A very inspiring film, perfume and mary janes

in this world
Recently (via Hulu) I stumbled upon a bizarre and extremely visually inspirational Czech film from 1966 called “Daisies”. The film is about two teenage girls who decide at the beginning of the film that they are going to “rebel” and set about doing so, but ADORABLY.

Lush backgrounds, sweet little 60’s dresses, loads of black eye make-up, cute feminine haircuts. One of the girls resembles a brunette Bardot; the other has a curly little bob and wears a flower crown throughout the film.

Via Wikipedia: Innovatively filmed, and released a couple of years before the Prague Spring, Daisies was labeled as “depicting the wanton” by the Czech authorities and then banned. Director Chytilová was forbidden to work in her homeland until 1975. Banned movies are always the best! See: “Baby Doll”.

The entire time I was watching this movie, I kept thinking, “I feel like it’s an Ellen Von Unwerth photo come to life!”

fear
During this scene, I thought, that’s IT I’ve seen this image before! So I went to my Flickr, found some of my favorite photos by Ellen Von Unwerth that I saved for inspiration, and lo and behold:

…there it was! I’m always very hard on myself for having a poor memory, but you know? My visual memory is pretty damn good!

butterflies
I strongly recommend this film if you are inspired by beautiful girls (behaving poorly), and enjoy 1960’s New Wave filmmaking techniques. It’s truly one of a kind!

winged eyeliner and hat
It definitely inspired me to give the ol’ winged eyeliner a try again. The Boy likes this look as much as I do.

coffee, phone and perfume
I’ve been drinking more coffee lately–the rainy gloom and doom weather has set in. There’s my happy little phone–I put the stickers on to cover up the logos. The Boy and I went into Whole Foods last Friday because I foolishly thought they might have a low-carb dessert I could eat–WRONG! I did make a quick tour through the beauty aisle, though, and discovered that they carry one of my favorite perfume lines–Pacifica! I did some sniffing and accidently sprayed “Tibetan Mountain Temple” on the sleeve of my coat–HORRIBLE smell and even after a wash, it still smells like a dirty hippie. I ended up buying the roller version of “Brazilian Mango Grapefruit” as they didn’t have the spray available. Apparently Pacifica also makes lip balm, woo hoo! Next trip. Although I think it will be a while before we go back to Whole Foods. Who can afford to shop there?

blue mary janes
I received these mary janes from Modcloth as a Christmas present and wasn’t completely feeling them (they show slight toe cleavage, which I’m not into) until I discovered that I have pants that match them perfectly. Success! Of course I won’t be able to wear them until the pouring rain stops. Blerp.

Tooooday! I have a Broad Date. Work tomorrow. Still working on landing a second job (the application process is lengthier than I would have expected). Amazingly, the Boy’s semen report came back with GOOD results! Must be all those vitamins he’s been gobbling! So to sum up, every fertility test we’ve had has come back with no problems, so what’s the hold up, eh? Lord only knows. Happy Hump Day!

    1. Thanks Krista! You can join the Waiting for Liz to Get Knocked Up Club with Christopher and my mother (she was the first member ;)). The chandelier scene–yes! Impossible to photograph. I also love love loved the flapper dancing scene! That movie was so charming. My brain is pretty much obsessed with 1960’s everything.
