Let’s look back at 2016

Let’s look back at 2016

Hola blog! It’s that time of year when I force myself to do a yearly re-cap. I actually climbed onto the computer to print out a recipe for lactation cookies, but while I’m here, hells bells, why not re-cap what I did in 2016? Let’s take it month by month.

January 2016

Pre-surgery glamour, darling. πŸ’‹
Uterine polyp removal in preparation for IVF

– started hormone injections for IVF

– completed three heart-shaped Mandala paintings for sale HERE!

February 2016

Amazing glass at the Chihuly museum.
– Josh and I finally go to the Chihuly glass art museum downtown (worth it)

– ended the full-time job I’d had for the past couple of years, panicked for a week or two, and then signed on with a PRN position. Phewwwwww.

Pre-surgery for egg retrieval. They retrieved 14, above average! 🌟

– had my egg retrieval on my father’s 65th birthday (February 9th)

– found out that the two frozen embryos were both boys, and had a hearty laugh with my fertility doctor

– trimmed down coffee consumption from 3 cups a day to 1 cup (HELL)

March 2016

Is it done? Is it done yet? Finishing a painting is always the hardest part. πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨
Finished the neon glitter Mandala, which is definitely one of my faves. Available here!

scenic pond
Josh and I go to the Seattle Arboretum, in spite of the fact that my back is all messed up. I never did figure out why I had back problems for a few days/weeks, but it suuuuucked.

Caftan Number 2 purchased. My Year of the Caftan is off to a good start! Now I need to stop buying and start sewing them myself, sheesh.
I decide that 2016 is going to be the Year of the Caftan and buy two caftans, to that end. (note: sitting here GIANT at 9 months pregnant, I can’t BELIEVE how tiny my waist looks in that caftan, sob!)

– painted our bedroom
– started going to an IVF support group

Getting ready to caucus this morning. 🌈
Caucused for Bernie! (SIGH)

April 2016

First time on Mt. Rainier. Are we having fun yet? 🌟
Josh and I had competed against each other earlier in the year for a “Dietbet” and he won (I’m pretty sure he cheated by fasting, but whatever). My “punishment” was that I had to go skiing, but by the time April rolled around and my back was finally not screwed up, not much skiing was to be found so I was “punished” by walking in snow on Mount Rainier instead. It wasn’t terrible!

Finished painting the guest room last night. The "true" colors are really hard to capture via photo, but it's "Soothing lavender" on the top and "Periwinkle dream" on the bottom. Hi Jerry!
Painted the guest room.

Olympic Sculpture Park.
Downtown Seattle fun with Fleeta and Bob–Pike Place Market, and checking out the Olympic Sculpture Park.

Embarking on an "easy" 5K this morning on Tiger Mountain. I panted like a dog the entire time. Josh is training for a marathon and didn't even break a sweat! πŸ’ͺ
First trail run! An “easy” 5K up Tiger Mountain.

– April 28th: the day of my IVF transfer! One perfect little male embryo, which the nurse exclaimed looked “better than textbook”. Aw yeah.

May 2016

– started progesterone suppositories for IVF

A couple of dorks touring a chocolate factory for funsies.
Josh and I tour the Theo chocolate factory for funsies (and distraction) and while there, get the Very Important Phone Call that I’m pregnant! YAYYYY! We immediately burst into happy tears. Such a special moment.

– first ultrasound, post-transfer

June 2016

dogs in nature
First camping trip! Not only did we set a camping record for us this year–five times–but I did every single one of those trips pregnant.

– I finish Corinne’s cat paintings and start a project for the guest room

First archery lesson tonight with Josh. 🎯🎯🎯
Josh and I take an archery class together. He’s better than I am, but I’m not too resentful about it.

– started going back to the gym

This maniac ran the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon in the rain this morning! πŸ’ͺ
Josh runs the Rock and Roll Marathon; I do not join him.

Little Ronia is growing up fast.
Josh leaves his hormonal pregnant wife for EIGHT WHOLE DAYS to go float down a river or something so I spend one night at Brenna’s, because I am so lonely. It’s not the daytime loneliness that bothered me, it was the nighttime.

July 2016

Posted our “official” (12 weeks) pregnancy announcement to all forms of social media

Bear Cub doesn't look like a bear cub any more! 😱
Bear Cub gets trimmed a little TOO much and is re-christened “Goat Cub”

– thanks to Groupon, I receive my first facial (overrated)

– went and got a shellac manicure for the first time since January…but very quickly realized that shellac manicures are a waste of money when you’re pregnant. Your nails grow too quickly!

Maggie takes it easy
Camping trip number two!

@djmagicelf and @corinne_spoja and I ready to see Die Antwoord tonight woot wooooot! 🌟
Baby’s first concert: Die Antwoord! With my Broad.

Maggie and Bear Cub splash around Hyas Lake. πŸ’¦
Camping trip number three!

Tonight I said goodbye to my VW Passat that I've had for the past 10 years. Good-bye old girl! You were so lovely in concept but such a problem child in reality!
Said good-bye to my VW Passat wagon, which I loved but caused me a great deal of trouble during our 10 years together…

Hey there, sexy. 😍
…and HELLO to this sexy blue Subaru outback, which I love but am a little sad that now I have to make 500$ car payments for every month. Heigh ho.

– Josh and I and the girls hike to Twin Falls (2.5 miles but much harder while pregnant)

Tonight! πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨ Let's get celebritied up!
My Broad and I go see the new “Ab Fab” movie together. She tried to get out of it (twice!) but I wouldn’t let her. It was great!

FINALLY at the Mod Podge (i.e. last) stage of this painting. This little side project for the guest room ended up taking way longer than I thought! 🎨
Finally finish this Polly Apfelbaum rip-off painting for our guest room.

August 2016

In honor of #bumpday, here is my bump! He just popped out this week and I'm happy to finally look pregnant, not just like I've been eating too many donuts. 🍩
At 16 weeks pregnant, my belly POPS! Aw, look at how tiny and cute it was.

Josh bought me a little lemon tree for our anniversary. I hope I don't kill it immediately. πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹
Joshy and I celebrate our 8-year anniversary…he bought me a little lemon tree. Would you believe it’s still alive? And on the back patio, yet? Amazing.

Camping love.
Camping trip number 4! The first actually warm trip, too. Thank goodness.

More progress on the Mandala.
Started a new Mandala painting, which ended up taking wayyyyyy longer than I thought it would to finish.

My crazy-ass husband doing a headstand on a paddle board. @djmagicelf 😘
A very special (final) camping trip to a private island, where I got to witness my husband doing a headstand on a paddleboard. Who knew he had hidden talents?

BUMP. Enjoying my "beauty room" for a few more months before it becomes the baby room.
At 18 weeks pregnant, I made the decision to quit weighing myself (a very smart decision and I highly recommend it). Of course, this was a little easier to do because Josh broke the scale right around that time. Tempting to just never buy a scale again!

Look at where Josh hiked to today without me--Blanca Lake! I've wanted to go for ages but it's too arduous for my pregnant body. 😭
Josh makes me mad by hiking one of my bucket list lakes without me, Lake Blanca. Heigh ho! He said it was HARD. Well then. GOOD.

My cute cousin Erika and her equally cute son Cash.
Erika and her two sons come for a visit! We go to Pike Place Market, she cooks for me AND sets up the crib and we have a fabulous time.

September 2016

Tonight we met Mr. Bennett. 😍
We meet Mr. Bennett–Ronia’s birthday present–for the first time.

Mumsie and me.
I spend a fun week in Boise with my parents and the Little Nipper, and feel Baby M. kick for the first time! So exciting!

Josh and his 90-year-old grandmother at breakfast this morning.
Josh and I drive to Spokane so he can climb a mountain with his father, while Fleeta and I do a little baby shopping. Then before we drive home, we have breakfast with his 90-year-old grandmother. Isn’t this a cute picture?

Got the baby room painted. I think it needs a cute border, though. Dinosaurs?
Finished painting the nursery, but found it kind of boring, so I start searching for the perfect wallpaper border.

First minkie/flannel blankie for my son: complete! βœ‚οΈ
Made a couple of minkie-and-flannel baby blankets for my son (this one was my favorite).

Putting up the dinosaur border in the nursery today. πŸ’š
Found the perfect border for the nursery–dinosaurs!

One last ultrasound today to make sure our little dude's heart is okay (it is). πŸ’–
Had a special ultrasound to make sure the little guy’s heart is okay…and of course it is!

October 2016

Today's art project was painting a friend's little neighborhood library. 🌈
Went over to Shoshanna’s house to paint her little free library

Made some green curtains for the nursery to match the dinosaur border. πŸ’š
Made some curtains for the nursery

The quilt I made my mother looks pretty good in our guest room.
Fleeta sweetly fixes up this quilt that I made for my parents and returns it to me, where it’s currently residing in our guest room. It looks pretty good in the guest room!

Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks?
Started ramp training the pets to prepare them for having to be in the BACK back of the car, once Baby M. comes

A couple of happy pregnant ladies in florals. We are due 2 weeks apart, with boys.
Josh and I attend our first non-work-related baby shower…

liz pregnant with Josh
…and the same afternoon, we take the tripod to the park and snap some maternity pics before the sun completely disappears.

Phase 3 of ombrΓ©-fying the free dresser: complete! We only spent money on the drawer pulls. Total cost: less than 20$.
We obtain a hideous brown dresser from “Buy Nothing” and completely transform it into this cool ombre work of art for the nursery! I guess Pinterest is good for something.

My friend Espe, who is due two weeks after me with a boy, takes some beautiful maternity photos of me at a park, for free! She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.

"That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, Homeskillet." Happy Halloween from Juno and Paulie Bleeker!
Josh and I dress up as Juno and Paulie Bleeker from the film “Juno”. Not the most exciting Halloween costumes ever, but it’s really hard doing Halloween when you’re a big sweaty pregnant lady. We set up a grueling game of Scrabble in the parlor and handed out Halloween candy to the hoards of tricker treaters, and that was good enough for us!

November 2016

-voted, hoped for the best, found out the WORST, mourned for an entire day and then decided for the sake of my son that I couldn’t perseverate over the sadness. Also: pulled out my Happy Light that I hadn’t used since 2009 and started using it every morning!

The latest Mandala painting, fully glittered. Now I just have to decide if it's really "done", or just done because I'm sick of working on it! 😝
Finally finished this friggin’ Mandala painting, although I’m not totally satisfied with it and therefore haven’t listed it in my shop.

Four pregnant bellies all in a row, all due with boys early next year.
My cousin Erika comes to town and throws me the most fantastic baby shower at Brenna’s house, and still hasn’t sent me the pictures for it! Ha ha. I wonder if I’ll ever get them?

Delicious Indian dinner with family and friends.
My mother, aunt Claire, and cousin Katie also came into town for the shower. It was really wonderful. I felt very loved. And thank God, nobody brought up politics the entire time.

Lisa, who has been one of my good friends for almost 20 years, and her three goofy/adorable children.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, a drive to Spokane, and baby shower number two (I’m terribly spoiled), Josh and I got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning from a local taco truck. We barely managed to scrape ourselves together to make the drive, but I’m glad we did. We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with both sets of our parents and his grandmother, and then the next day I had another sweet baby shower and saw my ooooooold friend Lisa and all of her children! Maw.

My parents trying to feel their grandson kick. I was told this week he's measuring in the 92nd percentile. Already an overachiever! πŸ˜…
Love this picture of my parents trying to coax a kick from the baby.

December 2016

– finished up a painting for Baby M.’s room (this is when the link between Instagram and Flickr shit the bed, so I don’t have a picture)

– Josh and I spend my birthday/”Babymoon” at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle, relaxing and eating lots of things

– Josh gets heavily into glitter beards, and I support him!

– Owen invites me to participate in his annual art show, but I am too big and pregnant so we just attend the show instead and stay for an hour and a half. Still Good Times!

– Josh does up an elaborate glitter/tiny Christmas light beard, I wear a muumuu and we wrap me in Christmas bulbs, and we take our Christmas card picture!

Glittered up for Brenna's solstice party tonight. ✨
Winter Solstice party at Brenna’s house.

Josh and my Broad at grandma's tonight. ❀️❀️
I am too pregnant to travel, so we do Christmas Eve at Grandma Shirley’s, with the Broad…

Unicorn Snot! (with photobomb by Ronia) ✨🌟✨
…and the next day, we do Christmas Day at our house. Josh’s parents, sister and sister’s family all came over and we feasted on lasagna that I had made the day before, exchanged presents, and had a nice time. Our first Christmas at our house, and our last Christmas before the baby comes!

And that brings us up to date, blog logs! Stay tuned later this week and I’ll let you know how we PARTIED DOWN for New Years Eve, bwa ha haaaaa. 2016: you were one interesting year. I refuse to do what so many people on the Internet are doing, which is write-off the ENTIRE YEAR as crap, because this was the year that I finally got pregnant after 6 years of nonsense and there is no replicating that bliss. I can’t wait for 2017!

Art, dogs, and more dogs and some more art

Art, dogs, and more dogs and some more art

Bought this triptych at a thrift store earlier this year, pre-pregnancy, and wouldn't you know it? It matches the nursery perfectly. πŸ’š
Hey blerg, what’s happening? “Happy” Election night, bwa ha ha haaaaaa. I’ve been in denial about the friggin’ election all day, which has worked for me pretty well. Look at how well the triptych painting set I bought earlier this year matches the nursery! Oooooh!

What's better than a new season of "Trailer Park Boys"? The TPB meet Noel Fielding! 😍
Turns out even in my highly emotional third trimester, the offensive “Trailer Park Boys” are still hilaaaaaarious. We watched their latest series “Out of the Park” this week, where they travel to Europe. In the first episode they meet Noel Fielding and his weird brother Michael!

Today. πŸ’š
So much rain and gloom lately, that when it’s sunny outside (like today), I am almost FRANTIC to be out enjoying it. Praise the Lord that I don’t have to work 8 hours a day.

Ooh boy did I need this today! 🌞
This is last week on Thursday. Even after working two jobs with aching feet, the sunshine felt so good.

Beautiful Fall dahlias.
My neighbor’s dahlias. In real life, they were a dark burgundy color, but they look red with my phone.

Love this picture of Bear Schnubs. It’s very Fall-ish.

Up to see the sunrise this morning. πŸ’™
I had about three days in a row of waking up at 5:30, so yesterday when I was able to sleep in until 7:30 (like the good old days of my first trimester!) it felt like heavennnnn. And why do people keep telling me “Get your sleep in now”? Pregnant women don’t sleep well! More like, “I hope you got all the sleep in you ever wanted/needed BEFORE you got pregnant” would be more appropriate.

My Russian nesting doll tee is swelling...
I am 30 weeks and 3 days pregnant, and my pregnancy app claims that my child is the size of a “butternut squash”–one that is 17 inches long and 3.1 pounds? Hmmmmmm.

Maggie and Mr. Bennett face off.
So the BIG news of the weekend (it’s been a slow week around here, kids) is that we had a little furry houseguest! Mr. Bennett, my sister-in-law’s 5-month old Coton de Tulear (I’ve had to look up that spelling at least 8 times, and I think I finally got it right).

We're dogsitting this little furball all weekend 😍
Jerry was at Australian PAX and Brenna and the kiddies had a preschool reunion (?!) for Ronia to attend up in the mountains, no dogs allowed, so would we mind dogsitting Mr. Bennett? Are you kidding?

Mr. Bennett loves Maggie. πŸ’•
Mr. Bennett was adorable and charming and sweet and cuddly and really pretty mellow for such a young dog. His only problem is that he’s not housebroken, and they trained him on puppy pads, so he immediately began pooping and peeing all over Maggie’s dog beds and every rug in the house within an hour of his arrival. Roops.

It was a three dog morning.
My 30-week-belly makes bending over challenging, too, and I had to bend over to pick up poop and pee a LOT. Good thing Mr. Bennett was so charming.

Mr. Bennett looking cute today (with Maggie standing guard). Now I have three dogs following me around the house! πŸ’•
I mean, could you stay mad at this face? Of course not.

Mr. Bennett spooning Maggie πŸ’•
Maggie was so good, so incredibly tolerant of him. Bear Cub pretty much peaced out all weekend and stayed away.

An 11-year-old dog having fun with a 5-month-old dog this morning.
Look at this 11-year old dog playing with a 5-month old dog! Mawwwww.

Incontinence aside, Mr. Bennett was a very well-behaved houseguest this weekend. πŸ’š
Oh little Mr. Bennett, you are welcome back any time. And hopefully next time, you’ll be potty trained.

Here comes the sparkle ✨✨✨
In other news, I am VERY CLOSE to finally finishing this Mandala. I’M SO OVER IT.

Bear Cub's full plumage is back. 😍
So glad Bear Cub’s plumage has re-grown and she is a fluffy Cub again.

Into this look. Especially the chunky eye glitter. ✨
We’ve been watching more of the latest season of SNL. I like this shimmery silver sparkle look of Solange’s.

30 weeks! I slept in until 7:30 so I'm feeling gooood. Tired of waking up every hour to pee though. I never knew pregnant women peed so much.
This was yesterday. So happy! So well-rested! All things considered.

Love this gorgeous art by Phoebe Anna Traquair.
Just discovered this cool Art Nouveau artist Phoebe Anna Traquair (thanks, Twitter artist friends). I thought this painting was beautiful. I immediately texted it to my Aunt Lisa, who is recovering from knee surgery and loves art with redheads.

Beautiful day today. πŸ’š
Is this an especially long blog entry, or am I just really hungry? And why do I think it’s a good idea to try to blog right before dinner?

Everyone in the greater Seattle area: get your ass outside today! Even if it's during your lunch break! It's gorgeous out there! 🌞
Josh and I are hoping to make it to morning without finding out who the new President is. If I mute my phone, hopefully no one will text me at midnight with the news. I CAN WAIT.

Trying to take a selfie of @idahoagogo and me today in the sunshine and get our pregnant bellies in the shot was a unique challenge!
Christy came over today and we gabbed for several hours and I gave her the baby present I’d had sitting on my kitchen table, wrapped, for weeks and we took the dogs for a walk and the weather was AMAZING. So amazing that as soon as she left, I snarfed down a Luna bar and took the girls to the big park for another walk. Dog walk therapy! Too bad my tootsies are killing me.

This weekend is my baby shower, so stay tuned for 53459345934 photos of that excitement next week!

Park pictures, dressing up, and a Broad date

Park pictures, dressing up, and a Broad date

The very talented photographer @espedp met me at the park today to take a slew of maternity photos. Sun was forecasted, but we got a whole lot of clouds instead. Oh Seattle weather, you fickle beast! Still had a good time. She is due 2 weeks after me.
Blog! I almost forgot to blog this week, blog! Remember when I used to blog every day, blog? Boy did I have a lot of tiiiiime. Here’s me and my friend Espe at the park last Friday. She’s an excellent amateur photographer, and offered to take 4584529 pictures of me. We picked Friday because the weather was supposed to be sunny, and it wasn’t, but we made the best of it.

As we were getting ready to leave, she suggested that we both take a belly-shot-over-leaves picture. She is due just two weeks after me, also with a boy.

Sometimes Bear Cub is a little antisocial.
I am really sick of the rain! I pulled out my “Happy Light” that I bought back in 2009 or so and finally plugged it in. I use it in the morning when I’m doing my make-up. I read all the positive reviews of the light on Amazon to get me into a positive frame of mind about it working. Look at antisocial Bear Cub under the park bench! It’s not true. I was sitting on the bench and she got right under me, because she’s my bodyguard now. It’s adorable. She’s about a foot away as I’m typing this, and Baby M. is bopping away in my belly.

Here's Josh trying out the baby Ergo with a sack of flour and half his Halloween costume on. "Look enthusiastic," I told him. πŸ˜‚
Josh’s work dressed up for Halloween on Friday, and my work dressed up for Halloween on ACTUAL Halloween, Monday. Lame. Here he is on Friday wearing half of his Halloween costume, trying out the Ergo my aunt Caroline bought us, with a sack of flour. I told him to act “enthusiastic”.

Finally bought a #bromeliad plant today. It matched my outfit, couldn't resist! πŸ’–
We went to Fred Meyer’s over the weekend (after taking poor Maggie dog to the vet for some antibiotic cream for a nasty hot spot) and I finally bought a bromeliad plant. I’ve wanted one forever! It matched my outfit.

Late afternoon walkies. πŸ‚
Maggie’s hot spot has bothered me so much the last few days, I actually burst out crying the other night after yoga while I was petting her. Um, pregnancy hormones much? Good grief!

Bear Cub was uncharacteristically cuddly yesterday. Do you think she senses her time as the baby is running out?
We put a cone on Maggie like the vet suggested for about 15 minutes on Saturday, but she looked so pathetic we took it off. Bear Cub cuddled up to me while Maggie had the cone on. Did she think she was next? Or was she just snuggling up to the baby? I’ll never know.

Finally moved all my beauty stuff out of the nursery so now it's just a nursery! Let the nesting begin! πŸ’™
On Saturday I finally moved the last of my beauty supplies over to the office/new Beauty Room, and then Josh lugged the ombre dresser up to the nursery. Now my REAL nesting can begin! Look at the tiny socks mawwwwwwwww.

Bought the "Babysaurus" decals to go on the walls, but they look cuter on the dresser!
I had bought “Babysaurus” decals to go on the walls, but once I started sticking them onto the dresser I realized I liked that better. So cute!

Ready for the final phase: glitter ✨✨✨
This Mandala/pain in my ass is ready for the final phase: GLITTER. Finally.

I'm amazed at our level of self-control over the weekend. When I get off work today...all bets are off! πŸŽƒ
We bought the Halloween candy on Saturday and didn’t open it until Monday. Impressed? I was!

I'm Juno for Halloween this year. Not particularly inspired, but it's hard to be inspired when you're a big sweaty pregnant lady. Stay tuned later to see Paulie Bleeker in short shorts! 😍
Dressed up as Juno for work on Monday. Nobody at work knew who I was, even though I lugged around a jug of Sunny D. We watched “Juno” recently and I SOBBED.

Happy Halloween!
Some last minute outdoor Halloween decorations, thanks to Joshy. I put up only about 1/3rd of our decorations inside the house this year. Best part about that? Only took 10 minutes to take down today!

Josh handled the pumpkin carving duties this year (I am a pumpkin). πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ
I let Josh do all the carving. I found the drilled-hole-pumpkin ideas on Pinterest, and was intrigued. That’s right, I’m on Pinterest, heavy sigh. I said I would never, and now I have. And pretty much all I look at is baby stuff! I’ve basically turned into a Mormon housewife!

"That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, Homeskillet." Happy Halloween from Juno and Paulie Bleeker!
Juno and Paulie Bleeker, ready for Halloween night. I got back into my entire costume by 5 pm for the little kiddies, and we had trick or treaters for about three and a half hours straight.

First time using a drill to carve the pumpkins. ✨✨✨
Pretty pretty!

Last night we set up a game of Scrabble in the parlor so we wouldn't have to run up a flight of stairs every time trick or treaters came to the front door. We feasted on roast and pumpkin roll, and I won the game.
This year to avoid having to run up and down a flight of stairs every time the doorbell rings, we set up a card table in the parlor and played a very looooong game of Scrabble, getting up periodically to answer the door. The people who used to live in our house came by with all their kids and dog, who was named, adorably, Smitty. We feasted on the delicious roast that I made, and homemade pumpkin roll. I won the Scrabble game.

Corinne and I met a fat little prairie dog outside the cafe today.
Yesterday after work I met up with my Broad, and we went to brunch. Look at this adorable fat little prairie dog we saw outside the cafe!

Corinne put a bandanna on my boyfriend Edward today. He wasn't really feeling it. 😾
Corinne’s place had some kind of awful water damage caused by her neighbors so her landlord pulled out all the carpet, put in some nice laminate, and let her choose the wall paint and then painted her entire place. It’s very classy looking now! And check out my boyfriend Edward in a bandanna!

DONE. πŸ˜…
I turned in our frickin’ ballots this week too, hal-le-LU. What a nightmare. Now I feel a whole lot less emotionally invested in the election, which is good for me AND Baby M.

I’m 29 weeks and 4 days pregnant, and my feet are killing meeeee! Excuse me while I go wheedle a foot massage out of my furry husband.

Dog training, painting away stress, and home improvements

Dog training, painting away stress, and home improvements

Fall doesn't need a filter 😍
Hiya blog! I am sleep deprived currently so here comes a ramble. Would you look at those beautiful Fall colors though? Siiiiigh….

Things are gettin' real around here.
Josh took this last night and it made me laugh so hard for so long that of course I had to put it on social media and then text it to everyone because that’s what you DO, right? Right.

Gorgeous Fall day today. 🌲
Last night was the worst night of sleep I’ve had yet, but I suppose since I’ve been pregnant since the end of April that’s not a bad record, eh? (trying to look on the bright side) (TRYING SO HARD)

More progress. I had to work on it last night to Zen out after watching 20 minutes of the debate 😳
On Sunday we tried to watch the second Presidential debate, got 20 minutes into it and were both so disgusted and sick to our stomachs we put on “Ridiculousness” instead, which in comparison was practically therapeutic. I also worked on the latest Mandala to paint away the stress. This election can’t come quick enough, I’ve finally reached my Politics Saturation Point.

Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks?
Hey now, who says you can’t teach old dogs new tricks? Ramp training went a lot better than I expected. For now I have the back seat of the car down so they can have the entire back of the car for a couple of months. I thought I’d gradually eeeeease them into their new reality which is going to be delegation to the back back of the car. The way back, if you will.

John Mulaney is so funny. If I lived in NYC I would definitely go see "Oh, Hello" on Broadway.
I’ve been watching a lot of Chelsea Handler’s new Netflix show while I paint. She interviewed John Mulaney and Nick Kroll, who do an obnoxious duo named Gil and George who apparently now have a show on Broadway! Good for them! I’d go if I lived in NYC! They make me cackle.

First day of ramp training: success! A string cheese may have been involved (for motivation).
I listen to a lot of stand-up comedy these days. Louis CK, Margaret Cho, Amy Schumer, Pablo Francisco. I’m even finally able to listen to Robin Williams again without feeling the sads. His routine about GPS voices made me laugh out loud at the gym last night! Can you imagine? A giant pregnant blonde lady waddling around lifting weights and laughing deliriously? Good thing I don’t have any “shame”.

Tonight we watched "psyCHO". Oh Margaret Cho! I love youuuu! 😻
We also watched “Psy-CHO” the other night. I’m relieved to find that my love for Margaret Cho is as strong as ever. Also a new revelation: she mentions wanting kids in this stand-up! I never knew she wanted kids before. Maybe the hormones finally caught up with her.

Headdress inspiration! (thanks @reformthefunk)
Kind of obsessed with Bert Stern’s photography at the moment. This would be so much fun to paint.

Josh had some "fun" hair this morning.
He’s growing out a beard but promised to shave it off after Thanksgiving (before my birthday). To counterbalance all that crap, he’s also growing his hair out. This was his morning hair the other day. I thought it was cute!

Anyone watching "All Stars"? I'm #teamkatya, but I love Detox too. Especially this outfit! πŸ˜‚
Speaking of that dude, I can credit him to discovering that we can watch RuPaul’s “All Stars” on vh1! Alriiiiiight. #TeamKatya again! (this is Detox and I loved her outfit)

The vanity I will eventually be moving my giant make-up collection to. I'm not in a hurry...still have 3 months!
I’m in the process of slowwwwwly moving all my beauty stuff into the office. Thanks to Fleeta for giving us this vanity and also letting me have the bench (after I begged). I think it looks pretty great against the acid green walls!

DIY'd some lights onto the vanity Josh's mom gave us. I'm sacrificing the room with the best light for the nursery. 😭 Does it need more lights?!
I bought these cool lights at Lowe’s that stick onto the mirror. They are remote controlled and dim and brighten, oooooh.

Happy Friday! πŸ’š
I still have three more months to utilize the good light in the nursery though. And I’m gonna use it.

Current inspiration to re-paint the dresser we scored on "Buy Nothing". Loving the ombrΓ© look!
Speaking of that nursery, we scored a free dresser on “Buy Nothing” and are in the process of re-finishing it to resemble something similar to this. I’m loving this ombre look on furniture.

Going to start ramp training the dogs for my Subaru soon. Wish me luck--one dog is 8 and hates change, one dog is nearly 11 and well, Maggie dog is many things but she isn't too bright! Sigh.
I’m trying really hard to recall what we did last weekend, and nothing is coming to mind. Harrumph.

Siiiiiiigh...(thanks @richardquartley)
Another Bert Stern.

Dog park yeah! πŸ’–
Who likes dogfriends? We like dogfriends!

My dogfriends are currently passed out at my feet as I type this entry. I am 26 weeks and 3 days pregnant, and other than the heartburn, restless legs at night, and sleep deprivation…everything is FINE, JUST FINE.

Another minky/flannel baby blanket complete! Now I need to find some dinosaur flannel.
Three more months! Then it’s gonna be a whole new kind of sleep deprivation, right? Groan. Look at this adorable little minkie blanket I made for my son, before he started keeping me awake all night with kicks. Have a fabulous week, bloggeroonies!

Another 4 mile training run with this furry bunch today. @djmagicelf continued another 9 miles after us. πŸ’ͺ
Hey-yooooo what’s happening, blog? It’s Thursday and I just finished my half a cup of coffee and there is a musty Bear Cub at my feet while I am writing this blog entry. This photo is from Sunday, when we went on a four mile trail “run” together.

Nice mushroom! πŸ„
Nice ‘shroom!

Happy running face earlier today. We both wore our contacts for the run, and now our eyeballs are burning! Oh those spring allergies! πŸ’¦
At the beginning of the run, lip stain still intact. We both wore our contacts that day and then had burning eyeballs for the rest of the night. Ohhhh spring allergies!

Currently I’m killing time before I meet one of my former bosses for coffee. Then it’ll be some kind of fun furry outdoor activity, because it’s supposed to be 80Β degreesΒ today, and I (luckily?) have the day off.

Finished painting the guest room last night. The "true" colors are really hard to capture via photo, but it's "Soothing lavender" on the top and "Periwinkle dream" on the bottom. Hi Jerry!
This is a grainy and not particularly color-accurate photo of the completed paint job in the guest bedroom: “Soothing Lavender” on top, “Periwinkle Dream” on the bottom. Somehow my vision for the room went from dark blue to dark purple to light purple (yuck, never mind) to THIS, and we both like it.

The sun showed up, so we rushed outside for ball fetching and rainbow spotting. 🎾
I mean, sure, it’s another blue room and it seems like every room we re-paint is either blue or green but is there anything really wrong with that? They are, after all, the best colors!

Finally got around to putting photos in these cool shell frames Josh bought me in 2014: Josh on skis and (what else?) my dogs!
Josh bought me these colorful shell frames for my birthday in 2014 and I finally got around to putting photos in them. I have a Grand Vision of editing/printing out photos from years past but considering the amount of photos we take, that seems daunting. Then I considered editing/printing out photos one year at a time, starting in 2008 (I lost all the photos from 2005-2007 on a ruined hard drive). I made it through August 2008 before losing interest. We take a lot of photos in this family!

I πŸ’› Madeline Kahn.
Oh Madeline Kahn, I love you. You have no idea how many times I just casually bust out:

I’ve been with thousands of men
Again and again
They promise the moon
They’re always coming and going
and going and coming
…and always too soon! (here)

Spotted in my neighbor's yard. 🌸
Sometimes Bear Cub lets me drag her around the neighborhood (she can be a stubborn Cub) so we can gawk at all of my neighbors’ beautiful flowers.

It's a gloomy day out, but that doesn't deter us. 🌿
Monday was a gloomy, rainy day. I made some fair progress on Corinne’s cat painting number 1.

Surprise find at Safeway this morning, for only 1$! Mmmmm. 😍
And what should I find at Safeway for only one dollah? Why, delicious Bedford’s ginger ale, mmmmmm.

My ode to cloche hats, circa 2005. I still haven't made any cloche hats! Fleece and faux fur beanies, yes.
A brief trip down memory lane. This is from a little journal I kept when I worked at the fabric store, my first year of living in Washington. I was so bored (because we had such little business) that I journaled and then knit and then eventually brought my sewing machine in and then Ali told me I had to “work” and I didn’t like that so much so I finished my graduate degree and became a speech therapist! Huzzah!

Josh wants me to explore some stars. πŸŒŸπŸ’«βœ¨
Christmas present from Josh. I haven’t used it yet, but I’m thinking about it, by gum!

Bill Hader as Little Edie...I mean, "Little Vivvy", in "Sandy Passage". Hilarious!
Bill Hader and Fred Armison in “Documentary Now!”, a send-up of famous documentaries. You can imagine that my favorite one was “Sandy Passage”, a dead-on mockumentary of “Grey Gardens”, starring Hader as Little “Vivvy” with sweatpants on her head. Yes! The “surprise” ending is WORTH IT.

The eyelash extensions are finally out, after a whole year...and I think my natural top lashes are shorter than the bottom ones. Sob! Natural lashes are overrated!
How disappointing to discover what tiny, blonde and short natural eyelashes I possess after a year or so of extensions. In fact, I think my bottom lashes might be longer than my top lashes now! SOB!

Post-haircut and feeling pretty again. πŸ’›
I had to get over the sadness of no longer possessing glamorous lashes by getting my tri-annual haircut yesterday from my favorite stylist. She is pregnant with a girl baby, happy and adorable and we spent the hour and a half it took to do my hair (she is thorough) gabbing about babies and pregnancy.

I love these checkered lilies.
After that, I had a Sephora gift card from Christmas and 25 dollars on a Nordstrom gift card (from who knows when?) so I sashayed over to the mall to spend them. I had a list with me of some perfumes and products I was interested in, but the only item on the list that Nordstrom and Sephora had was a cannabis perfume by Fresh. It has a patchouli note in it and I looooove patchouli, because I am a dirty hippie at heart.

Tree fort! 🌲
However, said perfume was 90 BUCKS and that’s outrageous for patchouli so I used my gift card to buy a Fresh lip tint instead (total cost to me: 62 cents) and then at Sephora I bought a new foundation compact (total cost to me: 0 cents). I informed them that I never received my birthday gift back in December because they had “run out” (true story) and so I got the April birthday gift: a Marc Jacobs lipstick and black eyeliner. Verdict: eh. Have you ever gotten a free lipstick that was a color that actually worked on you? I haven’t. The eyeliner’s not bad, though.

Also recently discovered: a gift card for 50 dollars to Jo Ann Fabrics…that’s next!

Maggie and Bear Cub are VERY interested in that cat across the street. 😸
Dog butts at the window, barking at a cat across the street.

That brings us up to date! Time for breakfast. Catch yer later.

Painting, art and a windy walk

Painting, art and a windy walk

Beautiful blooms spotted in Bellevue last week. You gotta be quick to catch a glimpse of blue sky these days–wait 5 minutes and it’s raining again.

Painting the bedroom. This teal makes us both really happy. πŸ’™
Over the weekend we managed to get our entire bedroom painted–this gorgeous teal for the accent wall, and then sort of a light “celery” color for the rest of the room. We didn’t want the other walls detracting from that teal! Now we’re in the process of finding curtains. We bought some from Cost Plus on Sunday, put them up and realized they were all wrong. My job today is to go back to Cost Plus, return them and then find another set of curtains that aren’t…distracting.

Sunday was fun. We decided to explore downtown Everett, even though it was pouring rain and there was a terrible windstorm. Who says we’re not adventerous? We started out having lunch at the “Vintage Cafe”–I ordered a Cobb salad (the Monte Cristo caught my eye but I wasn’t in the mood) (can you believe it?) and Josh ordered the soup of the day and a BLT with turkey. The food was SO GOOD. I should write a positive Yelp review about it.

Digging this grape-themed Tiffany lamp at The Vintage Cafe. πŸ‡
The cafe was packed so we sat at the bar, where this grape-themed Tiffany lamp caught my eye. How is it that I have made it this long in life without owning a (fake, of course) Tiffany lamp? It’s a cryin’ shame!

Who could resist trying on a tinsel-and-stars-covered crown? Not me, Hank McGee. πŸ‘‘
Up the block from the cafe is a fun store called “Home Inspirations”, filled with vintage and contemporary art and collectibles and furniture. I had to try this tinsel-covered crown on, of course.

Mmm, blue glass. πŸ’™
I suspect it was from wearing my blue raincoat, but everything BLUE caught my fancy that afternoon. Look at this blue glass! Whine whine snivel!

I like these alcohol ink tiles at the Schack Art Center. πŸ’™πŸ’š
Our main motivation for going to downtown Everett was to check out the Schack Art Center, where they were having a juried art exhibit. Starting in May they are having a Chuck Close exhibit, which I wrote on our calendar, because I’ve always loved his work! These gorgeous (blue) alcohol ink tiles caught my eye in the gift shop. The Center has a class available where you learn how to make them. Fun! Fun! I’d do it.

These doggy ornaments are cute too! 🐢
Love these doggy ornaments too.

Frolicking in a windstorm in downtown Everett today.
After enjoying the art at the Center, we retrieved the pets from the car and did a quick little mile around downtown. More pictures to come. The wind was ridiculous–all kinds of trees were tossing branches, power was out around the city…and Bear Cub was NOT having it! Heigh ho. We tried!

Somebody's being a little snuggle Cub. πŸ’—
Big-time PMS ’round here, which means that Snuggle Cub comforted me while I SOBBED (I mean, really ugly sobbed) over the end of “50 First Dates”. I KNOW, an Adam Sandler movie! How humiliating! I can’t help it, I get moved by music, and this song plays at the end. Josh teared up a little over the song too, but mostly he just made fun of me for sobbing.

I like these guys. Alcohol-free and they work! πŸ’†
Speaking of emotions and having too many of them sometimes, I’m trying out these little guys for a Xanax replacement. I think they work! Who knows how they would fare against MAJOR stress, but for little worry bubbles they soothe.

Thanks @pinwheelspins for recommending "Love", it's really cute. Plus I love Kerri Kenney in everything.
My old old old old old blogfriend Pom recommended the Netflix show “Love” to us, and it’s adorable! I was pleased to see Kerri Kenney pop up in one of the episodes, playing Mickey’s neighbor. I loved her in “Reno 911” and “The State”.

Caftan Number 2 purchased. My Year of the Caftan is off to a good start! Now I need to stop buying and start sewing them myself, sheesh.
We had a big ol’ Cost Plus gift card from Christmas (thanks Mumsie) to spend, so I didn’t feel TOO guilty buying this gorgeous teal-and-pink caftan and matching drop earrings. It is the Year of the Caftan, after all! Note to self: no more buying caftans, now you have to start SEWING them. Sheesh.

Today I’m trying to sort out if the headache and sore throat I have is a cold, versus stupid seasonal allergies. Hard to say. Back to Cost Plus for some different curtains, grocery shopping for lentil soup ingredients (Josh’s choice), and then this evening I have an IVF support group. That’s right! I’ve done support groups over the years for all kinds of things, this seemed to make sense to me. I just wish it wasn’t a 40 minute drive away, harrumph. Catch yer later.

Friday Instagram Superpost

Friday Instagram Superpost

Hey buddies. I thought I’d kick off Labor Day weekend with an INSTAGRAM SUPERPOST! ie, posting all of the IG photos I’ve taken over the past few weeks so I can, um, move on with my life.

Mother and daughter Butter Pecan Flavor Burst Good Times! 🍦🍦

How did I forget to post this picture of Mom and I during my Boise chronicles? It’s one of my favorites from the entire trip! Sitting outside Delsa’s with butter pecan Flavor Burst cones (note the size of mine compared to hers, bwa ha haaaaaaa).

“Did you whiten my teeth?” she asked me when she saw this photo.

“Yep!” I do that, you know. Free of charge. ‘Cause I care.

...and Wild Animal Number Two, as well! Have you hugged your dog today? πŸ’•

Bear Schnubs and I at the dogpark yesterday.

TGIF! I'll be spending my weekend with Wild Animal Number 1...

She cuddled up to me while I threw the ball for this wild animal.Β

Turns out this polyester dress I've owned for __ years is perfect for #gameday (I don't watch the game but I care about the emotional stability of those around me ha haaaa). πŸ’šπŸ’™
Yesterday’s work outfit, minus the short-sleeved cardigan I wore over the top. It was a Seahawks game day, and as it turns out, this polyester green and blue dress I bought 10,000 years ago has Seahawks colors, delighting most of my patients, who are fans.

My new glasses. Can you tell I'm a fan of Dame Edna?! πŸ‘“

My new, ridiculous glasses from Zenni that only set me back 30 clams (well, 30 for the frames at any rate). I’ve always wanted cat-eye glasses and when I saw these online, they just screamed LIZ BUY ME and who could resist? So Dame Edna!

It’s official,” Christopher texted to me when I sent him this picture. “You REALLY are a fag!

Thank you,” I replied.

We finally agreed on a color: chartreuse! πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’š

After smearing 8 different shades of green on the office walls, Josh and I finally came to an agreement on chartreuse. Hurrah!

I was kinda critical of the previous owners' painting job until Josh and I re-painted the office. Ha!

Whoops! Apparently even using painter’s tape doesn’t guarantee a clean edge. Well, it WAS my first time ever painting an entire room, I expected mistakes. In fact, that’s why I wanted to paint the office first, because it’s a room that neither one of us care too much about.Β

Bear Cub does not enjoy riding in the car. πŸ‘Ž

Josh brought the girls to the airport to pick me up on Sunday. Here’s Bear Cub looking supremely uncomfortable on the drive home. Poor little Cub!

Little Fluffy Clouds ☁️

Yesterday at the dog park I had the unique experience of having both sunshine piercing my eyeballs AND little droplets of rain showering on my head. No rainbow though. Harrumph.

Testing kitchen paint colors last night while listening to the Die Antwoord Pandora station. The letters match the color names. Which one is your fave? πŸ’™

The current state of the kitchen. Josh talked me into choosing two colors, so we are going with A (Art Deco Dreams) for the main kitchen color and P (Dip in the Pool) for the dining room. Mmmm, aquaaaaa.

Recent important additions to our cd collection 🐢

Recent important additions to our c.d. collection. I can listen to this song a LOT before I get sick of it.Β

Hooray! "How to Get Dressed" by one of my fave @xojanedotcom writers, @alisonfreer arrived! Already I'm loving the chapter on laundry (and relieved that I'm doing it mostly right) ✨

I’d had this book in my wish list for a long time and went ahead and ordered it recently. I was relieved while reading the chapter on laundry to discover that I’m doing it mostly right! Mostly.

Oh Baddiewinkle! βœ¨πŸ’šβœ¨

Not into Baddie Winkle yet? You should be! She basically has my dream wardrobe.

Hangin' with my homies. 🎾

Celebrating National Dog Day with a couple of dogs.

Surprisingly tasty!

1985?! This chick looks like a modern-day hipster.

Hey nostalgic weirdos (like myself), did you know that Old School episodes of “Reading Rainbow” are on Netflix? I couldn’t believe this chick from the first episode (1985!), looking exactly like a modern-day hipster. The more things change, eh?

Recovering from a root canal, and the dogs are being very sweet. πŸ’›

Last Monday, root canal day. Being comforted by Schnubs.

With my Birthday Broad, @corinne_spoja πŸ’–πŸ’•βœ¨

Did I ever blog about The Broad’s birthday dinner? I feel like the answer is yes, and yet–I don’t remember posting this picture. I offered up “The Crab Cracker” in Kirkland as a possible dinner option, and she went for it. Here we are after stuffing our faces.

Celebrating the beautiful busty @corinne_spoja's b-day tonight with creme brûlée 😍

My Broad enjoying her birthday creme brulee. Josh and I split a piece of coconut creme pie with Lorna Doone crust that was incredible. Let’s face it, I’m basically only dieting now so I can eat my way through New York. Makes sense, rrrrrright?

A little green-spiration at “Display & Costume” a few weeks ago.

Oof! That blog entry ended up taking a whole lot longer than planned due to about 42395482942534 different distractions. How do writers do it? REAL writers I mean. If you find out, let me know.
