post-dentist phone message

Corinne gave me permission to post a video of the message she left on my phone around 10:30 p.m. recently after a long, involved dentist visit, a shitload of drugs (given to her by the dentist!) and some wild shenanigans involving driving a cart around a grocery store, crashing into people/displays. Classic.

Corinne (as best as I can decipher): (voice is slow and hoarse) Heeeey, it’s me. I’m just becoming coherent enough to have a conversation…tell you how my dentist visit went. My God. I don’t know what drugs they give you but I would hhhighly recommend it to anyone who has a bunch to do and doesn’t..want..to remember it. I’ll talk to you later. Bye.

    1. I got a valium the night before and took halcion the day of. I went in at like ten in the morning and don’t remember anything til about ten at night. Worked great, I am definitely not nervous about going to the dentist again. I hadn’t been in awhile cause my last dentist was ass. I was getting a root canal and could feel it and he didn’t care. So when I went this time I found someone who would be gentle and cared about my comfort. Will not take as much next time I go now that I know how well it works!!

  1. Her dentist is way more pro-giving-drugs than any one I ever had, that’s for sure. He gave her Valium for the night before!!! THE NIGHT BEFORE! Who does that?

  2. As for me, if I’m feeling anxious at the dentist I take a sliver of Xanax. Or a whole one, if I want to sleep. I tried the nitrous once and hated it–felt completely claustrophobic with the mask. They only offer it once, it’s a special “treat”. Uh huh. Afterwards I’ve always been prescribed Vicodin–a small amount.

Which reminds me…I need to go to the dentist. But when? Is there ever a good time? (answer: no)

  3. Haha she sounds like me after I got out of surgery and was all hopped-up on fentanyl and morphine. Thank goodness nobody thought to record the weird shit I was saying.

  4. I’ve had so many good phone messages lost forever because my phone deletes them after 30 days so…I thought I had better preserve this one! 🙂

  5. so yeah, not to sound like a weirdo but I was curious abt clarifying where the drugs came from. I need a dentist that will pre-drug me. It’d benefit the dentist as well. My last experience was seriously like a horror movie to me. It was a place called “gentle dental” which actually seems like a chain sort of dental places?? anyway..one of their benefits is the drugs so I’m like yeah, I’m ready for my xanax now but they refused to give it to me!!! I got the gas which was so weird and awful really. I kept inhaling like as deeply and quickly as possible. I’m sure I was doing this weird mix of gassing/hyperventilating and just weeping the entire time. OH MY GOD! I’m so scared!! I even thought about asking my family doc to prescribe me like 3 pills to use for dental appts. PLEASE. heh.
