Boy games, a nostalgic film and spring flowers

jumprope tug of war
The Boy playing boy games with his cousin’s child last weekend.

jumprope tug of war II
He kept him entertained with various objects around the house (jump rope, stability ball, medicine ball, etc…) while his cousin and I sifted through my green clothing and a few costume boxes and my bucket ‘o’ nailpolish.

pile of greens
The loot. She’s borrowing it for a St. Patrick’s Day race this weekend, and I was up for offering her just about anything from my wardrobe, with the exception of my neon green tights. They’re my favorite, and I’m not emotionally ready for them to get ripped/stained/lost forever.

a little injury
Considering the Boy and the little guy played pretty hard during the duration of their visit, there were surprisingly few injuries. Once he pinched his tiny finger in the jump rope, and once the Boy accidentally rolled off the stability ball and fell onto him, causing an explosion of tears…

entertaining
…but a little white grape juice and toy distraction took care of that. You see? We know what to do!

parker
Recently we watched “Dazed and Confused”, a movie that I’ve seen no less than 10 times, surely, and one that I was absolutely obsessed with as a teenager. Watching it again, it’s obvious that…

…Parker steals every damn scene she’s in! Not to mention I’ve been quoting her for years: “Wipe that face off your head, betch.”

I mean, you can’t watch this scene and not relish the way she yells, “Suffer sisters!” while cackling evilly and playing with her hair and then gleefully squirting ketchup all over the freshman. It’s perfect.

rejected
As a teenager I was completely in love with Slater (of course), but now (that the illusion of stoner males as suitable lifemates has been shattered) he just makes me giggle. Matthew McConaughey is still gross. Ben Affleck is still…forgettable.

But oh that Parker Posey! Parker Love 4 Life!

Wiley
The soundtrack is excellent too. Let’s face it: this movie is pure gold! The nostalgic 90s making me nostalgic for an era I wasn’t even around for: the 70s. It’s still my favorite Linklater film…nothing but love!

beautiful tulips
Beautiful tulips, la la la leeeeee…I could gaze at them all day long. It’s almost time for our annual trip to the Fabulous Nursery for Things to Plant! I can’t wait.

  1. Total Parker fan here! Party Girl is my fave, could watch it any day. And from reading your other entries, I’m comforted to know I’m not alone in my obsession with the commentary on the “Shockumentary”…seriously.

  2. yes! “Party Girl”! I can watch that film ENDLESSLY, it just gets better and better! I know I’ve blogged about it…too lazy to find the entries right now. suffice it to say: inspiration for daaaaaays. her little colorblock outfits and platform shoes! ughhhf!

and that Shockumentary commentary, good LORD I started getting obsessed with the club kids at least a decade ago and I’m not bored yet! James St. James is a frickin’ comedy genius…have you read his posts over at “World of Wonder”? SO GOOD!

  3. Oh! I did in the past, but since forgot about World of Wonder. Thanks for the reminder! There was a point after reading Disco Bloodbath and watching the Shockumentary a few times in a row, that I probably scaled back on purpose. I guess that time is over, ha ha!
