All I wanna do is have some fun

All I wanna do is have some fun

Our first outing with the baby at Marymoor Park was foiled by losing Maggie! Luckily a nice lady from Portland found her and called me on my cellphone before we started to REALLY panic. Friggin' dogs!
Howdy blog! This was last Sunday, a beautiful sunny day and what SHOULD have been a lovely relaxing family outing to Marymoor Park…foiled because we LOST MAGGIE. It happened pretty quickly after we got to the park. Both dogs pooped at the same time, I was bending over to pick up Bear Cub’s poop and Josh and I noticed that Maggie was gone. No big deal, she usually runs ahead of us to the water, so we went to the water…and still no Maggie. We ended up splitting up and walking all over the park searching for her. The baby was fussing on and off and my plantar fasciitis was rearin’ up and I was just starting to verge on panic (or at least, anxiety) when my cell phone rang and it was a nice lady from Portland who had found Maggie wandering around in the parking lot! I gave her a huge hug and thanked her repeatedly and then WE LEFT BECAUSE THE PARK TRIP WAS RUINED, THANKS A LOT MAGGIE.

πŸ’™πŸ’™
It was the first time in 11 years I had lost her, not a bad track record. Still, never expected to lose Maggie. Bear Cub, sure, she’s an independent Cub. Thank God for nice ladies from Portland.

I have this thing for Jemaine Clement. ❀
Crushing on Jemaine Clement as a vampire in “What We Do in the Shadows”. A cute little mockumentary about vampires.

My Erte notebook is pretty pretty. 🌟
Isn’t the Erte design on this notebook gorgeous? Josh bought this for me. It contains many sketches by me of his butt. You understand.

Anyone have suggestions on how I can polish this metal tree without screwing it up? ✨
This metal tree needs polishing, but I’m scared to ruin it. What should I use?

Sweet little spring daffodils. πŸ’›
Here come the daffodils! I love this time of year.

The elusive rainbow unicorn! 🌈🌈🌈
I was VERY excited to put the rainbow unicorn onesie on him! Too bad all of his 3 month clothes baaaarely fit, my little chunk! Sigh.

Don't know who Zendaya is, but I'm really into this outfit. 🌟
I am inexplicably drawn to this outfit. I think it’s the combination of seersucker + big pants…I love both of those things. Once a raver, always a raver.

Love these grape hyacinth. πŸ’œ
Here’s what my baby week has entailed: lots of breastfeeding. Still pumping one bottle a day for Josh to give him at night (more like 4 in the morning). He is sleeping from 10-3 or 4, and then until 6, and then usually has a nap at 10/11 and another one at 3/4 in the afternoon. He smiles a lot, coos and says “Ah-Goo”. My nickname for him right now is Goo. He is sooooo cute, it hurts. He’s starting to look at the dogs, which I love.

Current workstation (not pictured: a fine coating of glitter on everything ✨).
Here’s what my non-baby week has entailed: finished my first little dollhouse painting, now I’m just decorating the easel and it’s going up for sale in my Etsy shop. Became super annoyed with the Joan Crawford painting and painted over it, OOPS! Try try again. Watching a lot of “Sex and the City” in the afternoons. Walking the dogs and sometimes the baby every day. Occasionally lifting weights (okay once this week). Went clothes shopping for the first time, post-partum, and was very humbled by the experience. Texted my cousin Erika to tell her about this experience, and she told me that she’s pregnant again! With another boy! We are meant to be boy moms.

Anyone lose a big white exercise ball? πŸ˜‚
Look it’s a white stability ball in the middle of a marsh! How bizarre.

I like neons in the springtime (ok I like neons ALL of the time πŸ’–).
C’est moi, yesterday, in one of my new larger shirts to accommodate my new giant boobs. Hooray for neon!

It was all yellow.
Expect a lot of flower pictures over the next few months.

Hope your Friday is out of this world! πŸ‘½
That brings us around to today, in his cute little alien outfit! I was SO looking forward to this outfit, and now he barely fits into it! Good grief, we’re gonna be in 6 month outfits sooner than I thought. Happy Spring, blog-logs!

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Josh shows off new exciting uses for chip clips.
Hellerrr, blerrrrg. The baby is down for a nap, Josh is doing yardwork and I just remembered during my pumping session that I didn’t blog this week. Roops! Here’s Josh showing off exciting new hairstyles using chip clips.

Back at the gym this morning for the 1st time since baby arrived. You gotta start somewhere! πŸ’ͺ
Look it’s me! Back at the gym for the first time last weekend, and it felt so gooood. I also went yesterday after breakfast. I’m still on the bicycle for cardio and haven’t graduated back to the treadmill or elliptical (stupid plantar fasciitis), but at least I’m on Level 6 instead of my pregnancy Level 2. Progress!

Here come the crocuses in the front yard. πŸ’œπŸ’›
Tomorrow is the first day of spring hooray! My favorite season. Today is the only sunny day forecasted this week so the whole fam is going out for a sunny park trip sometime this afternoon.

Crocuses in the backyard. πŸ’œ
I love these purple and white crocuses in the backyard.

Father and son. πŸ’™
Ohhh these cuties. Baby M. will finish his 9th week of life and start his 10th on Tuesday. He smiles and coos and says “Ah-Goo” and I love him so much, it’s ridiculous.

Soggy Sunday! πŸ’¦
Lots of wet, muddy walks this week. One day I made the mistake of wearing the barefoot Brooks that are partly mesh and they got SOAKED, all through my socks. Made for a squishy walk but I still did a mile.

Had a Broad date today--we painted our nails, pet kitties, and then I watched her hoop in her underwear. Score!
Last Sunday I pumped an extra bottle so that I could go see my Broad for a Broad Date. We painted our nails with her expensive Jamberry polish, pet kitties, and then she stripped down to her underwear and showed off her hooping skills. She hoops every day now for at least an hour! I’m so proud of her. Made me want to dust off my own hoop…sometime.

Enjoying a little silver glitter on my nails before they start to chip in 3...2...
I hadn’t painted my nails in months. I like glitter polish because it camouflages chips the best. Also: because glitter.

The subject of my first mini painting is Louise Brooks, of course! I've painted her 4 times and I'm not bored yet. (top left is still for sale, btw)
For my first mini painting I went with an old favorite, Louise Brooks!

Starting the Lulu mini painting.
Initial stages of the Lulu painting. I’m at the glitter stage, presently.

Babies make you better multitaskers--here's Josh drawing and holding his son at the same time. πŸ’•
I’m not the only one creating art around here. Here’s Joshy multitasking–drawing and holding his son at the same time. Talent!

πŸ’•
I hope Baby M. is an artist too.

Bear Cub is relaxed.
Bear Cub, relaxed. She’s currently snoring at my feet as I type this.

Josh's snowflake/disco ball decoration in the kitchen. "Do we get to take the snowflakes down in five days when winter is over?" I asked him yesterday. (Side note: YAY SPRING)
Josh’s disco ball and snowflake decorations in the kitchen, which I’m planning on taking down tomorrow. Down with the snow! Up with the flowers!

Finally--a rain break!
I’m currently attempting to read a biography of Marilyn (and failing). We’ve been re-watching “Deadwood” at night…it’s even better the second time around. It’s a shame it only lasted three seasons. Seems like all the shows we like best don’t last.

Hey! "Aqua Floral Mandala" is still for sale. 🌸🌼🌸
I was downstairs painting and my pink turban caught my eye, all neglected on a wig head, so I thought I had better take care of it! It still had the price tag on it from our trip to NYC, how sad! After I posted this picture on IG, my old old old olllld blogfriend Laila offered to buy the Mandala! Woo hoo!

Today was nice. 🌞
Not right away, but sometime this year. Which is fine by me…it’s not like my paintings are going anywhere, any time soon. This past week would have been the RAW show that I was asked to join, and I wanted to, I really did…but maybe when Baby M. is a little older. I am still breastfeeding a LOT at this point.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’š
Friday was St. Patrick’s Day, and it was Josh’s idea to dress M. up in this swaddle blanket wrapped as a tiny kilt! I DIE! I had dressed up as well to get in the picture, but we were lucky to get one photo where he was not crying/screaming.

Maggie dog says "Rappy Raint Ratrick's Ray!" Turns out elder dogs are easier to pose than babies. πŸ€πŸ€
Maggie on the other hand, was comparatively easy to pose. My elder dog!

First baby date! All boys, all adorable.
Friday afternoon Baby M. and I had our very first solo outing in the car together…all the way to Bellevue! It took us only 36 minutes to drive there but a whopping hour and ten minutes to drive home, thanks to rain (groan) (there’s always rain, come on people) and gross Friday afternoon traffic. I met up with two ladies I had met through my fertility clinic and their beautiful baby boys.

“Our son looks like a tank,” remarked Josh when he saw the photos.

@espedp laid out a beautiful spread for our baby date yesterday--croissants, cream cheese and fresh fruit. Too bad we had to eat in shifts! πŸ˜‚
A lovely lunch was laid out–but we spent most of the time walking/burping/feeding/changing our babies. I did manage to shove a couple of cream cheese slathered mini croissants and fresh fruit into my maw in between caring for my son. Who sits down and eats at a normal pace with a newborn?! It’s not possible.

Swamp Cub! πŸ’¦
The drive gave me a lot more confidence about traveling with my son in the future. It can be done! He gets a little fussy at stoplights, but not a peep while we’re on the freeway. Phewwwwww.

Today's dogwalk required Wellies. β˜”οΈ
Yesterday’s dogwalk was REALLY rainy. I’m looking forward to getting out in the sun today! Let’s go!

Little boxes made of ticky tacky

Happy Friday! Is there a more perfect comfort food than a grilled cheese sandwich? 😍
Howdy blog! If this is a Good Nap Day, I estimate that I have 30 minutes to write this blog entry. Let’s see what happens! Last week I decided the last of the bread left by our houseguests needed to be eaten in the form of a grilled cheese sannie…or three! The ultimate comfort food. Mmmm.

Ohhhh it's a happenin' Friday night 'round here.
One week ago today. A typical Friday night for new parents. We have a new bedtime routine…ice cream and Sleepytime tea around 8:30 pm, which is when I kick off my three rounds of breastfeeding. We’ve done that for most of this week and he has slept GREAT–now he only wakes up twice, once for a Josh feeding at 2-ish and once for a Liz feeding at 5-6-ish. Then if I’m really lucky, he might let me sleep until 8–but not the last two days.

Maggie dog is always up for a game of fetch. 🎾
Still! I’m not complaining! It works out to 8 hours of sleep if you subtract the pee breaks I still have to make. What is THAT all about? Is that just my New Normal? I’ve been using that term a lot since Baby M. has been born.

Loving this tattoo art by @evakrbdk πŸ’™
I continue to be inspired by tattoo art on IG, although I’m over wanting any more for myself. Although at least 3 times a year I think I want to cover up my old sun tattoo. BUT WITH WHAT? The eternal dilemma.

"What is that green thing?" squawked my sleep-deprived husband today. "Some kind of alien?"
I’m going to slowly post less pictures of my son on my primary IG account, and just post to his private account, so if you want to see more pictures of Baby M. (and I know you in real life), than please visit @babyboyholcomb.

My daily audience for breakfast.
I’d like to eventually make my @artwaif account public again, to help “promote my artwork”. BAH HA HAAAAAA.

After a long fussy weekend, the little dude amazed me by sleeping in till 9 o'clock this morning! πŸ™Œ
Last weekend I went to a consignment shop and bought him 4 shirts, two sweatshirts and a pair of socks for only 24$! I was proud. His feet just keep getting bigger and bigger! So does the rest of him. 2 months old and he’s wearing 3 month clothing.

This morning.⛅️
I wrangled him into the car seat today for another Bob walk. I feel so proud every time I manage to get us all out the door for a walk at the park! Someday it won’t be such a hassle.

Catching a few rays of sunshine (in fleece jackets).
Catching some March sun with my son, in fleece jackets. He didn’t fuss as much as I figured he would with the hood on. He seems to enjoy being outside…just like his parents!

Preeeetty much obsessed with designer @ashish_uk 😍🌈✨✨
Recently discovered designer Ashish and I’m pretty obsessed with everything he does–rainbows! Glitter! Kitsch! Right up my alley.

This little chunk is 2 months old today! πŸŽ‰
Two months old, and such a little chunk! He’s pretty happy in the morning. In the evening that “baby witching hour” kicks in from 4-8 and it’s fuss FEED fuss FEED fussss. Poor Josh, he doesn’t get to see all the smiles that I do.

Completed mini painting for my neighbor's dollhouse. Only took me two weeks! πŸ˜…(it's true what they say about babies, they take up allll your tiiiime)
Completed tiny painting for my neighbor’s dollhouse!

The recent tiny painting commission from my neighbor inspired me to buy a bunch of tiny canvases! Yay for starting new projects! 🎨
I was so inspired I just ordered a dozen tiny canvases (with easels!) to do a series. I already know who my first subject is going to be…Louise Brooks, of course!

🌞
I offered to do a free one for Christopher and Jenn for their dollhouses, and the rest I will put up for sale in my Etsy shop. Dollhouse art has its own niche!

New reading material.
Hoping to get through this book in the next…um, year. Heh.

Yesterday afternoon. I think we have the same squinty eyes! πŸ‘€
He likes to be held facing away from us, so sometimes I use my camera to see what his face looks like…and sometimes it looks like this! Happy little boy! I’m crazy about this kid.

Impulse buy. 7 cookies in one serving? HA.
Well, er…impulse buy at the grocery store led to binge eating led to an inflamed gum around my right lower molar! Coincidence? I think not.

Hey Maggie, placing the ball several feet away from me in a pool of stagnant water isn't what I meant by "bring it back". 😭
Sometimes Maggie thinks that dropping the tennis ball into the nearest disgusting pool of stagnant water is cute. Not so cute, Maggie.

That’s it? I wrote an entire blog entry during the last leg of a nap? Amazing! Maybe I even have time to start my Louise Brooks painting. Catch yer later!

Grunge, art and cuteness

Grunge, art and cuteness

Dressed up in our 90s gear for Brenna's "Come As You Are" 40th b-day party.
How’s it going, blog? Here’s the grunge family dressed up for Brenna’s 40th birthday/”Come As You Are” celebration last Saturday.

Doc Martens? Check. Ripped jeans? Of course. I also wore a hemp choker, Bindi, lots of frosty eyeshadow and mushroom earrings. Lord, the 90s doesn't seem THAT long ago! 😭
Luckily back in the actual 90’s everything was baggy, not like today’s skintight everything, so I was able to wear my little polyester shift dress that I bought in that little indie store in Boise that used to be next to the Record Exchange. Plus my new Docs, black leggings…

Grunge family.
…a hemp necklace (made by Lisa), Bindi, mushroom earrings and lots of silver glitter and MAC shimmer! Josh wore my old Kurt jeans from high school (it was gratifying to see that they were also too small for him), a flannel, Bob Marley shirt and Docs. Baby M. wore his adorable star jammies, because his black Converse are too big for him.

One last shot with yesterday's party outfit.
We couldn’t stay long at the party because we had to drive Mumsie to the airport that same evening, but it was fun while we were there. M. started fussing during the car ride home and I gave him an “emergency” bottle of formula…he sucked the entire thing down! This kid is insatiable!

Who's a happy outdoors Cub?
He’s down for a nap currently while I type this out. I managed to get in a phone call with Mumsie AND eat a grilled cheese sandwich during his nap…I wonder how far into this blog entry I’ll get?

Prismacolor pencil/art marker/ink, 2011.
Another drawing from 2011. I stumbled upon this series while searching for “Neon Amish” to send to blogfriend Liz and have enjoyed posting them on Instagram.

Fleeta and Shirley enjoy some baby faces.
After my mother left us Saturday evening, Fleeta and Bob stayed over Sunday and Monday night. Great-grandparents Lew and Shirley came over for a visit on Sunday afternoon, which was nice.

Baby M.'s doggy quilt by Grandma Fleeta is complete! So sweet.
Fleeta finished his doggy quilt! I LOVE IT.

Hey there smiley guy! πŸ’™
A lot more smiles and coos lately. Such a sweet boy…when he doesn’t have gas.

Bob took a turn babysitting while Fleeta and I went out to look at sewing machines...we were able to leave the house for about 30 minutes before we got the SOS text. πŸ˜‚
Fleeta and I left to go to a nearby sewing shop to check out sewing machines on Monday…we were gone less than 30 minutes when Bob frantically texted us to come back. He had even given M. an “emergency” bottle of formula! Oh well. We tried. In the meantime, my Singer is still working thanks to electrical tape and a rubber band.

Hey snow, maybe you were "cute" back in December but it's almost March so ENOUGH ALREADY.
The weather flirted with snow during their stay, but luckily (for now) washed away with the rain.

Brrrrrr.
I would prefer to not see any more snow, please, and thank you, until…December.

Currently watching: "Abstract: The Art of Design" on Netflix. It's really good.
Fleeta recommended “Abstract: The Art of Design” on Netflix to us, and we watched the first two episodes with them. It’s really good!

Let's go frolic in a forest! 🌲
The dogs are currently snoozing at my feet as I type this.

FINALLY: at 7 weeks old, I managed to get him in the car seat with a minimum of fussing, put the car seat in the Bob and walk the dogs by myself! Seems so simple but has been so hard. πŸ˜…
Very proud of myself this week for being able to get the kid into the carseat, put the carseat into the BOB stroller and get us all out the door for a walk not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES! HA!

Happy Mardi Gras! I think my son owes me some beads, after all I do flash him all day long! πŸ˜‚
I told my son he owed me Mardi Gras beads for flashing him all day long.

My neighbor/occasional babysitter has commissioned a teeny tiny painting from me for the dollhouse she's building. It's going to go in the teenage girls' room. I'm having fun with it! 🌈
My neighbor/occasional babysitter commissioned from me a teeny-tiny painting to go in the teenage girl’s bedroom of the dollhouse she’s building. She gave me complete creative reign, which I love, and this is where my brain took me.

Cookie Still Life: with Pacifier.
Trying to cut out the constant stream of cookies and ice cream in our diets and it’s haaaaaard. One day at a time!

Seven weeks old as of last night, and I think he just keeps getting cuter. πŸ’•
Is he the cutest or what? I might be biased, but I still think he’s the cutest.

Loving these smiles.
I mean COME ON.

A black Lab on a black Lab quilt. πŸ’™

Anna May Wong, mixed media (including glitter that isn't showing up here ✨), 2011. Props to @dubtrance for introducing her to me.
Another drawing from 2011 of Anna May Wong. I like this one.

#tbt self-portrait with grapes, 2009. I painted this photo and then sold the painting! πŸ‡
‘member this? I painted this self-portrait and then sold the painting! That was a good year.

This would be a fun painting project. Turn those earth tones into cuh-luh! 🎨🌈
This Day of the Dead yard art needs some CUH-LUH…I think every time I see it.

What? I wrote an entire blog entry without a baby crying??? Amazing. Ta ta for now.

Baby this and baby that

Baby this and baby that

What a bunch of cuties.
Hey blerg, are you ready for 2432943294 pictures of my baby? Of course you are. We all knew that Glitter for All would become Babies for Some once I squeezed him out of my body.

Ronia meets her new cousin.
My sister-in-law has been over for two visits now to hang out with Baby M. Look at how cute Ronia and the baby are! Mawwwww.

New baby love.
Everyone loves a new baby.

A gift from Brenna for M. to grow into.
She even brought him a cool shirt to grow into.

Morning tummy time.
We’re already on Josh’s third, and final, week of paternity leave. Boooooo!

Recent resurgence of an old hobby.
While awaiting the Painting Muse, I have been spending my time in between breastfeeding sessions doing puzzles.

Milk drunk is the best drunk.
This dude likes to breastfeed. I’ve been using an app to keep track of feedings…I think we did about 14 yesterday.

Kate in orange (forgot who I stole this from, sorry)
You gotta throw a little glamour into the baby pic mix from time to time.

I knew having a baby would turn my IG into a baby stream...but I can't stooooop...😍
He’s sleeping pretty well most nights. Last night he had two three-hour chunks of sleep…that was nice.

Had a nice visit from @espedp today. She brought me flowers! πŸ’–
Espe, at about 39 weeks pregnant, came over for a visit and brought me these beautiful flowers.

Things I have accomplished today: most of a puzzle, many breastfeedings, and um, this. (thanks @gabriel_held)
There’s an obnoxious Japanese app called “Meitu” that gives your selfies this fun effect. I texted it to my mother, who texted it to my father, who wrote to tell me that motherhood had given me a “beautiful glow”. “That’s not motherhood, that’s Japanese photoshop,” I replied. Still sweet of him to say.

Played "Vogue" during tummy time this morning. "Listen up, son," I told him. "This is a very important song!"
We try to do Tummy Time every day. Mornings are generally best for that–he’s alert without being fussy.

These are special days.
You have to cherish these days, even the tough ones.

Inevitable. I like how they drew eyebrows on him. πŸ˜‚
Of course I did the Meitu app on him, too. Look at the little eyebrows!

Noooooo...😭
This puzzle was a colossal pain in the ass and when I finished, there were two pieces missing! Nooooo.

Morning dance party to Digable Planets' "Rebirth of Slick".
We often do Tummy Time to the Biz Markie station on Pandora, and sometimes the Tribe Called Quest station.

Hard to say no to this face.
Ever begging.

So proud of all the women I know who will be marching today. πŸ’ͺ
I was very proud of my sister-in-law and my Broad for joining the women’s march last Saturday. 50,000 people were expected to march in Seattle, and 175,000 did! Amazing!

Siiiiiiggghhhhh...😍
I marched in spirit. I’m just now, the last couple of days, starting to go for short walks outside again. Recovering from delivering an 8 pound baby (with a second degree tear) ain’t no fun.

Bear Cub keeping an eye on things.

First walkies session with son/dogs: complete! Although we did have to pull over on the way to the park for a breastfeeding session.
This was our first walk. He screamed and cried so hard on the way to the park I had to give him a breastfeeding session before we started the walk. Heigh ho!

"Dollars to donuts, a fat baby foot is going right in my mouth." - Janeane Garofalo. SAME.
Siiiiiiiiiigh.

Puzzling and breastfeeding. I'm gonna need a painting project real soon. πŸ˜…
Seriously though, I need a painting project.

Love this stupid app. Can I just look like this all the time, please? 🌟✨✨
Meitu again! Addictive!

Gloria Swanson and dogfriend, 1917. I'm thinking about painting her next. Difficult part will be choosing which picture!
I had been tossing around the idea of painting Gloria Swanson (we’re distantly related, after all), but I can’t find just the right picture.

Trying out the Ergo carrier with infant insert (and actual baby inside).

Enjoying sunny walkies. 🌞
We’ve been taking the Bob stroller on walkies.

Last week of paternity leave with this dude already! 😭
The sunshine feels great.

I’d say we’re holding up pretty darn well for the new parents of a two-week-old.

Ponytails.
We’re enjoying two new (for us) shows: “Orphan Black” and “Schitt’s Creek”, which is truly funny. You should check it out!

Let’s look back at 2016

Let’s look back at 2016

Hola blog! It’s that time of year when I force myself to do a yearly re-cap. I actually climbed onto the computer to print out a recipe for lactation cookies, but while I’m here, hells bells, why not re-cap what I did in 2016? Let’s take it month by month.

January 2016

Pre-surgery glamour, darling. πŸ’‹
Uterine polyp removal in preparation for IVF

– started hormone injections for IVF

– completed three heart-shaped Mandala paintings for sale HERE!

February 2016

Amazing glass at the Chihuly museum.
– Josh and I finally go to the Chihuly glass art museum downtown (worth it)

– ended the full-time job I’d had for the past couple of years, panicked for a week or two, and then signed on with a PRN position. Phewwwwww.

Pre-surgery for egg retrieval. They retrieved 14, above average! 🌟

– had my egg retrieval on my father’s 65th birthday (February 9th)

– found out that the two frozen embryos were both boys, and had a hearty laugh with my fertility doctor

– trimmed down coffee consumption from 3 cups a day to 1 cup (HELL)

March 2016

Is it done? Is it done yet? Finishing a painting is always the hardest part. πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨
Finished the neon glitter Mandala, which is definitely one of my faves. Available here!

scenic pond
Josh and I go to the Seattle Arboretum, in spite of the fact that my back is all messed up. I never did figure out why I had back problems for a few days/weeks, but it suuuuucked.

Caftan Number 2 purchased. My Year of the Caftan is off to a good start! Now I need to stop buying and start sewing them myself, sheesh.
I decide that 2016 is going to be the Year of the Caftan and buy two caftans, to that end. (note: sitting here GIANT at 9 months pregnant, I can’t BELIEVE how tiny my waist looks in that caftan, sob!)

– painted our bedroom
– started going to an IVF support group

Getting ready to caucus this morning. 🌈
Caucused for Bernie! (SIGH)

April 2016

First time on Mt. Rainier. Are we having fun yet? 🌟
Josh and I had competed against each other earlier in the year for a “Dietbet” and he won (I’m pretty sure he cheated by fasting, but whatever). My “punishment” was that I had to go skiing, but by the time April rolled around and my back was finally not screwed up, not much skiing was to be found so I was “punished” by walking in snow on Mount Rainier instead. It wasn’t terrible!

Finished painting the guest room last night. The "true" colors are really hard to capture via photo, but it's "Soothing lavender" on the top and "Periwinkle dream" on the bottom. Hi Jerry!
Painted the guest room.

Olympic Sculpture Park.
Downtown Seattle fun with Fleeta and Bob–Pike Place Market, and checking out the Olympic Sculpture Park.

Embarking on an "easy" 5K this morning on Tiger Mountain. I panted like a dog the entire time. Josh is training for a marathon and didn't even break a sweat! πŸ’ͺ
First trail run! An “easy” 5K up Tiger Mountain.

– April 28th: the day of my IVF transfer! One perfect little male embryo, which the nurse exclaimed looked “better than textbook”. Aw yeah.

May 2016

– started progesterone suppositories for IVF

A couple of dorks touring a chocolate factory for funsies.
Josh and I tour the Theo chocolate factory for funsies (and distraction) and while there, get the Very Important Phone Call that I’m pregnant! YAYYYY! We immediately burst into happy tears. Such a special moment.

– first ultrasound, post-transfer

June 2016

dogs in nature
First camping trip! Not only did we set a camping record for us this year–five times–but I did every single one of those trips pregnant.

– I finish Corinne’s cat paintings and start a project for the guest room

First archery lesson tonight with Josh. 🎯🎯🎯
Josh and I take an archery class together. He’s better than I am, but I’m not too resentful about it.

– started going back to the gym

This maniac ran the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon in the rain this morning! πŸ’ͺ
Josh runs the Rock and Roll Marathon; I do not join him.

Little Ronia is growing up fast.
Josh leaves his hormonal pregnant wife for EIGHT WHOLE DAYS to go float down a river or something so I spend one night at Brenna’s, because I am so lonely. It’s not the daytime loneliness that bothered me, it was the nighttime.

Posted our “official” (12 weeks) pregnancy announcement to all forms of social media

Bear Cub doesn't look like a bear cub any more! 😱
Bear Cub gets trimmed a little TOO much and is re-christened “Goat Cub”

– thanks to Groupon, I receive my first facial (overrated)

– went and got a shellac manicure for the first time since January…but very quickly realized that shellac manicures are a waste of money when you’re pregnant. Your nails grow too quickly!

Maggie takes it easy
Camping trip number two!

@djmagicelf and @corinne_spoja and I ready to see Die Antwoord tonight woot wooooot! 🌟
Baby’s first concert: Die Antwoord! With my Broad.

Camping trip number three!

Tonight I said goodbye to my VW Passat that I've had for the past 10 years. Good-bye old girl! You were so lovely in concept but such a problem child in reality!
Said good-bye to my VW Passat wagon, which I loved but caused me a great deal of trouble during our 10 years together…

Hey there, sexy. 😍
…and HELLO to this sexy blue Subaru outback, which I love but am a little sad that now I have to make 500$ car payments for every month. Heigh ho.

– Josh and I and the girls hike to Twin Falls (2.5 miles but much harder while pregnant)

Tonight! πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨ Let's get celebritied up!
My Broad and I go see the new “Ab Fab” movie together. She tried to get out of it (twice!) but I wouldn’t let her. It was great!

FINALLY at the Mod Podge (i.e. last) stage of this painting. This little side project for the guest room ended up taking way longer than I thought! 🎨
Finally finish this Polly Apfelbaum rip-off painting for our guest room.

August 2016

In honor of #bumpday, here is my bump! He just popped out this week and I'm happy to finally look pregnant, not just like I've been eating too many donuts. 🍩
At 16 weeks pregnant, my belly POPS! Aw, look at how tiny and cute it was.

Josh bought me a little lemon tree for our anniversary. I hope I don't kill it immediately. πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹
Joshy and I celebrate our 8-year anniversary…he bought me a little lemon tree. Would you believe it’s still alive? And on the back patio, yet? Amazing.

Camping love.
Camping trip number 4! The first actually warm trip, too. Thank goodness.

More progress on the Mandala.
Started a new Mandala painting, which ended up taking wayyyyyy longer than I thought it would to finish.

My crazy-ass husband doing a headstand on a paddle board. @djmagicelf 😘
A very special (final) camping trip to a private island, where I got to witness my husband doing a headstand on a paddleboard. Who knew he had hidden talents?

BUMP. Enjoying my "beauty room" for a few more months before it becomes the baby room.
At 18 weeks pregnant, I made the decision to quit weighing myself (a very smart decision and I highly recommend it). Of course, this was a little easier to do because Josh broke the scale right around that time. Tempting to just never buy a scale again!

Look at where Josh hiked to today without me--Blanca Lake! I've wanted to go for ages but it's too arduous for my pregnant body. 😭
Josh makes me mad by hiking one of my bucket list lakes without me, Lake Blanca. Heigh ho! He said it was HARD. Well then. GOOD.

My cute cousin Erika and her equally cute son Cash.
Erika and her two sons come for a visit! We go to Pike Place Market, she cooks for me AND sets up the crib and we have a fabulous time.

September 2016

Tonight we met Mr. Bennett. 😍
We meet Mr. Bennett–Ronia’s birthday present–for the first time.

Mumsie and me.
I spend a fun week in Boise with my parents and the Little Nipper, and feel Baby M. kick for the first time! So exciting!

Josh and his 90-year-old grandmother at breakfast this morning.
Josh and I drive to Spokane so he can climb a mountain with his father, while Fleeta and I do a little baby shopping. Then before we drive home, we have breakfast with his 90-year-old grandmother. Isn’t this a cute picture?

Got the baby room painted. I think it needs a cute border, though. Dinosaurs?
Finished painting the nursery, but found it kind of boring, so I start searching for the perfect wallpaper border.

First minkie/flannel blankie for my son: complete! βœ‚οΈ
Made a couple of minkie-and-flannel baby blankets for my son (this one was my favorite).

Putting up the dinosaur border in the nursery today. πŸ’š
Found the perfect border for the nursery–dinosaurs!

One last ultrasound today to make sure our little dude's heart is okay (it is). πŸ’–
Had a special ultrasound to make sure the little guy’s heart is okay…and of course it is!

October 2016

Today's art project was painting a friend's little neighborhood library. 🌈
Went over to Shoshanna’s house to paint her little free library

Made some green curtains for the nursery to match the dinosaur border. πŸ’š
Made some curtains for the nursery

The quilt I made my mother looks pretty good in our guest room.
Fleeta sweetly fixes up this quilt that I made for my parents and returns it to me, where it’s currently residing in our guest room. It looks pretty good in the guest room!

Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks?
Started ramp training the pets to prepare them for having to be in the BACK back of the car, once Baby M. comes

A couple of happy pregnant ladies in florals. We are due 2 weeks apart, with boys.
Josh and I attend our first non-work-related baby shower…

liz pregnant with Josh
…and the same afternoon, we take the tripod to the park and snap some maternity pics before the sun completely disappears.

Phase 3 of ombrΓ©-fying the free dresser: complete! We only spent money on the drawer pulls. Total cost: less than 20$.
We obtain a hideous brown dresser from “Buy Nothing” and completely transform it into this cool ombre work of art for the nursery! I guess Pinterest is good for something.

My friend Espe, who is due two weeks after me with a boy, takes some beautiful maternity photos of me at a park, for free! She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.

"That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, Homeskillet." Happy Halloween from Juno and Paulie Bleeker!
Josh and I dress up as Juno and Paulie Bleeker from the film “Juno”. Not the most exciting Halloween costumes ever, but it’s really hard doing Halloween when you’re a big sweaty pregnant lady. We set up a grueling game of Scrabble in the parlor and handed out Halloween candy to the hoards of tricker treaters, and that was good enough for us!

November 2016

-voted, hoped for the best, found out the WORST, mourned for an entire day and then decided for the sake of my son that I couldn’t perseverate over the sadness. Also: pulled out my Happy Light that I hadn’t used since 2009 and started using it every morning!

The latest Mandala painting, fully glittered. Now I just have to decide if it's really "done", or just done because I'm sick of working on it! 😝
Finally finished this friggin’ Mandala painting, although I’m not totally satisfied with it and therefore haven’t listed it in my shop.

Four pregnant bellies all in a row, all due with boys early next year.
My cousin Erika comes to town and throws me the most fantastic baby shower at Brenna’s house, and still hasn’t sent me the pictures for it! Ha ha. I wonder if I’ll ever get them?

Delicious Indian dinner with family and friends.
My mother, aunt Claire, and cousin Katie also came into town for the shower. It was really wonderful. I felt very loved. And thank God, nobody brought up politics the entire time.

Lisa, who has been one of my good friends for almost 20 years, and her three goofy/adorable children.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, a drive to Spokane, and baby shower number two (I’m terribly spoiled), Josh and I got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning from a local taco truck. We barely managed to scrape ourselves together to make the drive, but I’m glad we did. We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with both sets of our parents and his grandmother, and then the next day I had another sweet baby shower and saw my ooooooold friend Lisa and all of her children! Maw.

My parents trying to feel their grandson kick. I was told this week he's measuring in the 92nd percentile. Already an overachiever! πŸ˜…
Love this picture of my parents trying to coax a kick from the baby.

December 2016

– finished up a painting for Baby M.’s room (this is when the link between Instagram and Flickr shit the bed, so I don’t have a picture)

– Josh and I spend my birthday/”Babymoon” at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle, relaxing and eating lots of things

– Josh gets heavily into glitter beards, and I support him!

– Owen invites me to participate in his annual art show, but I am too big and pregnant so we just attend the show instead and stay for an hour and a half. Still Good Times!

– Josh does up an elaborate glitter/tiny Christmas light beard, I wear a muumuu and we wrap me in Christmas bulbs, and we take our Christmas card picture!

Glittered up for Brenna's solstice party tonight. ✨
Winter Solstice party at Brenna’s house.

Josh and my Broad at grandma's tonight. ❀️❀️
I am too pregnant to travel, so we do Christmas Eve at Grandma Shirley’s, with the Broad…

Unicorn Snot! (with photobomb by Ronia) ✨🌟✨
…and the next day, we do Christmas Day at our house. Josh’s parents, sister and sister’s family all came over and we feasted on lasagna that I had made the day before, exchanged presents, and had a nice time. Our first Christmas at our house, and our last Christmas before the baby comes!

And that brings us up to date, blog logs! Stay tuned later this week and I’ll let you know how we PARTIED DOWN for New Years Eve, bwa ha haaaaa. 2016: you were one interesting year. I refuse to do what so many people on the Internet are doing, which is write-off the ENTIRE YEAR as crap, because this was the year that I finally got pregnant after 6 years of nonsense and there is no replicating that bliss. I can’t wait for 2017!

Merry Christmas 2016, blog! Our very last Christmas together before we become parents. Maw.

BRING IT ON, WINTER SOLSTICE. The sooner you come, the sooner winter can be over!

You might notice that I’m still having to embed my photos via Instagram. I did finally find a website that will act as a link between Instagram and Flickr and will automatically just upload everything I put on Instagram to Flickr…but it didn’t kick in until yesterday.

36 weeks and 3 days, and the bloom is wearing off this pregnancy rose, if ya know what I mean. Giant belly, sore feet, heartburn every day, peeing once an hour all night long…oof!

Meanwhile, Josh’s glitter beard game is strong. He glitters it on game day, and goes to work like this.

I don’t think Bear Schnubs is going to enjoy a crying baby. I suspect she’ll be spending a loooot of time in the basement.

Getting in my Vitamin D, as best I can.

The nesting has intensified…I’ve started washing his clothes! And trying to move more things out of “our” closet, heh. These petticoats take up a HUGE amount of room, but will I ever get rid of them? NOPE.

I’m still enjoying Chelsea Handler’s show, three days a week. Do we really think that a dog is gonna help that guy, though? Pity the dog!

Saturday morning at the gym and the start of Month 9, with raging plantar fasciitis and lots of snow drifting onto the ground. I felt like kind of a bad ass. I think 20’s Liz would be very impressed with 30’s Liz.

Heyyyyy, this wasn’t in the forecast!

Luckily it all melted away the next day.

Owen asked me if I wanted to show my art in his annual studio show again this year, and OF COURSE I wanted to, I always want to get my art out of the house! But I’m just too damn pregnant and sore to hang art and then stand around and NOT sell it for five hours. You understand. But I still wanted to go to the show, so Josh and I covered ourselves in glitter Saturday night and went out.

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

First time my partner has worn more glitter than me! NOT COMPLAINING.

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

We stayed about an hour and a half, long enough to mingle and attend an auction and check out all the art.

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

I did bid on the piece on the right, but only up to 40$. We’re about to have some major expenses in 2017…think of all the diapers I’m gonna have to buy! The mind reels.

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

Seattle drag queen Betty Wetter enhanced the evening with a rousing tune before she officiated over the art auction.

We’ve also been cuddling on the couch and watching Christmas movies together. Last night was the Grinch movie with Jim Carrey, always hilarious! I also forced him to watch “Ernest Saves Christmas”, because I love Ernest and I don’t care. Know what I mean, Vern?

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

Good advice, yeah?

Just a corgi doing leg lifts, NBD.
Now we’re into the latest photos, which hopefully will show up without issues. I’m not exactly sure where/when/how this Corgi doing leg lefts wound up on my phone, but isn’t it cuuuuute?

Don't get me wrong, after 6 years of TTC I'm incredibly grateful to be pregnant. However, I can't WAIT to go to work and not hear (with increasing frequency, all day long): "Wow!" "You're huge!" "You sure you only have one in there?" "When are you due aga
Today, after work. Good Lord, I am extremely grateful to be pregnant, truly I am, but I can’t wait for the endless comments every day, all day long at work to stop. Every day: “Wow!” “You look huge!” “Are you sure you only have one in there?” “When are you due again?” “You’re still working??” Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

A balmy and sunny 48 degrees this afternoon...I'll take it! 🌞
But then the sun is shining and I walk the dogs outside and my feet don’t hurt TOO badly and in less than a month, we’re going to meet our son and all is just fine with the world. Have a beautiful Christmas bloggers, I’ll catch you next week.
