Pink floral pettipants, and a book question

Feeling pink-ish.

In retrospect, I wouldn’t have paired silver glitter sunglasses with gold platform sandals, but eh, what can you do? The weather has not been cooperative for pettipants photo shoots–even if I shoot indoors, I need some natural light. Natural light, Seattle! Not natural dooooom and glooooooom.

I really like the last two pairs of pettipants I made, the florals–pink and purple.

I’m ready to go fabric shopping, but our bank account isn’t ready for me to fabric shopping. We had some unexpected costs over the last week or so–100 bucks to the vet for check-ups (they’re fine–although Maggie is starting to get a touch of arthritis in her hips, which makes me sad), 100 bucks at Lowe’s for organizing crap and stuff to plant, 87 bucks for the color run! Oof! And I thought running was a cheap hobby!

It’s spring break for the Boy’s mom, who teaches first grade, so his parents are over in Seattle this week. I have to come up with a nice (healthy) place for us to have dinner tonight.

My mother decided a couple of months ago that she wanted to start a book club, and my aunt and I joined, but so far I think I’m the only one who finished the first book, “Heart of Darkness”. Currently I’m almost through with the second book, “Wuthering Heights”. Both of these books I’d read before, but this time around I wanted to make sure I really read them (challenging for a speedreader with ADD). Holy shit, talk about heavy! So my question is:

Anyone have any recommendations for classic works of literature that won’t set off major depression?

Really! What about “Jane Eyre”? It’s been a while, I don’t remember it very well…but it has to be less depressing than “Wuthering Heights”, good Looooooord.

  1. I was going to suggest Madame Bovary but well…I wouldn’t exactly call it uplifting.

How about A Tree Grows In Brooklyn? I’ve read it at least 20 times. It has its low moments but is overall a tremendously satisfying story.

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever read “Madame Bovary”, amazingly. I’d never even heard of “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn”! I just looked it up-sounds good!

I’ll bring these up to the “book club”, thanks! 🙂

  3. Oh cripes! Skip “Jane Eyre!” She falls in love with a man who stashes his crazy ass wife in an attic and she still falls for him. Talk about depression!

What about “Little Women,” “My Antonia,” “Watership Down.”

All fantastic options and not super crazy depressing.

  4. thanks Betsy! My mother thought we should try “House of Seven Gables” next, but my aunt decided SHE gets the next pick and it’s gonna be a Twain.

it’s amazing that I never read “Watership Down”, because I was OBSESSED with “Maia”, by the same author, all through my teens. I don’t even like fantasy so much, but I looooved that book.
