Let’s look back at 2016

Let’s look back at 2016

Hola blog! It’s that time of year when I force myself to do a yearly re-cap. I actually climbed onto the computer to print out a recipe for lactation cookies, but while I’m here, hells bells, why not re-cap what I did in 2016? Let’s take it month by month.

January 2016

Pre-surgery glamour, darling. πŸ’‹
Uterine polyp removal in preparation for IVF

– started hormone injections for IVF

– completed three heart-shaped Mandala paintings for sale HERE!

February 2016

Amazing glass at the Chihuly museum.
– Josh and I finally go to the Chihuly glass art museum downtown (worth it)

– ended the full-time job I’d had for the past couple of years, panicked for a week or two, and then signed on with a PRN position. Phewwwwww.

Pre-surgery for egg retrieval. They retrieved 14, above average! 🌟

– had my egg retrieval on my father’s 65th birthday (February 9th)

– found out that the two frozen embryos were both boys, and had a hearty laugh with my fertility doctor

– trimmed down coffee consumption from 3 cups a day to 1 cup (HELL)

March 2016

Is it done? Is it done yet? Finishing a painting is always the hardest part. πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨
Finished the neon glitter Mandala, which is definitely one of my faves. Available here!

scenic pond
Josh and I go to the Seattle Arboretum, in spite of the fact that my back is all messed up. I never did figure out why I had back problems for a few days/weeks, but it suuuuucked.

Caftan Number 2 purchased. My Year of the Caftan is off to a good start! Now I need to stop buying and start sewing them myself, sheesh.
I decide that 2016 is going to be the Year of the Caftan and buy two caftans, to that end. (note: sitting here GIANT at 9 months pregnant, I can’t BELIEVE how tiny my waist looks in that caftan, sob!)

– painted our bedroom
– started going to an IVF support group

Getting ready to caucus this morning. 🌈
Caucused for Bernie! (SIGH)

April 2016

First time on Mt. Rainier. Are we having fun yet? 🌟
Josh and I had competed against each other earlier in the year for a “Dietbet” and he won (I’m pretty sure he cheated by fasting, but whatever). My “punishment” was that I had to go skiing, but by the time April rolled around and my back was finally not screwed up, not much skiing was to be found so I was “punished” by walking in snow on Mount Rainier instead. It wasn’t terrible!

Finished painting the guest room last night. The "true" colors are really hard to capture via photo, but it's "Soothing lavender" on the top and "Periwinkle dream" on the bottom. Hi Jerry!
Painted the guest room.

Olympic Sculpture Park.
Downtown Seattle fun with Fleeta and Bob–Pike Place Market, and checking out the Olympic Sculpture Park.

Embarking on an "easy" 5K this morning on Tiger Mountain. I panted like a dog the entire time. Josh is training for a marathon and didn't even break a sweat! πŸ’ͺ
First trail run! An “easy” 5K up Tiger Mountain.

– April 28th: the day of my IVF transfer! One perfect little male embryo, which the nurse exclaimed looked “better than textbook”. Aw yeah.

May 2016

– started progesterone suppositories for IVF

A couple of dorks touring a chocolate factory for funsies.
Josh and I tour the Theo chocolate factory for funsies (and distraction) and while there, get the Very Important Phone Call that I’m pregnant! YAYYYY! We immediately burst into happy tears. Such a special moment.

– first ultrasound, post-transfer

June 2016

dogs in nature
First camping trip! Not only did we set a camping record for us this year–five times–but I did every single one of those trips pregnant.

– I finish Corinne’s cat paintings and start a project for the guest room

First archery lesson tonight with Josh. 🎯🎯🎯
Josh and I take an archery class together. He’s better than I am, but I’m not too resentful about it.

– started going back to the gym

This maniac ran the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon in the rain this morning! πŸ’ͺ
Josh runs the Rock and Roll Marathon; I do not join him.

Little Ronia is growing up fast.
Josh leaves his hormonal pregnant wife for EIGHT WHOLE DAYS to go float down a river or something so I spend one night at Brenna’s, because I am so lonely. It’s not the daytime loneliness that bothered me, it was the nighttime.

July 2016

🚼
Posted our “official” (12 weeks) pregnancy announcement to all forms of social media

Bear Cub doesn't look like a bear cub any more! 😱
Bear Cub gets trimmed a little TOO much and is re-christened “Goat Cub”

– thanks to Groupon, I receive my first facial (overrated)

– went and got a shellac manicure for the first time since January…but very quickly realized that shellac manicures are a waste of money when you’re pregnant. Your nails grow too quickly!

Maggie takes it easy
Camping trip number two!

@djmagicelf and @corinne_spoja and I ready to see Die Antwoord tonight woot wooooot! 🌟
Baby’s first concert: Die Antwoord! With my Broad.

Maggie and Bear Cub splash around Hyas Lake. πŸ’¦
Camping trip number three!

Tonight I said goodbye to my VW Passat that I've had for the past 10 years. Good-bye old girl! You were so lovely in concept but such a problem child in reality!
Said good-bye to my VW Passat wagon, which I loved but caused me a great deal of trouble during our 10 years together…

Hey there, sexy. 😍
…and HELLO to this sexy blue Subaru outback, which I love but am a little sad that now I have to make 500$ car payments for every month. Heigh ho.

– Josh and I and the girls hike to Twin Falls (2.5 miles but much harder while pregnant)

Tonight! πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨ Let's get celebritied up!
My Broad and I go see the new “Ab Fab” movie together. She tried to get out of it (twice!) but I wouldn’t let her. It was great!

FINALLY at the Mod Podge (i.e. last) stage of this painting. This little side project for the guest room ended up taking way longer than I thought! 🎨
Finally finish this Polly Apfelbaum rip-off painting for our guest room.

August 2016

In honor of #bumpday, here is my bump! He just popped out this week and I'm happy to finally look pregnant, not just like I've been eating too many donuts. 🍩
At 16 weeks pregnant, my belly POPS! Aw, look at how tiny and cute it was.

Josh bought me a little lemon tree for our anniversary. I hope I don't kill it immediately. πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹
Joshy and I celebrate our 8-year anniversary…he bought me a little lemon tree. Would you believe it’s still alive? And on the back patio, yet? Amazing.

Camping love.
Camping trip number 4! The first actually warm trip, too. Thank goodness.

More progress on the Mandala.
Started a new Mandala painting, which ended up taking wayyyyyy longer than I thought it would to finish.

My crazy-ass husband doing a headstand on a paddle board. @djmagicelf 😘
A very special (final) camping trip to a private island, where I got to witness my husband doing a headstand on a paddleboard. Who knew he had hidden talents?

BUMP. Enjoying my "beauty room" for a few more months before it becomes the baby room.
At 18 weeks pregnant, I made the decision to quit weighing myself (a very smart decision and I highly recommend it). Of course, this was a little easier to do because Josh broke the scale right around that time. Tempting to just never buy a scale again!

Look at where Josh hiked to today without me--Blanca Lake! I've wanted to go for ages but it's too arduous for my pregnant body. 😭
Josh makes me mad by hiking one of my bucket list lakes without me, Lake Blanca. Heigh ho! He said it was HARD. Well then. GOOD.

My cute cousin Erika and her equally cute son Cash.
Erika and her two sons come for a visit! We go to Pike Place Market, she cooks for me AND sets up the crib and we have a fabulous time.

September 2016

Tonight we met Mr. Bennett. 😍
We meet Mr. Bennett–Ronia’s birthday present–for the first time.

Mumsie and me.
I spend a fun week in Boise with my parents and the Little Nipper, and feel Baby M. kick for the first time! So exciting!

Josh and his 90-year-old grandmother at breakfast this morning.
Josh and I drive to Spokane so he can climb a mountain with his father, while Fleeta and I do a little baby shopping. Then before we drive home, we have breakfast with his 90-year-old grandmother. Isn’t this a cute picture?

Got the baby room painted. I think it needs a cute border, though. Dinosaurs?
Finished painting the nursery, but found it kind of boring, so I start searching for the perfect wallpaper border.

First minkie/flannel blankie for my son: complete! βœ‚οΈ
Made a couple of minkie-and-flannel baby blankets for my son (this one was my favorite).

Putting up the dinosaur border in the nursery today. πŸ’š
Found the perfect border for the nursery–dinosaurs!

One last ultrasound today to make sure our little dude's heart is okay (it is). πŸ’–
Had a special ultrasound to make sure the little guy’s heart is okay…and of course it is!

October 2016

Today's art project was painting a friend's little neighborhood library. 🌈
Went over to Shoshanna’s house to paint her little free library

Made some green curtains for the nursery to match the dinosaur border. πŸ’š
Made some curtains for the nursery

The quilt I made my mother looks pretty good in our guest room.
Fleeta sweetly fixes up this quilt that I made for my parents and returns it to me, where it’s currently residing in our guest room. It looks pretty good in the guest room!

Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks?
Started ramp training the pets to prepare them for having to be in the BACK back of the car, once Baby M. comes

A couple of happy pregnant ladies in florals. We are due 2 weeks apart, with boys.
Josh and I attend our first non-work-related baby shower…

liz pregnant with Josh
…and the same afternoon, we take the tripod to the park and snap some maternity pics before the sun completely disappears.

Phase 3 of ombrΓ©-fying the free dresser: complete! We only spent money on the drawer pulls. Total cost: less than 20$.
We obtain a hideous brown dresser from “Buy Nothing” and completely transform it into this cool ombre work of art for the nursery! I guess Pinterest is good for something.

IMG_3975
My friend Espe, who is due two weeks after me with a boy, takes some beautiful maternity photos of me at a park, for free! She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.

"That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, Homeskillet." Happy Halloween from Juno and Paulie Bleeker!
Josh and I dress up as Juno and Paulie Bleeker from the film “Juno”. Not the most exciting Halloween costumes ever, but it’s really hard doing Halloween when you’re a big sweaty pregnant lady. We set up a grueling game of Scrabble in the parlor and handed out Halloween candy to the hoards of tricker treaters, and that was good enough for us!

November 2016

-voted, hoped for the best, found out the WORST, mourned for an entire day and then decided for the sake of my son that I couldn’t perseverate over the sadness. Also: pulled out my Happy Light that I hadn’t used since 2009 and started using it every morning!

The latest Mandala painting, fully glittered. Now I just have to decide if it's really "done", or just done because I'm sick of working on it! 😝
Finally finished this friggin’ Mandala painting, although I’m not totally satisfied with it and therefore haven’t listed it in my shop.

Four pregnant bellies all in a row, all due with boys early next year.
My cousin Erika comes to town and throws me the most fantastic baby shower at Brenna’s house, and still hasn’t sent me the pictures for it! Ha ha. I wonder if I’ll ever get them?

Delicious Indian dinner with family and friends.
My mother, aunt Claire, and cousin Katie also came into town for the shower. It was really wonderful. I felt very loved. And thank God, nobody brought up politics the entire time.

Lisa, who has been one of my good friends for almost 20 years, and her three goofy/adorable children.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, a drive to Spokane, and baby shower number two (I’m terribly spoiled), Josh and I got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning from a local taco truck. We barely managed to scrape ourselves together to make the drive, but I’m glad we did. We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with both sets of our parents and his grandmother, and then the next day I had another sweet baby shower and saw my ooooooold friend Lisa and all of her children! Maw.

My parents trying to feel their grandson kick. I was told this week he's measuring in the 92nd percentile. Already an overachiever! πŸ˜…
Love this picture of my parents trying to coax a kick from the baby.

December 2016

– finished up a painting for Baby M.’s room (this is when the link between Instagram and Flickr shit the bed, so I don’t have a picture)

– Josh and I spend my birthday/”Babymoon” at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle, relaxing and eating lots of things

– Josh gets heavily into glitter beards, and I support him!

– Owen invites me to participate in his annual art show, but I am too big and pregnant so we just attend the show instead and stay for an hour and a half. Still Good Times!

– Josh does up an elaborate glitter/tiny Christmas light beard, I wear a muumuu and we wrap me in Christmas bulbs, and we take our Christmas card picture!

Glittered up for Brenna's solstice party tonight. ✨
Winter Solstice party at Brenna’s house.

Josh and my Broad at grandma's tonight. ❀️❀️
I am too pregnant to travel, so we do Christmas Eve at Grandma Shirley’s, with the Broad…

Unicorn Snot! (with photobomb by Ronia) ✨🌟✨
…and the next day, we do Christmas Day at our house. Josh’s parents, sister and sister’s family all came over and we feasted on lasagna that I had made the day before, exchanged presents, and had a nice time. Our first Christmas at our house, and our last Christmas before the baby comes!

And that brings us up to date, blog logs! Stay tuned later this week and I’ll let you know how we PARTIED DOWN for New Years Eve, bwa ha haaaaa. 2016: you were one interesting year. I refuse to do what so many people on the Internet are doing, which is write-off the ENTIRE YEAR as crap, because this was the year that I finally got pregnant after 6 years of nonsense and there is no replicating that bliss. I can’t wait for 2017!

The Big Ol’ Recap

The Big Ol’ Recap

Heyyo! Happy end of 2015! It’s that special time of year when I spend an hour or so reviewing just what exactly it was that I spent the last year doing…or at least, what I SAID I did on my blog. Heh heh heh.

January

Had my tri-annual haircut today from my favorite stylist.
Tri-annual haircut from Erika…always a pleasure.

shaved back
I had her do something I should have been doing for years: shaved the nape of my neck, where I always grow these awful wispy hairs that I pull on. No more wisps!

Kissy and Lizzy
Kissyfur visits and we all go out to see Dame Edna! Hooray! Totally worth it.

I finally have an easel like a "real" painter! Score! 🎨
I paint with my new easel like a “real” artist! Or maybe…an artist with better posture. Heh.

February

Made these two little skirts last night.
Made these cute little corduroy skirts.

Glamming up. πŸ’–
Got some highlights from Erika! What kind of weirdo gets highlights in winter? THIS ONE.

I decided a few weeks ago to quit 1 of my 2 jobs. Today was my last day at 1 of the jobs, and here I am sitting on my boss's desk, pouting. Change is hard sometimes.
Quit one of my two jobs. At the time I was kind of bummed, but I’m glad I did.

fancy stump
We visited Mukilteo for the first time.

Say hello to my little friend. πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’™
Met this dude! Bah ha ha.

lovely ladies
Housewarming party!

March
NOT MUCH. Seriously.

April

the Butchart Gardens
Joshy and I go to Victoria BC and visit the beautiful Butchart Gardens! Can you even believe how gorgeous this is?

Birthday boy with his "Violet Martini". I was so disappointed that it didn't match his shirt.🍸
Fancy dinner out for Josh’s birthday.

Joshy at Pike Place. We bought salmon and some gorgeous produce.
A visit to Pike Place Market (always a good time).

May

My first mandala painting. I inked the design on the canvas so I can fill it in like a coloring book (very satisfying).
I start my very first Mandala painting! Incidentally, I started noticing this year a HUGE trend for adult coloring books–for Mandalas. Gee, I’m such a trend setter.

My Couch to 5K training grounds 🌲
I begin running at the park with the girls every other day. First I did a couch to 5K program, then a 10K, and eventually I trained for a half marathon.

June

Horizontal camping!
This year was so unusually hot, we were able to start camping in June! Yes!

Lizzy and Joshy
Josh’s cousin Chris and Hailey’s wedding.

Mom and Josh at Anthony's in Everett. YUM. 🐠
My parents come over for a visit and see the new house for the first time. We eat good food, and even drive to Whidbey Island.

Lizzy art II
I do another art show for RAW artists! They love me. This is my third show with them.

s and s at pike place market
Stewart and Stephanie come for a visit on their way to Hawaii, and we take them to Pike Place Market. I saw the gum wall for the first time!

July

teal and green
Camping trip number two, this time to Hyas Lake, one of my favorite spots. Isn’t it beautiful?

I rescued this sad Betta fish from work. I've rescued a Betta before, and Seymour lived a long time, so I think of myself as the "Betta Whisperer". I named this guy Angus. I just ordered him a "hammock" shaped like a leaf and I'm excited about it!
I rescue Angus, a sad Betta fish, from work. He’s doing great!

rainbow mandala 1
I finish this rainbow Mandala, and sell it! Woo hoo!

Flushed and sweaty, hiking in 85-degree July heat. And Josh's uncle says hiking isn't a "sport". Ha! (tell that to my calves today)
We hike up Tiger Mountain (in 85 degree heat) to watch Mike paraglide down.

Home renovation weekend: pulling up carpet smelling of cat piss from the previous owners and replacing it with laminate. I feel very "grown up" 🏑
Our first major home renovation project: pulling up the cat-piss stinky carpet left from the previous owners in the living room and replacing it with laminate.

nature poser
Our infamous hike to Snow Lake, where my iphone takes a dip in the water by mistake. They don’t like that.

August

on the pier
We celebrate our 7th anniversary.

Metallic Mandala on wall
I finish up this dude.

Liz and Josh and the Seven Year Itch
We REALLY celebrate our anniversary a couple weeks later, dressing up and watching the movie and everything. Good times!

pre Bubble run faces
The Bubble Run 5K. Boy do I look orange!

Maggie takes in some nature
Day hike to Lake 22!

puppy love
My annual visit to Boise, this time with a new puppy who chewed on me the entire time.

September

trail start
Camping with Mike at Glacier Lake! Not the first time I’ve been snowed on during a summer camping trip either, mind you. Although last time I was on mushrooms! Ha ha! Memories are fun.

Maggie on guard
Final camping trip at our old stand-by, near Cle Elum. Bliss.

J and L on the Rainbow Bridge
We fly to NYC! My first time. So wonderful. I wanted to go back immediately.

October

post run triumphant faces
I complete my very first half marathon! I spent months training for it. Totally tolerable at the time…but then two and a half weeks of the WORST foot pain afterwards, during which time I became very bitter. I have bought myself some extremely expensive running shoes and plan on getting back to it real soon.

Re-united with my Number One Gay (Bear Cub puts up with a lot). πŸŒˆπŸ’šπŸŒŸ
Kissy came back into town to dogsit for us during New York, then we had some Good Times afterwards.

Blue again! πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™
He also dyed Josh’s hair, and we’ve been dying it fun colors ever since.

Happy Halloween! πŸŽƒπŸ‘»πŸ’€
We dressed up as the Countess and Donovan from “American Horror Story” for Christmas, and entertain hordes of trick-or-treaters on our doorstep, a fun change from our last house. I was thankful we didn’t throw a party–crippled with cramps with a tight white dress! Boo, indeed!

November

floral 1
Another Mandala painting complete! I could kick myself for forgetting to display it in the art show this month. Not that it would have sold, heh heh sigh.

Thanksgiving dinner success!
Thanksgiving at grandma’s house. Jsoh embarked on a diet soon after this, and he’s actually been sticking with it.Β

December

Oh yeah baby ☁️☁️☁️
We celebrate my birthday at a really posh hotel downtown, followed by Moroccan dinner. Mmmmm.

Tonight Joshy bought a chunk of art.
I participate in Owen’s annual art show downtown. Josh purchases a hunk of art from this dude.

Frances surrounded by her grandchildren (and a few great-grandchildren).
We spent Christmas Eve with one half of Josh’s family, Christmas morning by ourselves, and the rest of Christmas with the other half of his family! Plus his grandmother’s 90th birthday party. AND A LOT OF COOKIES, FLEETA.

Looking back it seems as though 2015 was a pretty damn good year. I have a steady job, nice house (finally), no major stress…everything has fallen nicely into place to make 2016 the year of ROBO BABY! Feel free to offer male baby names in the comments. See ya next year!

Friday Instagram Superpost

Friday Instagram Superpost

Hey buddies. I thought I’d kick off Labor Day weekend with an INSTAGRAM SUPERPOST! ie, posting all of the IG photos I’ve taken over the past few weeks so I can, um, move on with my life.

Mother and daughter Butter Pecan Flavor Burst Good Times! 🍦🍦

How did I forget to post this picture of Mom and I during my Boise chronicles? It’s one of my favorites from the entire trip! Sitting outside Delsa’s with butter pecan Flavor Burst cones (note the size of mine compared to hers, bwa ha haaaaaaa).

“Did you whiten my teeth?” she asked me when she saw this photo.

“Yep!” I do that, you know. Free of charge. ‘Cause I care.

...and Wild Animal Number Two, as well! Have you hugged your dog today? πŸ’•

Bear Schnubs and I at the dogpark yesterday.

TGIF! I'll be spending my weekend with Wild Animal Number 1...

She cuddled up to me while I threw the ball for this wild animal.Β

Turns out this polyester dress I've owned for __ years is perfect for #gameday (I don't watch the game but I care about the emotional stability of those around me ha haaaa). πŸ’šπŸ’™
Yesterday’s work outfit, minus the short-sleeved cardigan I wore over the top. It was a Seahawks game day, and as it turns out, this polyester green and blue dress I bought 10,000 years ago has Seahawks colors, delighting most of my patients, who are fans.

My new glasses. Can you tell I'm a fan of Dame Edna?! πŸ‘“

My new, ridiculous glasses from Zenni that only set me back 30 clams (well, 30 for the frames at any rate). I’ve always wanted cat-eye glasses and when I saw these online, they just screamed LIZ BUY ME and who could resist? So Dame Edna!

It’s official,” Christopher texted to me when I sent him this picture. “You REALLY are a fag!

Thank you,” I replied.

We finally agreed on a color: chartreuse! πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’š

After smearing 8 different shades of green on the office walls, Josh and I finally came to an agreement on chartreuse. Hurrah!

I was kinda critical of the previous owners' painting job until Josh and I re-painted the office. Ha!

Whoops! Apparently even using painter’s tape doesn’t guarantee a clean edge. Well, it WAS my first time ever painting an entire room, I expected mistakes. In fact, that’s why I wanted to paint the office first, because it’s a room that neither one of us care too much about.Β

Bear Cub does not enjoy riding in the car. πŸ‘Ž

Josh brought the girls to the airport to pick me up on Sunday. Here’s Bear Cub looking supremely uncomfortable on the drive home. Poor little Cub!

Little Fluffy Clouds ☁️

Yesterday at the dog park I had the unique experience of having both sunshine piercing my eyeballs AND little droplets of rain showering on my head. No rainbow though. Harrumph.

Testing kitchen paint colors last night while listening to the Die Antwoord Pandora station. The letters match the color names. Which one is your fave? πŸ’™

The current state of the kitchen. Josh talked me into choosing two colors, so we are going with A (Art Deco Dreams) for the main kitchen color and P (Dip in the Pool) for the dining room. Mmmm, aquaaaaa.

Recent important additions to our cd collection 🐢

Recent important additions to our c.d. collection. I can listen to this song a LOT before I get sick of it.Β

Hooray! "How to Get Dressed" by one of my fave @xojanedotcom writers, @alisonfreer arrived! Already I'm loving the chapter on laundry (and relieved that I'm doing it mostly right) ✨

I’d had this book in my wish list for a long time and went ahead and ordered it recently. I was relieved while reading the chapter on laundry to discover that I’m doing it mostly right! Mostly.

Oh Baddiewinkle! βœ¨πŸ’šβœ¨

Not into Baddie Winkle yet? You should be! She basically has my dream wardrobe.

Hangin' with my homies. 🎾

Celebrating National Dog Day with a couple of dogs.

Hmmmm...πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰

Surprisingly tasty!

1985?! This chick looks like a modern-day hipster.

Hey nostalgic weirdos (like myself), did you know that Old School episodes of “Reading Rainbow” are on Netflix? I couldn’t believe this chick from the first episode (1985!), looking exactly like a modern-day hipster. The more things change, eh?

Recovering from a root canal, and the dogs are being very sweet. πŸ’›

Last Monday, root canal day. Being comforted by Schnubs.

With my Birthday Broad, @corinne_spoja πŸ’–πŸ’•βœ¨

Did I ever blog about The Broad’s birthday dinner? I feel like the answer is yes, and yet–I don’t remember posting this picture. I offered up “The Crab Cracker” in Kirkland as a possible dinner option, and she went for it. Here we are after stuffing our faces.

Celebrating the beautiful busty @corinne_spoja's b-day tonight with creme brûlée 😍

My Broad enjoying her birthday creme brulee. Josh and I split a piece of coconut creme pie with Lorna Doone crust that was incredible. Let’s face it, I’m basically only dieting now so I can eat my way through New York. Makes sense, rrrrrright?

βœ¨πŸ’šβœ¨

A little green-spiration at “Display & Costume” a few weeks ago.

Oof! That blog entry ended up taking a whole lot longer than planned due to about 42395482942534 different distractions. How do writers do it? REAL writers I mean. If you find out, let me know.

Boise Day 3: A little shopping, sweetie darling

Boise Day 3: A little shopping, sweetie darling

What’s goin’ on, blog? It’s all windy and rainy and crazy outside so I’m ignoring the dogs (sigh) (not really) and hankering on down to blog Day 3 of my Boise trip.

morning with dog on top

Day 3 starts out the way Day 2 ended, with Lucy right on top of me! She was actually draped around my shoulders as I sat on the couch, like a living dog stole. Maggie used to do the SAME THING.

colorful overgrowth

Friday morning my mother wasn’t feeling like working out, so instead of going to the gym by myself I opted to do my 4 mile training run around nearby neighborhoods. This was a more scenic option anyway, since I brought along my iphone and could snap pictures of all the pretty-pretties.

clever use of old skis

This clever use of old skis made me think of Joshy.

amazing neon pink rose

No filters here! This neon pink rose really looked that gorgeous. And smelled heavenly.

I returned home and showered off my soaking-with-run-sweat body (not a bad kind of sweat) and then Mom and I drove to one of my all-time favorite pilgrimages every time I visit Boise, “Eyes of the World”!

cool sun mirror

I really don’t enjoy shopping very often, but I will always love hippie clothes and I will always love jewelry and this place has both in abundance. I also love their dressing rooms. Look at this cool mirror! (that dress on the other hand, meh)

blending into your surroundings

Eight dresses later, ding ding ding! We have a winner! I also bought a cute teal tank top that I was afraid to wear in Boise since Lucy put holes in my workout pants and my Grateful Dead tee-shirt. I wasn’t about to take a chance.

watermelon tourmaline ring

“Watermelon Tourmaline” ring in the shape of a watermelon COME ON. I would have bought it…if the price tag wasn’t 120 bucks.

DoD display

I did buy one of these little DoD wristlets though, because I am a sucker. Guess which one.

Larimar is nice

Larimar sure is dreamy. “Dissolves fear”–yes please. I’ll just chuck it at the spiders hanging all over my house, bwa ha.

Ethiopian fire opal strands

The strands of Ethiopian fire opals really made us gasp and me snivel. At 325 dollars per strand though, another hard “nope“. Sigghhhhhh…

fire opal ring

Fire opals are so beautiful!

good advice maybe

Bah ha ha. Good advice?

yes

Better advice, and YEAH.

Lucy and Mumsie

I drove my father to the airport that morning for his annual Dude Week in Southern California. He promptly got food poisoning and spent hours vomiting. Poor Dad! After “Eyes of the World”, I talked my mother into taking me to Fanci Freeze for a butterscotch-dipped cone. Mmmmmm.

the little nipper is a lap dog

The Little Nipper chewing on a rawhide while laying on top of me. She was really interested in chewing on that necklace, too.Β

blue apatite ring

I went with “Blue Apatite” for my ring. Isn’t it pretty? My mother remarked that I’m in a “teal” phase. TRUE. Probably for life.

yummy hand cream

I was fully prepared to steal this lotion from my parents until I noticed that it exceeded the 3.4 ounces allowed to carry on a flight. DAMMIT! I might have to order some myself. SO good.

Mumsie and I feasted on salmon and broccoli for dinner, the Little Nipper feasted on my arm and ankle flesh, and that was all of Day 3! RIVETING I KNOW. Join me later for Day 4 and 5, if you daaaaaare…

Puppy Paradise in Boise, day 1 and 2

Puppy Paradise in Boise, day 1 and 2

Hey blog heyyyyy. I can’t believe I’m sitting here in the office in FLEECE JAMMIES IN AUGUST blogging, but the weather in Seattle has suddenly taken a nosedive towards cold and here we are.

Guess where it wasn’t cold? Boise, where I visited last week! Let’s explore the first 1.5 days of my trip.

flying over Mount Hood

Taken via the window seat, which I always opt for. Mount Hood! With a little saturation added, you understand. The window was filthy (nice work, Delta airlines).

my bruddah

My father picked me up from the airport Wednesday afternoon, and after a quick detour to the house to meet the Little Nipper, we were off to the Olive Garden (not my choice) to meet up with my brother and his wife for dinner. My brother was wearing a snazzy Hawaiian shirt that he bought in Hawaii, so I took a picture.

first sunset

The sunset on the drive home was beautiful.

Baby Lucy

The Little Nipper! Her name is Lucy, she’s a little over 3 months old, and she basically just wants to chew on things all day long, except for when she’s sleeping. It’s like Maggie dog allll over again. She’s half Lab, half border collie, and black and white, just like Maggie dog. Lucy’s favorite thing to chew on is human flesh.

little miss chewy chomp

Also little rawhide sticks, peanut-butter filled Kongs (a great 10 minute diversion), flesh, did I mention flesh?

Lucy at the window

When she wasn’t causing me bodily harm, we had a great time together. I brought my parents two puppy training books, a magazine about training Labs and the first season of “The Dog Whisperer”…for their own good.

Lucy and the dog bed

Lucy trying to figure out this whole “dog bed” idea.

the cutest

Impossible to stay mad at this little face!

L & L outside

The next morning Lucy and my mother and I went for a walk. It was probably already close to 90 degrees outside when my mother took this picture. GROSS, IDAHO!

puppy love

“Who’s a little girl? Huh? Huh? Huh? Oharggswgshsfffff…”

Lucy finds a stick

Thursday was pretty uneventful. Lucy and I hung out with Mom until she left for work, and then later when my father came home Lucy and I hung out with him.

old Lizzy DIY tops

I managed to get a little organizing of my old bedroom done in between Lucy attacking my ankles. I found a bunch of old DIY hippe/raver tops that I made sloppily but still have a hard time throwing out.

Lucy is pouting

Lucy’s face when I’m not paying attention to her. Total Maggie dog face!

Santa and Lucy

Santa and Lucy. My father and I went to Qdoba for dinner, and when I told him how many calories were in theirΒ cheese quesadilla he got mad and said I “ruined” it for him and then ordered a tortilla-less burrito instead. Love! Sorry buddy but those quesadillas were ruined for me a long time ago: LOOK.

Lucy is watching the dog whisperer

Later on, we watched “The Dog Whisperer”–Lucy included! It was the cutest thing EVER. I could never get Maggie and Bear Cub to watch movies with me.

gorgeous orange flowers

Post-dinner walk with Lucy. These flowers draped over a neighbor’s fence were absolutely gorgeous. I wonder what they are?

neon flowers

Stunning! Too bad Instagram couldn’t help me with identification this time.

butter pecan at Delsas

After carb-shaming (I mean instructing) my father, I nevertheless talked him into going to Delsa’s with me so I could get one of my beloved butter pecan “Flavor Burst” cones. Mmmmmm. Never gets old.

I also talked him into driving to us my old high school (which in my mind was a lot further away), but it was all covered with construction barriers and very anti-climactic, and not at all nostalgic. Heigh ho.

Liz and Lucy are BFFs
More puppy nonsense to come! I’m gonna draaaaaaag this thing out!

Yo all you homeboys out in Bronx, this one’s for you!

Yo all you homeboys out in Bronx, this one’s for you!

Water Cub surveys the scene πŸ’¦How goes it, blog? The ranimals and I just hoofed it over to the park for a brief walk while I had nice long gay phone conversation with Christopher. He’s coming up next month to dogsit while Joshy and I are in New Yawk and we are trying to figure out exact dates.

Fresh eyelash extensions πŸ’

My eyelashes look nice again, but the damage is already done: I went to my eye doctor yesterday and she confirmed that yes, sure enough, the girl that did the HORRIBLE job on my lashes last month gave me an eye infection, called a “chalazion” (not to be confused with calzone). It’s a little bump under my left eyelid. I noticed it a couple weeks ago, took another few days before I was brave enough to Google it, and did what the Internet suggested I do (warm compresses throughout the day). Apparently these little bastards go away on their own.

I have also been getting a lot of headaches lately, and I was concerned that the bump under my eyelid was somehow causing those, but they don’t appear to be related. I suspect I have some sort of weird seasonal allergies. I’ve been taking nasal decongestant for the last few days and the headaches are better. The chalazion is getting smaller too, I think. I hope!

I’ve been debating on whether or not to let the owner of the lash place where I had my lashes done so poorly know about the eye infection. I’m leaning towards YES. Shouldn’t she know? She should know.

Last night's viewing: "Batman" circa 1989. We hadn't seen it in years. Jack 100% steals the movie. I swooned over Kim Basinger the entire time πŸ’–Ohhhhh it was a real happenin‘ Friday night ’round here, let me tell ya, with my eyelid bump and headache and meh and merrrrrr. We laid on the couch, ingesting Fudgesicles and watching “Batman”, circa 1989. Jack Nicholson steals the entire movie, and I oohed and aahed over Kim Basinger’s beauty. Josh doesn’t see what all the fuss is about–he doesn’t think she’s beautiful at all. I keep telling him that he needs to re-watch “My Stepmother is an Alien” and then get back to me about her beauty:

Just start at the 3 minute mark. SO HOT! When that movie came out I was so young my mother forbid me to watch that scene. I just waited until she was out of the house (or room, more likely) and watched it, ha ha Mom!

Free lunch on our walk today πŸ’š

Free fruit snacks during our dogwalk at the park. Mmmmmmm.

Cuuute! 😎

This adorable VW was right in front of us when we were driving around this weekend doing errands. Love the sunglasses!

You know how it is. 🌈

We stopped by “Display & Costume” so I could pick up Corinne a few birthday prezzies–her birthday is next Tuesday. 26! So fresh. I couldn’t resist buying myself these unicorn band-aids, since I seem to be hurting myself a lot lately.

I had a nice view on our 5 mile run this morning πŸ‘

Sunday morning the whole fam went for a 5 mile run. Nice view!

Re-post from @djmagicelf. This morning I cut my ancient Bob Marley t-shirt into a muscle shirt. I'm in training for our upcoming vacation, grrrr! πŸ’ͺ

I cracked open our “donation” box and, a’la Fleeta, started removing items from it–and one of the items that Josh had added was my ancient Bob Marley t-shirt. I bought it during my first trip to Seattle, with Nico, back in 2003, and the armpits were full of holes. I merely chopped off the sleeves and voila! A “muscle” shirt! For all of those muscles that I WANT SO BADLY.

4 possible green paints for the office walls. Which one do you like best? πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

We decided, now that the cat-piss-carpet-project is complete, that it would be fun to start painting rooms, so we’re beginning with a room that is not that crucial, the “office”. We narrowed our paint choices down to 4 different greens, and they are currently smeared haphazardly all over the room. I think we have further narrowed it down to 2 choices: the lime-ish hues. The mint ones remind us too much of hospitals.

Free wildflower seeds came in the mail, so I planted them. This is what emerged πŸ’œ

I planted some free wildflower seeds that came in the mail, and these flowers popped up. They are beautiful, and I have no idea what they are.

Our rhubarb plant really is the gift that keeps on giving. πŸ’š

Meanwhile, the rhubarb is still going strong.

Bought myself this "Speed Kills" t-shirt b/c it represents my running philosophy. 🐒

I bought myself this happy little “SPEED KILLS” t-shirt to use during training sessions for the half-marathon, because my entire running philosophy is all about going slooooooow. Like a turtle.

Portrait of a dog begging for snacks: Maggie.

Maggie dog begging for almonds. Apparently almonds are bad for dogs too, I learned after feeding them both almonds recently. D’oh.Β

Portrait of a dog begging for snacks: Bear Cub.

I mean gee whiz, who can keep track? I should probably print out a list of foods that are bad for dogfriends and keep it prominently in the kitchen, since it seems to keep growing.

Alriiiight. Time to finish my coffee and go for a 4-miler. Then I’m going to blow up that inflatable pool I bought a month ago and fill it with water! It’s finally hot enough again to use it. Sheesh, I was beginnning to think that summer was over, or something.

Deee-Lite is always right

Deee-Lite is always right

Maggie in the river

You can move

You can groove

You can mind melt

Boulder River

Perpetual bloom

Boulder River and Bear

You can sing on the curves

Of all minds perfect rings

Come around come around

I hear what you say come around

BC in the river

The temple of my mind

So clear so clear

Resounding no fear

Summer breeze, summer trees πŸƒ

Happy Thursday hey-that-means-it’s-almost-Friday, blerg. That was a little Deee-Lite for your nerves.

Josh's parents bought him this newsboy's cap in Scotland. It's too large for his head, but fits my big ol' skull just fine...

Josh’s parents went to Scotland and brought him back this newsboy’s cap, which is too large for his tiny head but fits my massive skull just fiiiiiine. Freshly oranged-up with a fake tan, crippled with cramps, wearing a wool hat in August. Ooh baby ooooh.

Strawberries are growing in our backyard...with minimal effort from us! Yeah! πŸ“

Behold: the ONE and ONLY strawberry growing in our backyard! Well, since we have made 0% effort to encourage the strawberry plants (under the deck), I suppose I should be grateful for one strawberry, huh? I wonder if I’ll be able to eat it before some random animal does?

Well, here we go again. Note to self: do NOT swim with iPhone!

For 150 clams, Apple sent me a new iPhone. I bought another 5S, I have no interest in a 6. I do not require the latest and greatest device…just something that makes phone calls and takes decent pictures. And has emoticons! You know I love me some emoticons!

Wet pets on hot days πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’¦

We did more of this today…down by the river. Currently I’m icing the bottoms of my feet in preparation for a run and chugging iced coffee.

Bear Cub is my watchdog (she also looks good with bangs).

Having a little outdoor Bear Cub therapy after work yesterday. Yesterday was so hot and humid (well, 58% humidity, that seemed high to me) that all of my patients and seemingly all of my co-workers were in terrible moods and it rubbed off onto me, dammit. I had to get outside and then look at some puppy pictures and then I felt 47.8% better.

Found an old favorite while cleaning out the make-up case today πŸ‡

Yesterday while cleaning out my make-up case just for “fun” I found an ancient Rachel Perry lipgloss. Heaven forbid I throw it out! Sighhhh, Rachel Perry always reminds me of Good Times.

"Self-portrait with Grapes", 2008. My Aunt Lisa has wanted this painting for years, and I'm finally mailing it to her! #procrastination: a celebration.

My Aunt Lisa expressed an interest in “Self-Portrait with Grapes” for so long, tomorrow I am finally shipping it to her. Hooray! Another painting is leaving my home!

This just came in the mail...because even Delia's knows that I'm still 15 (mentally).

Delia’s dramatically went out of business last year and then BAM came back! I received this catalog in the mail today. Maybe I’ll have a flip-through. I don’t mind buying cheap shirts from companies like Delia’s, but…no more cheap shoes! I think I may have finally learned my lesson, there. Maybe.

Bonus: here’s a little video of our hike last Saturday, when poor Josh had flu symptoms and I had a wet iphone but Maggie and Bear Schnubs had a great time getting wet. Hooray!
