ab Fab" (series 1).
The pill had no other side effects, so I felt normal as we watched “Ab Fab” (series 1) and “The Other Guys” with my parents. They let me take a Benedryl to sleep (the hospital bed was insanely uncomfortable), and I had two more doses of the pill.

Still passing time, waiting for Baby M. to make his grand appearance.
The next day, they started me on pitocin to induce contractions, and we again passed the time as best we could. I ate normally, put together a jigsaw puzzle, went for little walks around the hospital floor. Around 1 pm, the contractions started to become too painful to ignore, so I sent my parents away so I could exclusively focus on getting through them, with the help of my Doula (Josh) and the nurse.

Gradually the pain got worse and worse–the nurse was excellent, she acted like a second Doula and coached Josh and I through several different positions/techniques to ease the pain. The last medicine-free resort I opted for was sitting in the bathtub and spraying warm water over myself–but then it was just too much. The nurse had told me I could opt for Fentanyl before the epidural, since once you have the epidural you are bedbound–and I called for it. MISTAKE! The Fentanyl made my tongue slurry and vision wonky, but did not relieve the pain. I needed the epidural, stat, and they immediately brought in the anesthetist to administer it to me.

I later found out that I had made it all the way to 9 cm dilation–9 cm! Me! The person who nearly passed out from having a little ankle tattoo at age 18!–before I got the epidural. Now for the next part–I couldn’t have imagined getting through the last part of labor without that epidural. Because I pushed for FOUR HOURS STRAIGHT. It was horrible. Towards the end they want me to “hold in” every other contraction, which is almost worse than pushing, and eventually holding it IS worse than pushing. I was on oxygen and the little guy’s heart rate was dropping every time I pushed. A vacuum was mentioned previously, and near the fourth hour I begged them to use it. He was so low and it was so painful to push I knew I couldn’t let them give me a C-section, so I pushed with all my might…

Started pitocin at 9:30 am, got an epidural at 9 cm (!!), and after 4 hours of pushing, sweet Baby M. came into this world weighing 8 pounds and 1 ounce. He is beautiful and perfect, and we are in love.
…and Baby M. came screaming into this world. My eyes were closed, but I heard that he practically flew out of me, arms akimbo. I opened my eyes right as he came towards my chest and fell 100% in love instantly, and started talking to him immediately (Josh was sobbing).

“You’re going to learn very soon son,” I murmured into his perfect ear, “That the family motto is, “Nothing comes easy for us”.”

Pops with his very first grandchild.
I had a second-degree tear from pushing my 8 pound, one ounce son out of my body, which required stitches. After a little while we called all the grandparents in, who had shown up at the hospital without our prompting and had been waiting in the waiting room while I labored for who knows how long.

Very happy Mumsie with her first grandchild, born one day before her birthday.
Baby M. was born on January 10th, 2017, the day before Mumsie’s 65th birthday. For her birthday this year I had put together a book of “65 Reasons why you’re awesome”, just like I had done for my father on his 60th. I forgot to take pictures of it. Darn it. Priorities.

Simply the best.
This was around 5 in the morning, when I looked into my son’s eyes and cried over how beautiful he is.

This guy--was a pro Doula during my long labor, and already a first rate swaddler. πŸ’™
The hospital discharged us around 5 pm the next day, and Josh’s parents are staying with us for the next two weeks to help out. Well, week now, they’ve been here for nearly a week already. It’s taken me three days to compose this blog entry!

Baby M. with great-grandma Shirley.
The great-grandparents came for a visit. He is their 6th great-grandchild.

Can't get enough.
My little man.

Father and son.
He has my monkey toes (poor kid) and my beautiful ears.

Breastfeeding watchdogs at work. They've been great with the new addition. Curious, but not too annoyed.
The dogs have been great. Curious, but not pushy. And Bear Cub is quite protective already.

Tummy time! πŸ’•
Josh has been so good about staying up with the little guy when he has his midnight to 3 am cry fests. I feed; he walks and rocks and soothes. I can’t do a lot–everything hurts. Not to mention I threw my back out Friday at the doctor’s appointment and that didn’t help ANY thing.

Josh's parents are staying with us for two weeks while we adjust with baby. They have been wonderful.
Love this picture of Fleeta and Bob. They’ve been wonderful.

Had a nice visit from @algae13 this morning. She brought donuts!
Josh’s former boss came over for a visit. She’s a little baby crazy. She brought pasta salad, homemade chocolate cookies and donuts, mmmm.

Rooooooolls (and yeah that's a dog hair on his cheek, poor kid!).
Looking forward to not hurting any more, but in the meantime, this view helps.

But the mother and child reunion is only a motion away...
Being a mom feels very natural to me.

Maggie assumes the quesadilla begging position.
Can’t wait until I can walk the dogs again.

He inherited my long monkey toes. πŸ™ˆ
So gooooood.

My life right now is just sort of hobbling around the house re-applying Tucks pads to my XL Depends, drinking lots of water and eating lactation cookies, and feeding my son whenever he gets squirrely. Not too shabby. It’s all good.

Oh baby!

Oh baby!

Too pregnant to lace shoes...send help!
Heyyyy blog. This may very well be my last blog entry before I have a baby and therefore lose massive amounts of brain cells and stop caring about the Internet and blogging for a while yayyyyyy! However, I have enabled a program to automatically upload all my Instagram photos to Flickr, so even if I’m not HERE, you can find me on Instagram HERE or on Flickr HERE.

At the gym last night. Found out this morning that I might be getting induced at week 39...that's a little over a week away! Squeal! I'm excited!
You wouldn’t think to look at me, but I am still going to the gym. Ever since I found out I will likely be induced on Monday, I’ve actually been making an effort to move MORE. Come on son, let’s get that labor on naturally! Mama doesn’t really want to be induced!

Nursery art for Baby M., from Etsy shop "Lucy Darling Prints". I'd already had the frame for years, waiting for the right piece to show up! πŸ’š
My OB wants to induce me due to my “advanced age” and also because I did IVF. Apparently babies who are born before 40 weeks do better than babies who are born overdue…and Baby M. seems awfully comfortable in there. I’m not comfortable, but he seems to be!

Josh got me a laminated label maker for Christmas...STOKED! People with A.D.D. loooove labeling things.
This labelmaker has already brought me and my A.D.D. so much joy.

Watching Mr. Bennett this weekend! πŸ’•
We agreed to watch Mr. Bennett over the weekend. Thank goodness he is 90% potty trained now, but he is EXTREMELY CLINGY and followed me around every second of every day, which is kind of annoying when you are enormously pregnant and trying to nest. Cute little guy, though.

Happy almost-New-Year! I quit drinking nearly 9 years ago, so I don't remember what it's like to party on New Year's Eve. I assume people still do that, though? Party?
I inadvertently ended up taking my maternity leave a little early, as I discharged my last patient last Friday. I’m available to work this week if any new patients show up, but here it is Thursday and I’ve not received any text messages from my boss. Hmmmm.

Another green/blue glitter beard for work today. Tomorrow night he's going to shave it off into some weird formation, but he promised to let me first give him one more extravagant NYE glitter beard! Yeah! ✨🌟✨
Josh’s last full day of having a giant glitter beard for work last Friday.

🌈🌟✨(thanks @jasoncampbellstudio)
A little rainbow glitter inspiration. He’s had his own “glitter station” in the bathroom for weeks now, talk about adorable. It was a little sad to pack it up.

Happy New Year! Looking forward to some BIG changes in 2017! βœ¨β€οΈπŸ‘ΆπŸŒŸβœ¨
On New Year’s Eve, I pulled out the bag of star-shaped glitter for him and he gave himself an EXTRA glittery beard. I didn’t feel like doing my hair, so I threw on the wig handiest and put a load of “Unicorn Snot” glitter gel and loose glitter on my eyelids and we took some photos.

Sparkle, Neely! πŸŽ‰βœ¨πŸŽ‡
We also drank cider, lit some sparklers and watched “Encino Man”! Let the good times ROLL!

Starting 2017 out on the right (dog) foot with an early-morning dog park session. 🌲
It’s been cold here, but so dry and sunny that all of the mud at the dog park is nice and hard. I’ve been taking the girls to the dog park every day. Let’s go, labor! Arf arf!

Bear Cub and her little white shadow.
Bear Cub ignored Mr. Bennett for the most part during his stay with us. Maggie on the other hand played with him several times. She’s such a good elder dog!

Bear Cub is feeling a little insecure with this third dog around. How will she be with a full-time new baby?!? πŸ˜…
Monday, our last day with Mr. Bennett and a very insecure little Bear Cub curled up against Mommy. How on earth is she going to handle a full-time baby?

Not sure if it's the third dog or the baby coming, but Bear Cub napped on top of me today for the first time in 8 years. It was kinda sweet.
She even went so far as to nap directly on me! What on earth?!

Good-bye, 2016 beard, hello 2017...um, Creep?
The whittling down of the beard kicks off, so I get to be married to a pervert for a few days. I was not into this facial formation AT ALL.

Tonight we're watching the new "Ab Fab" movie. I haven't seen it since I watched it in the theater...it's even better the second time around!
We watched the new “Ab Fab” movie together, which I hadn’t seen since the Broad and I saw it in the theater. Even better the second time around!

Sup, Pornstache?
Monday night, at the gym. This look made me laugh every time I looked at him. He delusionally thought that the mustache made him look more “muscular”. Uh huh.

Probably my last ultrasound before the little dude is born. I'm already obsessed with his feet! 😍
This was on Monday’s ultrasound. Do you die? I DIE. Not even out of my womb yet and I’m already obsessed with his feet.

Basset hounds at the dog park mawww πŸ’•
Being on accidentally-early-maternity leave this week has been okay because the sun has been shining every single day. And I get to spend it with dogs! Look at this basset hound, maw!

Just whipping up a batch of "lactation cookies" this afternoon. Delicious. πŸͺπŸͺπŸͺ
I made a big batch of “lactation cookies” to freeze to help with my milk production. They are mostly oatmeal and dark chocolate chip and pretty delicious.

Watched this last night for the first time in years and shamelessly enjoyed myself. The bad wigs! So good!
Recently we watched the original “Parent Trap” with my old pal Hayley Mills. You will recall that I have my very own awful Hayley Mills wig!

Who's a happy Cub at the dog park today?
Bear Cub in her Happy Place. Meeeee tooooooo.

Bought these socks for Josh for Christmas cause he's a "fun guy" πŸ’–
I bought Josh some sexy argyle socks for Christmas. We like socks in this family.

Adventures in pervy mustaches: day 3.
Tuesday night! Still looking like a pervert!

My mother just texted me this image of their front yard...I am not at all envious.
That brings us up to date: today. My mother texted me this photo of her front yard. GROSS. Boise is going through an intense cold snap and she’s basically snowed in.

My parents will be flying in Sunday night, my in-laws will be driving over Monday, and my induction is scheduled for Monday evening unless Baby M. listens to Mommy and comes naturally! The time is finally here…I’m having a baby! So excited at this point. The terror will set in later, I’m sure. Send us lots of prayers and well-wishes for a healthy labor and delivery and baby!
