All I wanna do is have some fun

All I wanna do is have some fun

Our first outing with the baby at Marymoor Park was foiled by losing Maggie! Luckily a nice lady from Portland found her and called me on my cellphone before we started to REALLY panic. Friggin' dogs!
Howdy blog! This was last Sunday, a beautiful sunny day and what SHOULD have been a lovely relaxing family outing to Marymoor Park…foiled because we LOST MAGGIE. It happened pretty quickly after we got to the park. Both dogs pooped at the same time, I was bending over to pick up Bear Cub’s poop and Josh and I noticed that Maggie was gone. No big deal, she usually runs ahead of us to the water, so we went to the water…and still no Maggie. We ended up splitting up and walking all over the park searching for her. The baby was fussing on and off and my plantar fasciitis was rearin’ up and I was just starting to verge on panic (or at least, anxiety) when my cell phone rang and it was a nice lady from Portland who had found Maggie wandering around in the parking lot! I gave her a huge hug and thanked her repeatedly and then WE LEFT BECAUSE THE PARK TRIP WAS RUINED, THANKS A LOT MAGGIE.

πŸ’™πŸ’™
It was the first time in 11 years I had lost her, not a bad track record. Still, never expected to lose Maggie. Bear Cub, sure, she’s an independent Cub. Thank God for nice ladies from Portland.

I have this thing for Jemaine Clement. ❀
Crushing on Jemaine Clement as a vampire in “What We Do in the Shadows”. A cute little mockumentary about vampires.

My Erte notebook is pretty pretty. 🌟
Isn’t the Erte design on this notebook gorgeous? Josh bought this for me. It contains many sketches by me of his butt. You understand.

Anyone have suggestions on how I can polish this metal tree without screwing it up? ✨
This metal tree needs polishing, but I’m scared to ruin it. What should I use?

Sweet little spring daffodils. πŸ’›
Here come the daffodils! I love this time of year.

The elusive rainbow unicorn! 🌈🌈🌈
I was VERY excited to put the rainbow unicorn onesie on him! Too bad all of his 3 month clothes baaaarely fit, my little chunk! Sigh.

Don't know who Zendaya is, but I'm really into this outfit. 🌟
I am inexplicably drawn to this outfit. I think it’s the combination of seersucker + big pants…I love both of those things. Once a raver, always a raver.

Love these grape hyacinth. πŸ’œ
Here’s what my baby week has entailed: lots of breastfeeding. Still pumping one bottle a day for Josh to give him at night (more like 4 in the morning). He is sleeping from 10-3 or 4, and then until 6, and then usually has a nap at 10/11 and another one at 3/4 in the afternoon. He smiles a lot, coos and says “Ah-Goo”. My nickname for him right now is Goo. He is sooooo cute, it hurts. He’s starting to look at the dogs, which I love.

Current workstation (not pictured: a fine coating of glitter on everything ✨).
Here’s what my non-baby week has entailed: finished my first little dollhouse painting, now I’m just decorating the easel and it’s going up for sale in my Etsy shop. Became super annoyed with the Joan Crawford painting and painted over it, OOPS! Try try again. Watching a lot of “Sex and the City” in the afternoons. Walking the dogs and sometimes the baby every day. Occasionally lifting weights (okay once this week). Went clothes shopping for the first time, post-partum, and was very humbled by the experience. Texted my cousin Erika to tell her about this experience, and she told me that she’s pregnant again! With another boy! We are meant to be boy moms.

Anyone lose a big white exercise ball? πŸ˜‚
Look it’s a white stability ball in the middle of a marsh! How bizarre.

I like neons in the springtime (ok I like neons ALL of the time πŸ’–).
C’est moi, yesterday, in one of my new larger shirts to accommodate my new giant boobs. Hooray for neon!

It was all yellow.
Expect a lot of flower pictures over the next few months.

Hope your Friday is out of this world! πŸ‘½
That brings us around to today, in his cute little alien outfit! I was SO looking forward to this outfit, and now he barely fits into it! Good grief, we’re gonna be in 6 month outfits sooner than I thought. Happy Spring, blog-logs!

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Josh shows off new exciting uses for chip clips.
Hellerrr, blerrrrg. The baby is down for a nap, Josh is doing yardwork and I just remembered during my pumping session that I didn’t blog this week. Roops! Here’s Josh showing off exciting new hairstyles using chip clips.

Back at the gym this morning for the 1st time since baby arrived. You gotta start somewhere! πŸ’ͺ
Look it’s me! Back at the gym for the first time last weekend, and it felt so gooood. I also went yesterday after breakfast. I’m still on the bicycle for cardio and haven’t graduated back to the treadmill or elliptical (stupid plantar fasciitis), but at least I’m on Level 6 instead of my pregnancy Level 2. Progress!

Here come the crocuses in the front yard. πŸ’œπŸ’›
Tomorrow is the first day of spring hooray! My favorite season. Today is the only sunny day forecasted this week so the whole fam is going out for a sunny park trip sometime this afternoon.

Crocuses in the backyard. πŸ’œ
I love these purple and white crocuses in the backyard.

Father and son. πŸ’™
Ohhh these cuties. Baby M. will finish his 9th week of life and start his 10th on Tuesday. He smiles and coos and says “Ah-Goo” and I love him so much, it’s ridiculous.

Soggy Sunday! πŸ’¦
Lots of wet, muddy walks this week. One day I made the mistake of wearing the barefoot Brooks that are partly mesh and they got SOAKED, all through my socks. Made for a squishy walk but I still did a mile.

Had a Broad date today--we painted our nails, pet kitties, and then I watched her hoop in her underwear. Score!
Last Sunday I pumped an extra bottle so that I could go see my Broad for a Broad Date. We painted our nails with her expensive Jamberry polish, pet kitties, and then she stripped down to her underwear and showed off her hooping skills. She hoops every day now for at least an hour! I’m so proud of her. Made me want to dust off my own hoop…sometime.

Enjoying a little silver glitter on my nails before they start to chip in 3...2...
I hadn’t painted my nails in months. I like glitter polish because it camouflages chips the best. Also: because glitter.

The subject of my first mini painting is Louise Brooks, of course! I've painted her 4 times and I'm not bored yet. (top left is still for sale, btw)
For my first mini painting I went with an old favorite, Louise Brooks!

Starting the Lulu mini painting.
Initial stages of the Lulu painting. I’m at the glitter stage, presently.

Babies make you better multitaskers--here's Josh drawing and holding his son at the same time. πŸ’•
I’m not the only one creating art around here. Here’s Joshy multitasking–drawing and holding his son at the same time. Talent!

πŸ’•
I hope Baby M. is an artist too.

Bear Cub is relaxed.
Bear Cub, relaxed. She’s currently snoring at my feet as I type this.

Josh's snowflake/disco ball decoration in the kitchen. "Do we get to take the snowflakes down in five days when winter is over?" I asked him yesterday. (Side note: YAY SPRING)
Josh’s disco ball and snowflake decorations in the kitchen, which I’m planning on taking down tomorrow. Down with the snow! Up with the flowers!

Finally--a rain break!
I’m currently attempting to read a biography of Marilyn (and failing). We’ve been re-watching “Deadwood” at night…it’s even better the second time around. It’s a shame it only lasted three seasons. Seems like all the shows we like best don’t last.

Hey! "Aqua Floral Mandala" is still for sale. 🌸🌼🌸
I was downstairs painting and my pink turban caught my eye, all neglected on a wig head, so I thought I had better take care of it! It still had the price tag on it from our trip to NYC, how sad! After I posted this picture on IG, my old old old olllld blogfriend Laila offered to buy the Mandala! Woo hoo!

Today was nice. 🌞
Not right away, but sometime this year. Which is fine by me…it’s not like my paintings are going anywhere, any time soon. This past week would have been the RAW show that I was asked to join, and I wanted to, I really did…but maybe when Baby M. is a little older. I am still breastfeeding a LOT at this point.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’š
Friday was St. Patrick’s Day, and it was Josh’s idea to dress M. up in this swaddle blanket wrapped as a tiny kilt! I DIE! I had dressed up as well to get in the picture, but we were lucky to get one photo where he was not crying/screaming.

Maggie dog says "Rappy Raint Ratrick's Ray!" Turns out elder dogs are easier to pose than babies. πŸ€πŸ€
Maggie on the other hand, was comparatively easy to pose. My elder dog!

First baby date! All boys, all adorable.
Friday afternoon Baby M. and I had our very first solo outing in the car together…all the way to Bellevue! It took us only 36 minutes to drive there but a whopping hour and ten minutes to drive home, thanks to rain (groan) (there’s always rain, come on people) and gross Friday afternoon traffic. I met up with two ladies I had met through my fertility clinic and their beautiful baby boys.

“Our son looks like a tank,” remarked Josh when he saw the photos.

@espedp laid out a beautiful spread for our baby date yesterday--croissants, cream cheese and fresh fruit. Too bad we had to eat in shifts! πŸ˜‚
A lovely lunch was laid out–but we spent most of the time walking/burping/feeding/changing our babies. I did manage to shove a couple of cream cheese slathered mini croissants and fresh fruit into my maw in between caring for my son. Who sits down and eats at a normal pace with a newborn?! It’s not possible.

Swamp Cub! πŸ’¦
The drive gave me a lot more confidence about traveling with my son in the future. It can be done! He gets a little fussy at stoplights, but not a peep while we’re on the freeway. Phewwwwww.

Today's dogwalk required Wellies. β˜”οΈ
Yesterday’s dogwalk was REALLY rainy. I’m looking forward to getting out in the sun today! Let’s go!

Oh yes it’s Ladies Night, and the feeling’s right!

Oh yes it’s Ladies Night, and the feeling’s right!

πŸ’™
Hola blog! Mumsie is cuddling with Baby M. while I type out my weekly blog entry…while simultaneously holding a hot compress on my left nipple. Motherhood has made me a master class multitasker.

I thought I was over shows about zombies, but along came "Santa Clarita Diet". It's adorable!
This week’s nighttime viewing (while cluster feeding) show: “The Santa Clarita Diet”. Cutest show about zombies you’ll ever see. I was resistant to watching it at first, but hooked by the end.

First signs of spring hit our backyard! 🌱
Spring is starting to hit our backyard.

Sunny family walkies. πŸ’š
I love our family walkies.

Tummy Time to Deee-Lite radio on Pandora (note the dogs in the background).
This particular Tummy Time session was to Deee-Lite radio.

First family outing to a dog park: complete! 🌲
Last weekend (Saturday? Sunday? Who can say) we had our first outing to a big dog park. The BOB stroller handled the roots wonderfully! And although there was an initial screamfest in the car that required a breastfeeding session (in the garage, before take-off), the baby was quiet during the entire trip to the park, and both car rides. Phewwwwww. I know they have to cry occasionally. But I don’t have to like it!

Put in contacts today for the first time in ??? It's easy to let self-care slide while taking care of a newborn. Maybe in two weeks I'll be able to paint my toenails!
Feeling like myself again, including wearing contacts for the first time in ???. I even painted my toe-nails this week!

Wow. What an incredibly gorgeous mama.
We didn’t watch the Grammy Awards, but I caught a pregnant-with-twins Beyonce on Youtube the next morning and was blown away by her look, performance and whole vibe. Gorgeous. Almost makes me want to be pregnant again (JUST KIDDING).

What a beautiful day! 🌞
I enlisted the help of my friendly neighbor to watch Baby M. while I take the dogs for a quick daily walk, and it’s been wonderfully therapeutic. Especially when the sun is shining.

Afternoon disco dance party to Donna Summer radio..."Ladies Night" by Kool and the Gang really made him bop around.
Afternoon dance parties in the sunny nursery to “Ladies Night” are also fantastic! Look at this little man.

I had been waiting to put these booties on him, and now they're almost too small! He has big feet like his mom. So proud! πŸ‘£
I waited to put this adorable booties on him, and now at nearly 6 weeks old guess what? They’re too small! He sure has his mother’s big feet.

Josh and I don't normally celebrate Valentine's Day, but what the hay, motherhood has made me sentimental. Happy Valentine's Day! @djmagicelf πŸ’šπŸ’™β€(homemade card circa 2008, the year we got married)
Mothering a newborn made it impossible to go out and get Joshy anything for Valentine’s Day (or even the day before Valentine’s Day, which is what we usually celebrate). He brought me home a card, some little presents, and a heart-shaped chocolate cake though. He’s so gooooood.

Adorable homemade card from my MIL to Baby M.. πŸ’–
Love the monster card Fleeta made for Baby M.. She’s always so thoughtful.

Josh bought me this fun decorative ball last night, which immediately began shedding gold glitter all over our son. Eh, he's five weeks old, time to start experiencing what this household is all about! ✨🌟✨
Josh bought me this fun decorative ball, which immediately began shedding all over the house and our son’s head. Sparkle, baby!

Nature Cub! 🌲
These dogs follow me around the house allll day long. I suppose they always did, but I thought maybe Bear Cub would distance herself from the baby. Wrong! She’s a protective Cub.

The bright-eyed and calm moments are wonderful. And the smiles! I've requested more smiles! πŸ’™
This week he’s been smiling more and just recently started cooing at me, which I love so much there is no way I’m going to break focus and take a picture! So he looks serious in all of his pictures.

Monday. πŸ’™
So much love.

I have been so lucky this week to have someone watch the baby long enough for me to take the dogs for a walk...and 3 out of 4 of those days were sunny! Take THAT, crappy forecast! 🌞
My photos haven’t changed all that much, there’s just a lot more…baby.

Special thanks to @algae13 today, who allowed me to walk the dogs and eat a meal (without breast-feeding at the same time), and who cuddled Baby M. into a nap and lent us some groovy baby carriers! Mwah! 😘
Thursday Josh’s old boss came over in the morning and let me walk the dogs, eat lunch (without breastfeeding at the same time), snuggled the baby AND lent me some fancy schmnancy baby carriers to wear! This purple one is one of them. It’s similar to the Moby. He fussed at first but I hypnotized him by bouncing on the stability ball and then he chilled out.

Come on, spring!
More spring in the backyard.

Just ducky. πŸ’™
Spotted on our dog walk yesterday.

My mother visiting meant TWO dog walks today! Woo hoo! And look who decided to go for a swim on the way home. Labs.
Maggie dog had to jump in the nearest body of water right as we were leaving the park, of course!

Grandma and Baby M.. πŸ’•
Mumsie flew into town Thursday night, and it’s been wonderful having her here. Yesterday I was able to take two dog walks, and we brought home Hawaiian food to eat for dinner last night, mmmmm.

Somebody's been a little fussbucket the last two nights...but he's still awfully cute.
He’s had two super fussy nights in a row, but who’s counting? I’m pretty happy if I can piece together 5 hours of sleep per night.

Drizzly walk today. πŸ’¦
Today’s walk…oh, I hear my baby crying! I can’t believe I made it through this entire blog entry. Catch you later!

Is it spring yet?

Is it spring yet?

Today I successfully stuffed my 9 pound 11 oz (😳) baby into the Moby wrap, put a jacket over the top, and slooowly walked one dog at a time around the block, no crying! You gotta celebrate the little victories.
Hey-o blog! This photo was taken a week ago, the first day I successfully managed to get Baby M. into the Moby wrap, cover it with a coat, and slowwwly walk one dog at a time around our neighborhood. He does well in the Moby wrap when he’s tired, thankfully. Unfortunately, my back does not!

I don't usually post inspirational messages, but this one spoke to me today. Also I really love the look of bright florals against black (thanks @ashleylongshoreart) πŸ’–
From the IG account of Ashley Longshore, a fun New Orleans artist I’ve followed ever since Christopher recommended her to me. I like the message, and I also like bright florals against black.

This morning's reading selections. πŸ“š
The goal is one book a day, and sometimes we make it, sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we read four books to make up!

Huh?
Ughhhh yeaaaaaahhhh OVER IT.

"What's it all about?"
Oh man, I love this picture. Look at that double chin (his, not mine). Delicious.

First baby sponge bath: a success. And I finally got an adequate amount of sleep for the first time in 3 days, so I feel like a new woman. 🌞
It’s safe to say that he likes to snuggle.

Got my dog walk in today (in the rain). 🌈
This was the first day that I got adequate sleep (a real smile!), followed by two or three nights of two hour sleep, after which I was just about at the end of my rope so I went to our new GP and successfully re-started 50 mg of Trazodone. I’m the sort of person that can’t handle sleep deprivation well, AT ALL, and Trazzie is minimally excreted into breast milk. Now I’m sleeping again, Josh is sleeping, the baby is sleeping, and all is well.

A little rain never bothers these PNW dogs.
I enlisted my neighbor to come over and watch the baby today so I could take the girls for a (windy rainy and coooold) dog walk. It was a welcome break! And she is happy to do it, besides. It’s great having neighbors that are willing to help you out.

Dinner with the great-grandparents. Shirley is a Baby Whisperer.
Sunday night, dinner at Grandma Shirley’s place. Look at how relaxed M. is here…she is the Baby Whisperer.

I would like to sleep this soundly. 😴
Such a little man.

Sunday rainy day walkies.
Walking before the Superbowl on Sunday, baby strapped on.

Snow day!
Monday morning…GROSS.

Father and son. πŸ’•
We took the baby for his check-up and he is already over 10 pounds!

Well, we got through one book today. πŸ‡
I think Peta gave us this book, and personally knows the author? My baby shower seems like it was a loooooong time ago.

This beautiful boy is one month old today. 🌟
On Tuesday Baby M. turned one month old. ALREADY ONE MONTH OLD. Soon he’s gonna be a surly teenager.

First successful outing with the Bob and dogs. We only lasted about ten minutes because of all the snow and slippery ice.
I was so desperate for a dogwalk on Tuesday that I loaded up the dogs and baby and Bob, drove to the park, and once there realized that the amount of snow and ice on the ground was way more than I had anticipated! We lasted about ten minutes. Still, that was our first solo outing to the park…you gotta celebrate the little victories.

M. and Maggie, ever protective.
Maggie and Bear Cub are really good with him.

Yesterday we wore stripes.
Tuesday was my most sleep-deprived day yet, and that was when I took this picture.

“You look about thirteen in that picture,” said my mother over the phone, “But so tired!” I was. But luckily things have straightened out.

Currently reading.
Currently reading.

I always liked the Brady Brunch movie from the 90s better than the original show.
I love RuPaul. Last night I typed in “RuPaul” to Youtube and just watched an hour straight of RuPaul interviews on various talk shows. So many great sound bytes!

Adventures in Babywearing: the rain washed away all the snow and ice today, so I was able to strap on my baby and take the girls for a quick nature walk. Although ohhh my back! He wasn't a ten pound baby when I was pregnant with him!
Voila! Good-bye snow! AND DON’T COME BACK.

Yesterday. Slouchy beanie (not so slouchy on my big head) by @corinne_spoja πŸ’–
The Broad made that slouchy beanie…which isn’t so slouchy on my big head.

This is a good one.
Last night I had a fierce craving for Mongolian Grill…and it did not disappoint. I liked my fortune, too.

"All we are saying," says Baby M., "Is give peace a chance." Today's cute little outfit thanks to @flynnpobrien and @curleyobrien 😘
This morning I dressed M. in a new little outfit sent by my cousin Flynn and his wife Molly. I realized later after looking at the picture that M. was flashing me the peace sign. So cute!

Threw Maggie a tennis ball this morning and she returned with this.
I threw a tennis ball to Maggie this morning, and she returned with this. Hmmm.

That’s it! My past week. Some lows (sleep deprivation), some highs (first bath, first successful solo babywearing/stroller outings). We’re all getting through this newborn stage, one day at a time. And in the meantime, he sure is cute to look at. So long blog, it’s time for my dinner.

Let’s look back at 2016

Let’s look back at 2016

Hola blog! It’s that time of year when I force myself to do a yearly re-cap. I actually climbed onto the computer to print out a recipe for lactation cookies, but while I’m here, hells bells, why not re-cap what I did in 2016? Let’s take it month by month.

January 2016

Pre-surgery glamour, darling. πŸ’‹
Uterine polyp removal in preparation for IVF

– started hormone injections for IVF

– completed three heart-shaped Mandala paintings for sale HERE!

February 2016

Amazing glass at the Chihuly museum.
– Josh and I finally go to the Chihuly glass art museum downtown (worth it)

– ended the full-time job I’d had for the past couple of years, panicked for a week or two, and then signed on with a PRN position. Phewwwwww.

Pre-surgery for egg retrieval. They retrieved 14, above average! 🌟

– had my egg retrieval on my father’s 65th birthday (February 9th)

– found out that the two frozen embryos were both boys, and had a hearty laugh with my fertility doctor

– trimmed down coffee consumption from 3 cups a day to 1 cup (HELL)

March 2016

Is it done? Is it done yet? Finishing a painting is always the hardest part. πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨
Finished the neon glitter Mandala, which is definitely one of my faves. Available here!

scenic pond
Josh and I go to the Seattle Arboretum, in spite of the fact that my back is all messed up. I never did figure out why I had back problems for a few days/weeks, but it suuuuucked.

Caftan Number 2 purchased. My Year of the Caftan is off to a good start! Now I need to stop buying and start sewing them myself, sheesh.
I decide that 2016 is going to be the Year of the Caftan and buy two caftans, to that end. (note: sitting here GIANT at 9 months pregnant, I can’t BELIEVE how tiny my waist looks in that caftan, sob!)

– painted our bedroom
– started going to an IVF support group

Getting ready to caucus this morning. 🌈
Caucused for Bernie! (SIGH)

April 2016

First time on Mt. Rainier. Are we having fun yet? 🌟
Josh and I had competed against each other earlier in the year for a “Dietbet” and he won (I’m pretty sure he cheated by fasting, but whatever). My “punishment” was that I had to go skiing, but by the time April rolled around and my back was finally not screwed up, not much skiing was to be found so I was “punished” by walking in snow on Mount Rainier instead. It wasn’t terrible!

Finished painting the guest room last night. The "true" colors are really hard to capture via photo, but it's "Soothing lavender" on the top and "Periwinkle dream" on the bottom. Hi Jerry!
Painted the guest room.

Olympic Sculpture Park.
Downtown Seattle fun with Fleeta and Bob–Pike Place Market, and checking out the Olympic Sculpture Park.

Embarking on an "easy" 5K this morning on Tiger Mountain. I panted like a dog the entire time. Josh is training for a marathon and didn't even break a sweat! πŸ’ͺ
First trail run! An “easy” 5K up Tiger Mountain.

– April 28th: the day of my IVF transfer! One perfect little male embryo, which the nurse exclaimed looked “better than textbook”. Aw yeah.

May 2016

– started progesterone suppositories for IVF

A couple of dorks touring a chocolate factory for funsies.
Josh and I tour the Theo chocolate factory for funsies (and distraction) and while there, get the Very Important Phone Call that I’m pregnant! YAYYYY! We immediately burst into happy tears. Such a special moment.

– first ultrasound, post-transfer

June 2016

dogs in nature
First camping trip! Not only did we set a camping record for us this year–five times–but I did every single one of those trips pregnant.

– I finish Corinne’s cat paintings and start a project for the guest room

First archery lesson tonight with Josh. 🎯🎯🎯
Josh and I take an archery class together. He’s better than I am, but I’m not too resentful about it.

– started going back to the gym

This maniac ran the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon in the rain this morning! πŸ’ͺ
Josh runs the Rock and Roll Marathon; I do not join him.

Little Ronia is growing up fast.
Josh leaves his hormonal pregnant wife for EIGHT WHOLE DAYS to go float down a river or something so I spend one night at Brenna’s, because I am so lonely. It’s not the daytime loneliness that bothered me, it was the nighttime.

July 2016

🚼
Posted our “official” (12 weeks) pregnancy announcement to all forms of social media

Bear Cub doesn't look like a bear cub any more! 😱
Bear Cub gets trimmed a little TOO much and is re-christened “Goat Cub”

– thanks to Groupon, I receive my first facial (overrated)

– went and got a shellac manicure for the first time since January…but very quickly realized that shellac manicures are a waste of money when you’re pregnant. Your nails grow too quickly!

Maggie takes it easy
Camping trip number two!

@djmagicelf and @corinne_spoja and I ready to see Die Antwoord tonight woot wooooot! 🌟
Baby’s first concert: Die Antwoord! With my Broad.

Maggie and Bear Cub splash around Hyas Lake. πŸ’¦
Camping trip number three!

Tonight I said goodbye to my VW Passat that I've had for the past 10 years. Good-bye old girl! You were so lovely in concept but such a problem child in reality!
Said good-bye to my VW Passat wagon, which I loved but caused me a great deal of trouble during our 10 years together…

Hey there, sexy. 😍
…and HELLO to this sexy blue Subaru outback, which I love but am a little sad that now I have to make 500$ car payments for every month. Heigh ho.

– Josh and I and the girls hike to Twin Falls (2.5 miles but much harder while pregnant)

Tonight! πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨ Let's get celebritied up!
My Broad and I go see the new “Ab Fab” movie together. She tried to get out of it (twice!) but I wouldn’t let her. It was great!

FINALLY at the Mod Podge (i.e. last) stage of this painting. This little side project for the guest room ended up taking way longer than I thought! 🎨
Finally finish this Polly Apfelbaum rip-off painting for our guest room.

August 2016

In honor of #bumpday, here is my bump! He just popped out this week and I'm happy to finally look pregnant, not just like I've been eating too many donuts. 🍩
At 16 weeks pregnant, my belly POPS! Aw, look at how tiny and cute it was.

Josh bought me a little lemon tree for our anniversary. I hope I don't kill it immediately. πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹
Joshy and I celebrate our 8-year anniversary…he bought me a little lemon tree. Would you believe it’s still alive? And on the back patio, yet? Amazing.

Camping love.
Camping trip number 4! The first actually warm trip, too. Thank goodness.

More progress on the Mandala.
Started a new Mandala painting, which ended up taking wayyyyyy longer than I thought it would to finish.

My crazy-ass husband doing a headstand on a paddle board. @djmagicelf 😘
A very special (final) camping trip to a private island, where I got to witness my husband doing a headstand on a paddleboard. Who knew he had hidden talents?

BUMP. Enjoying my "beauty room" for a few more months before it becomes the baby room.
At 18 weeks pregnant, I made the decision to quit weighing myself (a very smart decision and I highly recommend it). Of course, this was a little easier to do because Josh broke the scale right around that time. Tempting to just never buy a scale again!

Look at where Josh hiked to today without me--Blanca Lake! I've wanted to go for ages but it's too arduous for my pregnant body. 😭
Josh makes me mad by hiking one of my bucket list lakes without me, Lake Blanca. Heigh ho! He said it was HARD. Well then. GOOD.

My cute cousin Erika and her equally cute son Cash.
Erika and her two sons come for a visit! We go to Pike Place Market, she cooks for me AND sets up the crib and we have a fabulous time.

September 2016

Tonight we met Mr. Bennett. 😍
We meet Mr. Bennett–Ronia’s birthday present–for the first time.

Mumsie and me.
I spend a fun week in Boise with my parents and the Little Nipper, and feel Baby M. kick for the first time! So exciting!

Josh and his 90-year-old grandmother at breakfast this morning.
Josh and I drive to Spokane so he can climb a mountain with his father, while Fleeta and I do a little baby shopping. Then before we drive home, we have breakfast with his 90-year-old grandmother. Isn’t this a cute picture?

Got the baby room painted. I think it needs a cute border, though. Dinosaurs?
Finished painting the nursery, but found it kind of boring, so I start searching for the perfect wallpaper border.

First minkie/flannel blankie for my son: complete! βœ‚οΈ
Made a couple of minkie-and-flannel baby blankets for my son (this one was my favorite).

Putting up the dinosaur border in the nursery today. πŸ’š
Found the perfect border for the nursery–dinosaurs!

One last ultrasound today to make sure our little dude's heart is okay (it is). πŸ’–
Had a special ultrasound to make sure the little guy’s heart is okay…and of course it is!

October 2016

Today's art project was painting a friend's little neighborhood library. 🌈
Went over to Shoshanna’s house to paint her little free library

Made some green curtains for the nursery to match the dinosaur border. πŸ’š
Made some curtains for the nursery

The quilt I made my mother looks pretty good in our guest room.
Fleeta sweetly fixes up this quilt that I made for my parents and returns it to me, where it’s currently residing in our guest room. It looks pretty good in the guest room!

Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks?
Started ramp training the pets to prepare them for having to be in the BACK back of the car, once Baby M. comes

A couple of happy pregnant ladies in florals. We are due 2 weeks apart, with boys.
Josh and I attend our first non-work-related baby shower…

…and the same afternoon, we take the tripod to the park and snap some maternity pics before the sun completely disappears.

Phase 3 of ombrΓ©-fying the free dresser: complete! We only spent money on the drawer pulls. Total cost: less than 20$.
We obtain a hideous brown dresser from “Buy Nothing” and completely transform it into this cool ombre work of art for the nursery! I guess Pinterest is good for something.

My friend Espe, who is due two weeks after me with a boy, takes some beautiful maternity photos of me at a park, for free! She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.

"That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, Homeskillet." Happy Halloween from Juno and Paulie Bleeker!
Josh and I dress up as Juno and Paulie Bleeker from the film “Juno”. Not the most exciting Halloween costumes ever, but it’s really hard doing Halloween when you’re a big sweaty pregnant lady. We set up a grueling game of Scrabble in the parlor and handed out Halloween candy to the hoards of tricker treaters, and that was good enough for us!

November 2016

-voted, hoped for the best, found out the WORST, mourned for an entire day and then decided for the sake of my son that I couldn’t perseverate over the sadness. Also: pulled out my Happy Light that I hadn’t used since 2009 and started using it every morning!

The latest Mandala painting, fully glittered. Now I just have to decide if it's really "done", or just done because I'm sick of working on it! 😝
Finally finished this friggin’ Mandala painting, although I’m not totally satisfied with it and therefore haven’t listed it in my shop.

Four pregnant bellies all in a row, all due with boys early next year.
My cousin Erika comes to town and throws me the most fantastic baby shower at Brenna’s house, and still hasn’t sent me the pictures for it! Ha ha. I wonder if I’ll ever get them?

Delicious Indian dinner with family and friends.
My mother, aunt Claire, and cousin Katie also came into town for the shower. It was really wonderful. I felt very loved. And thank God, nobody brought up politics the entire time.

Lisa, who has been one of my good friends for almost 20 years, and her three goofy/adorable children.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, a drive to Spokane, and baby shower number two (I’m terribly spoiled), Josh and I got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning from a local taco truck. We barely managed to scrape ourselves together to make the drive, but I’m glad we did. We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with both sets of our parents and his grandmother, and then the next day I had another sweet baby shower and saw my ooooooold friend Lisa and all of her children! Maw.

My parents trying to feel their grandson kick. I was told this week he's measuring in the 92nd percentile. Already an overachiever! πŸ˜…
Love this picture of my parents trying to coax a kick from the baby.

December 2016

– finished up a painting for Baby M.’s room (this is when the link between Instagram and Flickr shit the bed, so I don’t have a picture)

– Josh and I spend my birthday/”Babymoon” at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle, relaxing and eating lots of things

– Josh gets heavily into glitter beards, and I support him!

– Owen invites me to participate in his annual art show, but I am too big and pregnant so we just attend the show instead and stay for an hour and a half. Still Good Times!

– Josh does up an elaborate glitter/tiny Christmas light beard, I wear a muumuu and we wrap me in Christmas bulbs, and we take our Christmas card picture!

Glittered up for Brenna's solstice party tonight. ✨
Winter Solstice party at Brenna’s house.

Josh and my Broad at grandma's tonight. ❀️❀️
I am too pregnant to travel, so we do Christmas Eve at Grandma Shirley’s, with the Broad…

Unicorn Snot! (with photobomb by Ronia) ✨🌟✨
…and the next day, we do Christmas Day at our house. Josh’s parents, sister and sister’s family all came over and we feasted on lasagna that I had made the day before, exchanged presents, and had a nice time. Our first Christmas at our house, and our last Christmas before the baby comes!

And that brings us up to date, blog logs! Stay tuned later this week and I’ll let you know how we PARTIED DOWN for New Years Eve, bwa ha haaaaa. 2016: you were one interesting year. I refuse to do what so many people on the Internet are doing, which is write-off the ENTIRE YEAR as crap, because this was the year that I finally got pregnant after 6 years of nonsense and there is no replicating that bliss. I can’t wait for 2017!

Birthday birthday!

Hi blog. Unfortunately right now either Flickr and/or Instagram is being a Pain in my Ass and not letting me upload my Instagram pictures to Flickr, so I’m going to have to post them this way. Hopefully this works, because I’m very hungry right now and don’t have much in the way of patience. Here’s me and another pregnant lady I know, also pregnant with a boy, due one month behind me. Boy Mommas Unite!

My birthday was on Saturday, but the birthday cards started trickling in last week. Here’s a cute one from Josh’s grandma.

The top card is a fun homemade card from Fleeta; the bottom two are from my mother. Very Liz appropriate!

Here’s the little fan I bought myself at the hardware store that I drag around to cool off my hot pregnant body. I’ve brought it to work, to birth classes and even to my appointments with my OB, because her office is so hot!

Every day I’m neeeestiiiiiing. Here’s a cute little mushroom lamp from Amazon, in the nursery. Maw.

Lately Maggie’s been running next door, feasting on cat poop and then rushing home with a big, shit-eating grin. What a disgusting animal!

Would you believe at 8.5 months pregnant I’m still dragging my carcass to the gym and working out? It’s true. I sit on the bike for 20 minutes to warm up and then I do a circuit of body weight machines, two sets of 15 reps. I feel better about myself when I do.

Saturday, for my birthday. I felt pretty neutral about my birthday this year, I wasn’t particularly excited (does anyone past the age of 30 get excited about birthdays?), and I certainly wasn’t depressed. My friend Shoshanna, who recently had her second girl baby on Halloween, lent me this “Pea in the Pod” dress to wear to my baby shower, which I didn’t, but I wore it all day on my birthday.

My face hasn’t changed too much with this pregnancy. Still have a little cheekbone left! I’m 34 weeks and 3 days, as of the writing of this blog entry.

For my birthday this year we booked one night at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle, just like we did waaaay back in 2012 (doesn’t seem that long ago but it was!). We boarded the dogs with our favorite boarder and headed over in the afternoon. We ate Top Pot donuts and I opened presents and then we went out to dinner at the Blue Acre. We tried to branch out and attempted to get reservations at two different Italian restaurants before we decided to go back to the Blue Acre. Well, the food is always good!

He finally made me a container of all red candy for a birthday present. Maw.

Of course, no trip to downtown Seattle in December would be complete without gawking at the Christmas lights and stopping by Sephora!

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

I had a shopping list for Sephora (as I go there maybe twice a year), but they didn’t have half the items so I wound up buying a new Dr. Jart BB cream, one Urban Decay eyeshadow and a new tube of eyeshadow primer. I let a gay with beautiful curled eyelashes spritz lots of citrus-y perfumes on strips for me to smell, and took home a sample of a unisex Hermes mandarin perfume. I decided not to buy the “Fresh” grapefruit perfume, once again. I can’t justify spending 90 dollars on a perfume that I’m not totally in love with.

It was cold and my nice wool coat won’t close over my big pregnant belly, so we didn’t stay out as long as we could have.

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

We did make a stop at the Doc Martens store, where I spied THESE GLITTER DOCS. Now how many years have I been prattling on about my obsession for glitter Docs? Hmmm? TWENTY? I may have to force my husband to buy these for me for Christmas.

Back at the hotel we read books and cuddled and ate chocolate and stayed up until AT LEAST 10:30! Rock on!

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

The next morning, horribly, I woke up at 5. I forced Josh to wake up at 6 and then we went to Ludi’s for breakfast. My feet were killing me and my Braxton Hicks contractions were flaring up really bad on the walk over, and then once we got there a crackhead would not stop playing country music and the bloody Eagles on the jukebox (I hate the Eagles), so breakfast kind of sucked, but later on I was able to take an hour long nap and we relaxed until it was time to check out at noon.

I also glittered up Josh’s beard for the Sunday Seahawks game. Pretty pretty? It must have been good luck, because they won!

I’m 97.55555% sure I’m finished with this painting, for the nursery.

I always thought that 3D ultrasounds were creepy, but then I finally had my first one yesterday, and I think it’s the most beautiful thing ever. Tears immediately sprang to my eyes (then again, they do every time I have an ultrasound, because I am a hormonal pregnant lady).

A photo posted by EP Holcomb (@artwaif) on

Today! The sun was finally shining! And we went back to the big dog park, where we hadn’t been in weeks and weeks! And…and…it was SO MUDDY! Heigh ho. Still had some good times.

On Sunday after picking the dogs up, we bought our Christmas tree (in the middle of a hailstorm). I started decorating it today–got about halfway through the ornaments before I was too fatigued. Our special Christmas ornament this year is this little custom one I ordered from Etsy–you choose the hair and dress color of your pregnant lady, and they add your baby’s name! So cuuuuute. Okay, I am too hungry to write any more. So long!

Finishing a painting, a waterfall, and something new

Finishing a painting, a waterfall, and something new

FINALLY at the Mod Podge (i.e. last) stage of this painting. This little side project for the guest room ended up taking way longer than I thought! 🎨
Hey blerg! I finallyyyyy finished this Polly Apfelbaum rip-off for the guest room that took me, frankly, WAY TOO LONG. I topped it off with 3 coats of Mod Podge and I’m gonna hang it right over the bed.

Beautiful pink rose misted with this morning's rain. πŸ’•
There are lots of beautiful roses to sniff and gawk at outside my work.

Gave myself an Ab Fab manicure to go see the Ab Fab movie tonight with my Broad! 🌟🌟🌟
I finally got around to putting on these cute lil’ Jamberry nails I purchased from the Broad months and months ago. Apparently I didn’t put them on “right”, because two of them started peeling off that night and then I just gave them all a tug and they slid right off! Don’t tell Corinne, but I think the Sally Hansen nail stickers are far superior. Just sayin’. Two weeks versus, like, 7 hours.

Tonight! πŸ’–πŸŒŸβœ¨ Let's get celebritied up!
I did my nails to go see the new “Ab Fab” movie, of course! Corinne had started her period that morning and was GRUMPY AS HELL and tried to cancel on me twice (once as I was on the freeway driving to her house) but I said GET OVER IT and the movie is so good! You should go watch it immediately.

Satur-yay! πŸ’š
Today I am 15 weeks and 3 days pregnant, and my son is the size of an orange. The constant need to feed from the first trimester is over, but the damage has been done! Let’s just say…I don’t even wanna tell you how much weight I’ve gained. Yeah. THAT much.

πŸ’•
We have a mutual goal to start clearing out the closet in the “gym” (ha ha) to make room for my fabric. We have done zero prep for the baby as of yet. I realize we have many months to go…but those months are gonna go by quick!

My family tromping around in a river on the way to Twin Falls. πŸ’¦
Sunday morning we went on a hike to Twin Falls, just a three mile hike (my preference). Hiking is harder in pregnancy. Especially going uphill, oy vey. A moment after this picture was taken Josh slipped on a wet river rock and came down weirdly and hurt his hip. Oh the joys of getting old!

A couple of nerds with Twin Falls behind them. πŸ’¦
Nerds in Love. That’s the waterfall behind us. We had done this hike before, but it had been about 3 years.

Cascading Twin Falls.
Ooooh, ahhhhh. It’s a popular hike. Lots of kids and dogs and even some old people, with walking sticks. Adorable.

Nice view! 🌲
Nice view!

Family Fun time at the park yesterday. Fried chicken and green salad, followed by a solid 10 minutes of "sunbathing" before the panting black dogs made us feel guilty.
Afterwards we picked up fried chicken and green salad and had a picnic at the park, followed by about 10 minutes of “sunbathing” before the hot, panting dogs guilted us into leaving.

Maggie dog at the park yesterday. 🌾
Black dogs don’t like the sunshine so much. I don’t blame them.

It's finally above 80 degrees! Yay Seattle summer! 🌞
Yesterday it was finally above 80 and therefore felt like summer a little bit! I even bought an iced coffee drink and had about 1.5 inches of it before my Pregnancy Guilt settled in.

Tonight I said goodbye to my VW Passat that I've had for the past 10 years. Good-bye old girl! You were so lovely in concept but such a problem child in reality!
Of course the BIG NEWS this week is that last night I finally said good-bye to my VW Passat wagon that I’ve loved/loathed for the past 10 years…

Hey there, sexy. 😍
….and helloooooo to my sexy blue Subaru Outback! You will recall that I have wanted an Outback for many many years, and my dreams finally came true last night. Oh sure, I was sad to say goodbye to the VW, but I must say today all tucked into my new car with that wonderful new car scent, I wasn’t missing it any more! Heh heh heh. Have a fabulous week, bloggeroonies!
