Easter and ennui

Hey blog. How YOU doin’? Speaking of “How you doin‘?”, did I ever admit that I worked my way through all 10 seasons of the “Friends”? Shameful. No wonder I’m experiencing ennui. Wait, what came first, the “Friends” or the ennui?

No, you’re not tripping–Josh decided to dye his hair purple over the weekend. I don’t know why.

Yesterday since it was Easter and we hadn’t been to church since Easter of last year (heathens) we tried out a new church that I always pass on my way to work. It’s right next to a crossfit place and seemed fairly contemporary so why not? The pastor was a little cranky–right off the bat he informed us that he didn’t like “special” Easter services so he wasn’t going to do that. That’s fine, but at least make it interesting, then–and it wasn’t particularly. Of course, there was a fat blonde baby sitting right in front of me so my eyes were glued to her tiny starfish hands and the swirl of hair on the top of her head 95% of the time, and Josh said he was distracted by all the child noise (at our old church the children and babies were sequestered in a sound-proof lounge and it was pretty great). We left at communion time. Heigh ho!

After church we purchased a half-dozen donuts from a new donut shop and then proceeded to knock a few items off a list I recently made of fun things to do in (our section of) Seattle. The list only has 3 items (ha!), and one of those was a park and another was an arboretum and it turned out they were at the same location. It was sunny yesterday but COLD, so our trip around the arboretum was short and sweet.

These fuzzy purple flowers had no identifying placard next to them, but they sure are pretty.

These red tulips were giant. No tulip festival for us this year! My eyes ached for days afterward, last year.

Anyway who needs a tulip festival when there is magical floral goodness happening in my front and back yard every day?

On Saturday Josh abandoned me to go skiing with Mike and I took the rogs for two different walks at two different parks, because I am The Best Dog Owner In the World. And have, like, no friends and stuff.

Yesterday for Easter dinner (after I took a lovely 2 hour donut-infused nap) we picked up the Broad and drove over to Grandma Shirley’s for a delicious dinner, including lots of ham, cheesy potatoes, asparagus and, unfortunately, two different kinds of lemon dessert (the only kind of dessert Josh and I detest). We have leftovers for dinner tonight, SCORE! I love his family.

I’m having mega ennui, feel free to suggest any possible solutions in the comment section below. I even Googled “help for ennui” but in return I got a bunch of snarky responses. I know it’s not a “real” problem but it still suuuuuucks.

  1. It’s interesting to see how much farther ahead your spring is than ours in the northeast. Here, the tulips and daffodils are barely sprouting and apple trees don’t even have buds. Good luck with the ennui.

    1. It seemed a little early to me, too–my daffodil bulbs started coming up in January! It’s been warmer this year, for sure.

  2. HI, Liz! You might see if your purple plants are anemones. The mystery yellow plant from the park (earlier post) are scotch broom. As far as your rhubarb, when the red stalks get nice and long, cut off and make pie, jam, crumbles, etc. Lots of recipes on-line! It’s OK if the stalks have some green on them, too. It’s really tart, so I always mix it with other fruits like strawberry or apples. Don’t eat the green leaves, they are poisonous (altho Bob ate some as a child and didn’t die!). Be sure to cut off the flower that eventually comes up.
